Chapter 7 - Good news? No

"It is good news, yeah?" Sabrina added.

Evan's eyes widened in surprise and for a moment, he couldn't say anything. He just stared at the woman seated before him, looking so relaxed.

"I am carrying your baby, Evan. You should be jumping up in joy right now." Sabrina spoke up when Evan was taking forever to respond.

That statement seemed to bring out Evan from his trance and he let out a dry chuckle, devoid of any real humor.

"Joy? Good news? Like seriously, Sabrina? You are kidding, right?" Evan blurted out.

"Did it sound like a joke to you?" Sabrina retorted. The relaxed look she had on was slowly wearing off, making way for a frown.

"Of course, that is nothing but a joke." Evan maintained sharply and stood up.

"What are you doing, Evan? Why are you being like this?" She asked him, feeling shocked by his reaction.

"I should be asking you that question. What the hell are you doing?" He snapped at her. The latter was taken aback.

"What am I doing by getting pregnant?" She asked, chuckling in incredulity.

"Evan, please stop this and sit down. Let's talk about getting married." She added. Evan's jaw dropped at her statement and that was when a realization hit Sabrina.

"You have never thought of that, have you? Weren't we dating to get married?" She inquired, a hint of fear in her voice.

Evan sank back onto the seat he had stood up from and heaved a deep sigh.

"Sabrina, what are you saying? I am a married man. How can I get married to you when I am still married to one woman--- and not just any woman but Alexis. You know what she can do." Evan said, rubbing a hand across his forehead in exasperation.

"That is why I am telling you now to get a divorce. Then you come get married to me." Sabrina retorted.

"I can't divorce her now. Not when I don't have anything to my name. If I leave her, I will be empty. Will that be better for you? You know the plans, Sabrina. Come on, you can't be pregnant now." Evan maintained firmly.

"I don't understand you, Evan." She stated, sighing heavily.

"You understand what I mean. You can't be pregnant." He insisted, staring at her in the eyes.

After a second, Evan looked down and stood up.

"You can't be pregnant now." He repeated again and started to walk away.

Sabrina quickly stood and spoke up.

"I am going to tell her. I have scheduled a meeting with her and she has agreed to meet with me." She informed him. That stopped Evan from walking further.

"What did you just say?" Evan almost had whiplash turning to look at Sabrina.

Meanwhile, at the mansion; Alexis had gone back to the house and was in the living room, waiting impatiently for Evan.

"What should I prepare for you, ma'am?" Mia, the in-house chef asked Alexis, politely.

"Just get me a cup of coffee, Mia." She replied the chef, flatly. The latter nodded and quickly went back to the kitchen. In no time, she had reappeared with a cup of coffee which she placed on the table before Alexis.

"Thanks, Mia." Alexis appreciated her and the chef went back to the kitchen.

As Alexis was sipping the coffee, Evan walked into the room. He had seen Alexis' car parked outside and he looked apologetic.

"I quickly went out to get something." Evan muttered immediately he laid eyes on her.

"Welcome back, darling. I am glad you are back now... I am so..." He was going to start pleading but Alexis interrupted him.

"When are you moving out of this place?" Alexis asked finally speaking up. Her voice was stern and firm.

The question took Evan unaware and he bit a part of his lower lip in anxiety.

"Lexi darling, please let us talk about what is happening. Trust me, going our separate ways is not the solution." He said, approaching her slowly.

Before he could get closer to her, Alexis raised a hand to stop him in warning. He stopped.

"I need you to move out of my house as soon as possible. Preferably tonight or at worst, tomorrow. My lawyer has served you the divorce papers, so why are you not signing it? Do we need to go to court?" She asked him, narrowing her eyes on him.

That made something in Evan snapped and he clenched his fists.

"You can't treat me like this because of one silly mistake which I am even willing to correct." He yelled out, sounding frustrated. Alexis raised an eyebrow then let out a chuckle.

"Oh, really? You cheating on me with another woman and buying her things with my money is a mistake? Okay, let's say that is a mistake, how about what you have been doing in my company? You think I wouldn't know?" Alexis asked, her voice rising.

She dropped the cup of coffee and glared at him.

"She has found out? No, this is not good." Evan thought to himself and as fast as it had come, his frown disappeared, his face falling in remorse.

"Lexi, you have to let me explain. I don't know what you have heard but trust me, all I have been doing is for the betterment of the company. I won't ever do anything to put the company in harm's way." He said, his voice low and persuading.

"What I have heard or what I have seen?" Alexis retorted then grabbed the parcel of documents that was beside her on the seat. She opened it and threw the documents on his face.

Evan's eyes caught a part of the content of the documents and he immediately knew what they were. He stood frozen to a spot, his brain thinking of the lies to tell to vindicate himself.

"Why is my company going into bankruptcy, Evan? What the hell have you been doing?" Alexis yelled, her voice breaking.
