Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Recruiting the Flower Fairy

"Don't be afraid, the Star Worms and Lantern Fireflies are my companions, they won't harm you. Are you injured?"

Char did his best to appear gentle and amiable, and since he was skilled at communication and inhabiting a body that was young and attractive with delicate features, he looked like a nice person at first glance.

Therefore, it didn't take long for the Flower Fairy Betty to choose to trust him.

"Yes! That big monster was so scary, it chased after Betty relentlessly and even bit Betty's wings, bad monster!"

"Your name is Betty?"

"Yes, yes, what's your name?"

As the Flower Fairy replied, she gently flared her nostrils, sniffing Char carefully, and her face revealed a completely relaxed expression.

"You really are a Half-Elf."

Char nodded, then answered her previous question.

"My name is Char, Char Rain Season, because I was born during the rainy season. Betty, this place is too dangerous for you, how about you come to my place to heal? I have just the right potions for treatment."

To close the distance with Betty, Char made up a story casually, though he felt his guess might not be far off—it was very likely that 'Char Rain Season' indeed referred to being born in the rainy season.

"Thank you so much, Mr. Char."

Betty stood up, gave Char a curtsy like a lady, and then she noticed the dirt on her hands and feet. Her face immediately flushed red as she hid her hands behind her back and entangled her feet together, trying to cover the mud stains.

Char couldn't help but smile inwardly, speaking while reaching out his hand to Betty.

"Do you need to get cleaned up first, Miss Betty?"

Betty's face lit up with appreciation, once again she gently lifted her pink petal skirt and bent her knees in a lady-like curtsy.

"You are truly a gentleman who delights in helping others, Mr. Char."

With that, she carefully stepped onto Char's palm, holding her skirt.

'This Little Flower Fairy must have read too many knight novels, right?'

Watching Betty's somewhat contrived and earnest imitation of an aristocratic lady, Char found it quite amusing internally.

However, outwardly, he showed none of this reaction; not only did he keep his amusement to himself, but he also played along by referring to her as 'Miss Betty'.

The Star Worm emitted chime-like tinkling sounds, swirling in circles around Betty as if to welcome a new comrade.

Of course, so far, Betty wasn't considered their new comrade.

But Char did hope that Betty would join them, because her "Natural Flourishing" and "Flowers in Full Bloom" skills were incredibly useful.

"Natural Flourishing" could promote rapid growth in plants, while "Flowers in Full Bloom" could make plants bloom instantly. In essence, a Flower Fairy was a natural-born gardener and horticulturist.

Wasn't he just struggling to grow beets and tomatoes?

With Betty here, that problem could be resolved swiftly.

Though growing flowers and vegetables were different, the essence was similar, and Betty's "Flowers in Full Bloom" and "Natural Flourishing" could equally affect beet seeds and tomato seeds.

Indeed, through Prayer, he could also wish for Magic Pets skilled at farming and growing crops.

After all, in "Mobile Castle·Fantasy Forest," Magic Pets serve as the player's only helpers, taking on a variety of tasks including farming, which was a crucial aspect of the game.

If a player did not have Magic Pets capable of assisting with farming, they couldn't get by in the game.

However, who knew when he could wish for Magic Pets skilled in farming?

What's more, whether these Magic Pets were still in the Wish Pond was uncertain!

After all, this was no longer the pure Mobile Castle game world.

Therefore, to be able to enjoy fresh and tasty vegetables soon, Char had to recruit the Flower Fairy to his side.

Moreover, besides this function, the Flower Fairy has other uses too.

Char looked at Betty who was sitting beside his palm, propping her chin with her hands, her feet dangling and gently swaying as she looked into the distance.

The Flower Fairy was pint-sized, no taller than seven or eight centimeters, barely larger than a phoenix butterfly, but she had all the features a person should have, even her fingers were delicate and distinct.

Char wanted Betty to join this big family not only because she was good at promoting plant growth and could help him plant vegetables and grains, but also because she was so far the only intelligent being with whom he could communicate.

He was lonely!

If he couldn't find someone to talk to soon, there was a risk that not only would his mental health suffer, but his ability to communicate would also start to deteriorate.

Furthermore, although the Flower Fairy lived in seclusion, hiding in the depths of the forest, when it came to understanding this world, she was surely far more knowledgeable than him, a transmigrator who knew nothing.

Betty could very well become his teacher in common knowledge.

Starlight fell, tinting Betty's body that already had a fairy-like glow with a warm hue.

Betty turned her head and saw the Star Worm, which like a star, was slowly descending beside her.

She had a good impression of the Star Worm.

As a Flower Fairy, Betty could vaguely sense the true emotions of other creatures, discerning whether they held goodwill or malice toward her.

The Star Worm had always harbored goodwill towards her.

Additionally, Flower Fairies love splendor, forests, sunrises, waterfalls, and all things beautiful; they feel an extra affinity and tolerance for pretty things, and the Star Worm was undoubtedly pretty.

Therefore, Betty was very affectionate towards the Star Worm.

"Hello there, Star Worm."

She greeted the Star Worm politely but caught a glimpse of a bit of red and a flicker of light. Her face immediately fell, and she let out a cold huff, turning her head away indifferently.

The Lantern Firefly was also quite striking in appearance, beautiful, handsome, and austere. In a game, it would become a popular pet just based on looks alone.

But who asked the Lantern Firefly to offend Betty?

Naturally, she would not show a good face.

Char took the initiative to become the peacemaker.

"Miss Betty, the Lantern Firefly didn't mean to hurt you just now, it just wanted to stop your action."

But the grudge-bearing little fairy hardly seemed likely to let go of her grievance merely because of Char's explanation; she acted as if she hadn't heard and continued her conversation with the Star Worm.

Just as Char was about to say something else, suddenly, the flapping sound of the Lantern Firefly's wings abruptly intensified, the True Red Thorn was unsheathed, and the Red Glow in the lantern instantly grew larger…

"What are you doing! You rude creature!"

Betty screamed in fright.

Then she saw a flash of red as the Lantern Firefly flew off into the distance, quickly disappearing from their line of sight.

Char's expression was not a good one.

The action of the Lantern Firefly indicated that some presence capable of posing a great threat to them was approaching—and urgently so, as the Lantern Firefly had not even had time to signal an explanation to him before darting off.

And an enemy that could pose a threat to the Lantern Firefly was undoubtedly very dangerous and lethal to him personally.

So, without hesitation, Char swiftly climbed the tallest and sturdiest tree nearby, seeking a high vantage point.

In the midst of climbing, Betty, who had realized she had misunderstood the Lantern Firefly, furrowed her brow and made a disgusted sound.

"So stinky, so stinky! It's those ugly brutes!"

"What ugly brutes?"

"Bear Goblins!"
