Chapter 120
Another vampire speculated, "Perhaps the Light Devourer has granted us the ability to go invincible," but their leader slapped him on the head. "Dumbass, these cattle don't even see us as a threat," he snapped, irritating the others. They looked at Gray and Rachel, who were still arguing. One vampire, unable to hold back his hunger, growled, "Sir, I can't hold on! I want their juicy blood—it smells divine." Before he could attack, two white lights appeared, transforming into red birds that sliced through his shoulder. Staggering, the vampire was struck by a whip that instantly decapitated him.
The wielder of the whip was a young man with a lean, athletic build, wearing a blue tunic with white accents, a brown leather belt, and boots. Beside him stood a young woman with fair skin and long blonde hair styled with a ribbon. She wore a light-colored dress adorned with frills and a corset, reflecting the era's fashion. Her glowing fingers summoned the birds. Observing Gray and Rachel, she remarked, "Are they arguing in the middle of a vampire attack?" The young man replied, "Huh, that's a first," as the vampires launched their assault.
The duo sprang into action. The man used his whip with precision, striking vampires mid-air and decapitating them. The woman conjured glowing sigils, summoning supernatural creatures that ripped through their enemies. Amid the chaos, Gray and Rachel continued arguing, oblivious to the battle. Three vampires remained when one grabbed Gray by the neck and sneered, "If you move an inch, I'll kill this snow-haired fucker!" Gray snapped out of his argument, shouting, "GET YOUR FUCKING HANDS OFF ME!" In an instant, the vampire was reduced to fine dust, shocking everyone, including the last two vampires.
Gray conjured two spheres of arcane energy, obliterating the remaining vampires. The young woman gasped, "He's a sorcerer!" Gray turned to the duo and demanded, "Who the fuck are you?" Rachel recognized them and exclaimed, "Richter Belmont and Maria Renard?" The two were taken aback, and Gray groaned, "Of course you know them. Who are they?" Richter, now wary, asked, "Yeah, I'd like to know too." Rachel calmly explained, "We're in 1792 France during the French Revolution in Machecoul." Maria, surprised, asked, "Are you part of the revolution? I've never seen you before." Gray sighed and quipped, "Yeah, she's a big revolutionary." He leaned toward Rachel and whispered, "Is there a big threat here I should worry about?"
"There is only one entity that we have to watch out for, and that is Erzsébet Báthory, who is a vampire goddess, but she is nowhere near my fathers level," which assured Gray as he stretched his limbs while the adoptive siblings looked at them weirdly. "So you are like vampire hunters or something?" Richtor asked, and Gray replied, "No, boy, I am an alchemist, and she is a superhero, which is just revolution-ish." He explained as Rachel looked at him, "Is that how you are going to refer to me from now on?" she asked, and Gray replied, "Well, that is your occupation, isn't it?" he said before he smiled. Rachel corrected him after she saw how Richtor reacted to Gray calling him "boy." "Also, he is older than you," she said, making Gray frown. His attention was quickly captured by Mariah, who had just sent her birds back through a golden circle. He smiled, "Is that summoning magic?" he asked as he looked at her, standing very close—so close, in fact, that they were inches away from each other. This shocked Richtor and Mariah, and Mariah took a couple of steps back while Richtor stepped in front of her.
That was when Rachel pulled Gray back as she explained, "It is summoning magic, which allows her to call upon various supernatural creatures such as the four holy beasts—Suzaku, which is the firebird; Genbu, which is a turtle; Seiryuu, which is a dragon; and Byakko, which is a white tiger." This explanation shocked Mariah to no end as she said, "How did you know?" making Gray chuckle as he proudly said, "Isn't she amazing?" Before he suddenly pondered and mumbled loudly, "Then I can probably create a potion that would allow me to do the same." This earned a scoff from Mariah as Gray looked at her, "Is that a challenge?" he asked. Mariah replied confidently, "Yes, there is no potion that would allow you to do that." Richtor nudged her on the shoulder as Rachel said, "Please don't encourage him. He will literally spend endless hours trying, and he will succeed." Gray said, "Don't you know your man well?" making Rachel sigh.
Gray asked, "Then how about this: Why don't you give me some of their blood? I will grant you a ticket," he said, making Mariah curious as she asked, "A ticket for what?" Gray smiled as he said, "It's basically an anything card. If you want the revolution to be done in hours, I will do it. If you want to kill an unkillable enemy, I will kill them. And if you want to turn into a pig with wings, then I will do it." This made Mariah ponder as Richtor said, "You are not considering it, are you?" Mariah replied as she looked at Gray up and down while smiling, "I don't know; this ticket is tempting." Richtor immediately said, "Yeah, it's a ticket to hell. Look at her! My instinct is telling me to avoid her—she is dangerous." Rachel was looking at Mariah like she wanted to kill her.
-scene change-
In a courtyard outside of a house, Gray could be seen cooking on a grill as Rachel sat on a chair, watching him and waiting, while Richter, Mariah, and her mother, who looked exactly like her but more mature, observed. Her mother, who aged like fine wine and carried an air of elegance, spoke, "Are you sure you don't want any help? I can—" "Ma'am, please, you have to taste my cooking. It's divine," Gray interrupted with a smile. "Yeah, let him cook since he wants you to taste HIS divine cooking," Rachel added, shifting her position. Gray sighed and turned to her. "Why are you like this? We're having company. Fix your attitude. I thought you got your emotions under control," he said, throwing her a big juicy apple. Rachel took a bite, only to spit it out, complaining, "Apples are disgusting. Why are you giving me apples?"
Gray snapped for a moment, looking at her. "For fuck's sake, you're three years older than me. Fix your attitude before I put you in a timeout. What is wrong with you? Should I put you in a timeout in Pangea?" he said before resuming his grilling. Rachel took a deep breath, smiled at the trio awkwardly sitting there, and said, "Sorry about that. I'm on my ah—" She paused, but Tera, Mariah's mother, interjected, "Oh, do you need som—" "No, it's fine. I've got it covered," Rachel interrupted. Meanwhile, this entire exchange went unnoticed by Richter, and Gray didn't even register it as he focused on cooking. Tera turned to Gray and asked, "So, where are you from?" Gray, flipping a steak, replied, "Oh, far, far away from here. Quite unrecognizable, actually. We're sightseeing since it's been a while since we went out on a trip." Richter, a little suspicious, asked, "So, you just go around, sightseeing?" Gray replied with a grin, "Well, it's the most fun you can have with your clothes on."
