The morning sun poured through the windows of their cozy little house, casting golden light over everything inside. Grandpa stretched with a yawn, rubbing his eyes as he made his way to Avoi's room. He grinned, already knowing how excited the boy would be today.
"Wake up, little warrior," Grandpa called softly, shaking Avoi's shoulder. "Today's the big day!"
Avoi's eyes popped open instantly, full of excitement. He sat up, his messy hair sticking out in every direction, and grinned ear to ear.
"School day!" he shouted, hopping out of bed with so much energy it startled Grandpa.
Avoi ran to the kitchen, his small feet thumping against the floorboards. There, Saria stood at the stove, humming softly while flipping pancakes. The smell of syrup and butter filled the air.
"Good morning, Avoi," she greeted him with a bright smile as he climbed into his seat.
"Morning, Mom!" Avoi said eagerly. "I can't wait to go to school!"
Saria laughed. "I know, I know. But first, breakfast." She set a plate of pancakes in front of him, along with some fruit and milk. Avoi dug in, barely able to sit still.
While he ate, Saria placed his new backpack on the table. It was bright red, with a cool flame design—Avoi's favorite.
"I packed everything you'll need," she said, unzipping the bag to show him. "Notebooks, pencils, a water bottle, and even some snacks."
"Thanks, Mom!" Avoi grinned.
Saria sat down beside him, brushing a few crumbs off his cheek. "Now listen," she said gently. "It's important to be kind and make friends. If anyone needs help, be the first to offer it. And…" she paused, looking serious. "No magic, okay? You only use that when you really need to."
Avoi nodded quickly. "Got it, Mom. I'll be the best kid ever!"
Once breakfast was done, Saria grabbed her keys and took Avoi's hand. At the front door, Grandpa waved to them, his smile warm and proud.
"Have fun, little warrior!" Grandpa called. "We'll be here when you get back."
Avoi waved back enthusiastically. "Bye, Grandpa!" Then, holding tight to his mom's hand, he skipped happily down the steps toward the car.
After a short drive, they arrived at the school—a large, modern building made of sleek glass and brick. It had wide windows, tall doors, and a colorful playground outside, buzzing with excited children.
Avoi's heart raced as he looked at all the kids running around. Some were playing games, while others were laughing and chatting near the entrance. He could already imagine all the friends he would make.
As they reached the school gate, Saria crouched down to his level and held him by the shoulders. Her green eyes were warm but serious.
"Okay, Avoi," she said. "This is your big day. Be kind, be brave, and listen to your teacher. If something feels wrong, trust yourself. Got it?"
Avoi nodded eagerly. "I got it, Mom!"
Saria smiled and kissed his forehead. "I'm proud of you, sweetheart. Have fun today."
"I will!" Avoi promised, bouncing on his toes.
"Alright then," Saria said, standing up. "Go on inside. I'll see you later!"
With one last wave, Avoi turned and ran through the gates, full of excitement.
Inside the building, everything was bright and lively. The hallways were filled with kids carrying backpacks, talking, and laughing. Lockers lined the walls, and colorful posters about reading and kindness hung everywhere.
Avoi looked around, trying to find his classroom. His heart pounded with excitement as he followed the signs, finally spotting his room number: 1B.
He pushed open the door and peeked inside. The classroom was big and colorful, with rows of desks and bright decorations on the walls. Some kids were already seated, while others stood around, chatting.
Avoi scanned the room, looking for an empty desk. He saw one near the back, just behind a girl with shiny black hair tied into a neat ponytail.
He walked over and plopped into the seat, his heart racing with excitement. As he settled in, the girl in front of him turned around and smiled.
"Hi!" she said cheerfully. "I'm Lila. What's your name?"
"I'm Avoi!" he answered, grinning back at her.
"Nice to meet you, Avoi." Lila's smile was warm, and Avoi instantly felt comfortable. He had already made his first friend.
Before long, the door opened, and a tall man with glasses walked in. The chatter died down as the teacher clapped his hands.
"Good morning, class!" he greeted with a friendly smile. "I'm Mr. Teren, and I'll be your teacher this year. I'm excited to get to know each of you."
The kids responded with a cheerful "Good morning, Mr. Teren!"
"Let's start with introductions," Mr. Teren said. "When I call your name, stand up and tell us a little about yourself."
One by one, the children introduced themselves. When it was Avoi's turn, he stood confidently.
"Hi! My name is Avoi. I like fighting, magic tricks, and fishing."
Some kids giggled, while others whispered among themselves. Lila gave him a thumbs-up, and Avoi sat down, feeling proud.
As the lesson began, Avoi noticed a chubby boy sitting a few desks away. The boy had a mischievous grin and kept glancing at Mr. Teren when he wasn't looking.
Something's up, Avoi thought, narrowing his eyes.
Sure enough, the boy carefully reached into his desk and pulled out a small plastic bottle filled with glitter. He unscrewed the cap slowly, glancing around to make sure no one was watching.
Avoi realized the boy was planning to dump the glitter all over the teacher's desk—a prank that would surely get the whole class in trouble.
Thinking fast, Avoi whispered a small spell under his breath. He flicked his fingers toward the bottle just as the boy tried to tip it over. The bottle's lid snapped shut with a soft click, as if by magic.
The boy frowned, confused. He tugged at the lid, but it wouldn't budge. Frustrated, he pushed harder—and the entire bottle slipped out of his hand, landing with a loud clatter on the floor.
Mr. Teren turned around immediately, his eyes narrowing. "What's going on over there?"
The chubby boy froze, looking guilty. The whole class burst into giggles.
"Is that glitter?" Mr. Teren asked, crossing his arms. "What were you planning to do with that?"
The boy stammered, trying to come up with an excuse, but it was no use.
"Straight to the principal's office," Mr. Teren said firmly, pointing to the door.
As the boy shuffled out of the room, Avoi leaned back in his chair, satisfied. He had stopped the prank without anyone knowing, and now the class could go on without any trouble.
Lila glanced back at him, grinning. "That was cool," she whispered.
Avoi just smiled and gave her a wink.
His first day of school was off to a great start—and it was only the beginning.
