Chapter 83: The Human Body—Isn't It Fascinating?
"An unfamiliar ceiling."
The next morning, Shunsuke woke up and stared at the pink ceiling, playing along with that timeless cliché.
Due to Shunsuke's movements, Runa's eyelids twitched. She instinctively wanted to roll over and go back to sleep—unlike the monster that was Shunsuke, she was still utterly exhausted.
"Ouch!"
In the next moment, Runa was fully awake, her thighs twitching in protest.
Even though she was a year older than Shunsuke, when it came to physique, Shunsuke was practically a half-dragon at this point.
Shunsuke looked at her apologetically. "It's morning. This is normal. Not my fault."
"Are you a monster? After all that, why is it still like this?"
Runa hugged her slightly swollen belly, feeling as if Shunsuke was deliberately blocking the way out. She was on the verge of breaking down.
"What if this ends in a disaster!"
"Then we'll... deal with it... Just kidding. With our abilities, are we really worried about adding one more mouth to feed?"
Shunsuke realized he might have gone overboard, but considering this was something he had staked his life on to achieve, maybe it wasn't entirely unjustified?
With that thought, he suddenly noticed half the day had already passed.
Jolted back to reality, he quickly typed out a message to Shizuka, requesting a day off, and then resumed his phased blitz without hesitation.
"ORA ORA ORA ORA!"
"Wait... no, stop... I can't anymore... help... I'm dying... I'm dying... I'm dying..."
After repeating "no" 56 times, "help" 77 times, and "I can't anymore" 32 times, along with countless cries of "I'm dying," Runa felt as though she was about to fall apart like a worn-out doll. With her tongue sticking out, she lay on the bed in a daze.
Shunsuke pried her eyes open to examine them carefully, but found no heart-shaped pupils. "Disappointing," he muttered.
"You're not just going to toss me aside now, are you?" Runa whimpered weakly.
After recalling the works of author Kazuto, Runa mumbled something nonsensical.
"Don't worry, don't worry, it won't happen," Shunsuke reassured her as he kept a bit of distance. Gently stroking the gradually closing wound, he remarked, "See? The human body—fascinating, isn't it?"
Runa didn't hear the last part. Exhausted but reassured by Shunsuke's words, she fell into a deep sleep with a faint smile.
"Did I... maybe go a little overboard?"
In the bathroom, using Golden Experience, Shunsuke crafted two new kidneys and replaced his own, reflecting on his actions briefly.
Still, he concluded that even if given a chance to redo everything, he would make the same choice.
In the chaotic environment of Hyakkaou Academy, this method of communication proved far more efficient and direct.
"Yeah, so I'm not wrong. Time to keep pushing forward."
With his body fully restored, Shunsuke stretched lazily, renewed in his resolve.
Never give up!
...
"Mai, Mai, what are you doing at my doorstep?"
When Shunsuke returned home that evening, he was greeted by an unexpected visitor at his front door.
Also, sitting like that isn't very safe—you're giving me a clear view of your underwear.
"What kind of nickname is that? Call me Senpai."
Mai Sakurajima stood up, dusting off her skirt. As she did, her brows furrowed slightly, and her nose twitched as if picking up on something unusual.
There was a strange smell lingering in the air.
However, since she wasn't familiar with such things, Mai quickly dismissed the thought and paid it no mind.
"So, Mai-senpai, may I ask how you found out my address? Depending on your answer, I might have to treat you like a stalker."
Although they had exchanged contact information and he'd gotten her home address, Shunsuke hadn't shared his own address.
There was no particular reason for this; he simply hadn't found the right moment to bring it up.
Otherwise, it might seem like he was implying something he didn't intend.
Mai's expression froze for a moment. How was she supposed to explain this?
"Never mind, come in and have some tea. There's no one home right now," Shunsuke said tactfully, not pressing her further as he opened the door and gestured for her to enter.
Mai stood hesitantly at the entrance.
While she felt a strange sense of trust toward Shunsuke—enough to set aside her pride as a senpai and take the initiative to seek him out—standing here now, she couldn't help but have a whirlwind of strange thoughts.
Especially as the peculiar smell seemed to quicken her blood flow and make her heartbeat race. Certain scenarios from the works of "reputable" teachers flashed through her mind.
Now, with some faint guesses about the source of the smell, Mai couldn't shake the feeling that this was heading in an awkward direction.
Well, even beautiful girls have their private moments—just like how they also pass gas.
In fact, due to differences in physiology, someone like Marin Kitagawa might surprise the average innocent boy with how often it happens.
And as for someone like Mrs. Izumi, it would be even more exaggerated.
Don't ask how I know this.
"What's the matter? Are you scared?" Shunsuke asked with a teasing smirk.
"Of course not! If I were scared, I wouldn't have come," Mai replied, still putting up a strong front. Determined not to let her junior look down on her, she strode into the house with a confident air.
Click.
The sound of the door locking behind her froze Mai in her tracks.
Her face drained of color as she turned around, staring at the tightly shut door and Shunsuke with a look of despair.
Her steps faltered as she backed away, only to trip over the step at the entryway.
Even as she fell, she scrambled backward on the floor in a panic.
"..."
Did I... maybe go too far this time?
For the second time that day, Shunsuke reflected on his actions.
Unlike Runa, who was more like a human-shaped flyer or a one-time running buddy, his feelings toward Mai Sakurajima were more serious.
After all, he had already jokingly called her his wife once before.
"But still, your behavior makes me really sad. Am I that scary?"
Shunsuke grumbled indignantly as he walked in and immediately shrugged off his wrinkled suit jacket, which was mysteriously damp with some unidentified liquid.
"You... I trusted the wrong person!"
Mai Sakurajima grabbed a shoe from the entryway and hurled it at him.
Shunsuke summoned Star Platinum, effortlessly catching each flying shoe with precision.
From Mai's perspective, however, it looked like her every attempt at resistance was being easily thwarted by some sort of telekinesis.
In that moment, Mai cursed her "superpower"—the ability to erase her presence. I'm not even a guy! What use is this ability? It doesn't help me at all, and it only causes inconvenience!
"Mai, Mai, that's enough, isn't it? You've been at it for a while now. If you keep going, you're really going to cause an accident."
Shunsuke sighed as he watched Mai exhaust all the shoes in the entryway, then move on to taking off her own shoes, and even consider ripping off her black tights to throw at him. He was at his wit's end.
"I was just trying to tease you. I didn't expect you to react so strongly... I'm sorry. I should have been more considerate of your feelings."
Knowing when to apologize, Shunsuke bowed deeply at a perfect ninety-degree angle to show his sincerity.
