Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 The Deer Hunter, Brown-tailed Roe Deer

When Char used up the last three strands of Praying Power, he received two tops and a pair of pants.

'Finally, some clothes to change into.'

Looking at the simple yet clean clothes and pants in front of him, Char's expression was joyful.

He quickly took a bath and changed into the clean clothes, feeling refreshingly clearheaded and in better condition than ever before.

Then he began looking for suitable wood to hollow out and use as planters for vegetables, and following the instructions provided by the system, he filled them with soil and sprinkled in the seeds.

An hour later, looking at the vegetable pots placed on the plank in front of the carriage door, Char felt quite a sense of achievement.

He hoped that these seeds would grow quickly and produce beets and tomatoes.

Next, he looked at the Centaurea seeds and Lily of the Valley Seeds that he had prayed for and decided to hollow out a few more pots to plant them.

Although these plants were inedible, having some flowers and greenery in life could somewhat cultivate one's disposition, couldn't they?

More importantly, according to his experience, as long as these plants survived, they could also yield Praying Power. Even if the amount wouldn't be large, it was still Praying Power, wasn't it?

Why not do it, then?

Char continued to look for suitable wood.

Finding the right wood and then carving it out was not only skilled work but also physically demanding, and neither the Lantern Firefly nor the Star Worm could be of much help.

The Star Worm only knew how to collide, and the Lantern Firefly did have impressive swordsmanship, but its sword was too short and too thin. It was suitable for piercing prey but not for hollowing out wood.

Therefore, it was only Char who could put his body to work.

Luckily, this body was young enough and strong enough.

If it had been his body from his previous life that had hardly engaged in any physical labor, he probably would have been suffering from backaches, breathlessness, and complete exhaustion after such work.

But now, at most, he felt only a bit tired, and he wasn't even sweating much.

After quickly finishing the work, Char started practicing with the bow and arrow.

In the dreamlike Florence Forest, birds chirped and tweeted.

Being in it was like being in a circular concert hall, with the listener in the very center, while nature's performers surrounded them from all directions, both near and far, at various elevations.

The performers were not only various birds but also different kinds of chirping insects, frogs, and even the babbling of streams, the woodpeckers pecking away...

Nature's singers raised their voices in the early morning forest, playing a concerto that was fresh, natural, and ethereally melodious.

The morning sunlight filtered through the forest, tinting the amber green woods with warmth, and the dancing notes touched the sunlight, making this translucent green amber vibrate with the tremble of life.

"Crack"—

the sound of a tree branch breaking.

This noise startled the audience, the bushes shook, rustling softly, and a small deer-like animal flashed a glance, appearing amidst the bushes and then quickly disappearing into the depths of the forest.

It was a brown-tailed roe deer.

Beyond the brown-tailed roe deer, there were even more alarmed audience members.

These wary little creatures, the vast majority of whom never appeared in sight, had already fled the area.

A flash of red flitted through the woods, startling against the emerald green backdrop.

This crimson figure was none other than the Lantern Firefly.

The Lantern Firefly was chasing after the brown-tailed roe deer, followed closely by Char, who held an oak bow in his left hand and an arrow in his right, with a slight look of annoyance on his face.

Gazing at the brown-tailed roe deer that had escaped in an unknown direction, the regret, disappointment, and annoyance in Char's eyes flashed by in an instant.

He had spotted the brown-tailed roe deer hiding in the bushes early in the morning.

In his previous life, he had been severely nearsighted, but in this life, not only was he no longer nearsighted, but thanks to the half-Elf bloodline in him, his vision was amazingly sharp, easily spotting prey hidden in the woods.

Speaking of which, although this unexpected transmigration had landed him in a bit of an awkward situation, having to survive in the wilderness of this dangerous fantasy world, upon careful consideration, there were advantages too.

For example, he had gained a younger, healthier body with more potential.

Unfortunately, although his eyesight was exceptionally good, his physical abilities still fell short, and he inadvertently startled his prey.

Char rapidly made his way through the forest, chasing in the direction of the Lantern Firefly. Star Worms surrounded him, fluttering up and down, closely following him, not chasing the prey with the Lantern Firefly.

Despite having the "strong" bodyguard Lantern Firefly, Char's own ability to defend himself was still too weak, only a bit better than bugs and birds, which placed him at the bottom of the food chain in the Florence Forest, even lower than the brown-tailed roe deer currently being hunted by the Lantern Firefly.

After all, the brown-tailed roe deer might not have much combat ability, but at least it could run fast, no?

So when going out hunting, the two Magic Pets would usually not leave Char's side, and even if the Lantern Firefly needed to briefly leave to pursue prey, the Star Worm would surely stay to protect him.

After a while, the sound of terror and despair came from the distance.

Char quickened his steps, running swiftly through the uneven, obstacle-filled forest, not minding the red marks that branches left on his arms.

By the time he arrived, the brown-tailed roe deer was already dead, appearing unscathed as if it were sleeping, and only on closer inspection could one see several small, charred puncture wounds.

Clearly, these were wounds caused by "True Red Thorn."

Char was very happy.

The brown-tailed roe deer was just an ordinary animal, not a Demon Beast with Magic Ability, and it had no resistance to the "True Red Thorn." However, this didn't mean the Lantern Firefly could easily hunt down a brown-tailed roe deer.

Because the brown-tailed roe deer could run very fast in the forest, the Lantern Firefly might not always catch up.

"Well done, Lantern Firefly! You're amazing!"

He did not skimp on praise, loudly commending the Lantern Firefly.

The Lantern Firefly, with its lantern lit, retracted its Stabbing Sword, standing quietly on a nearby branch, looking cool and unmoved.

But the slightly shaking antennae on its head "betrayed" it, letting the inner satisfaction and excitement overflow through the antennae.

"Alright, let's go back!"

Char picked up the brown-tailed roe deer and called out.

He was in a very good mood.

The meat of the brown-tailed roe deer was much more abundant than that of the white cotton rabbit. Catching a brown-tailed roe deer meant that he had not only completed today's hunting task but also had enough food for the next two days.

Not only that, but the fur of the brown-tailed roe deer could also be used to make clothes.

Even though clothes could be obtained through Prayer, directly praying with Praying Power only yielded the simplest and thinnest of clothes, sufficient for the current temperature, but the Florence Forest would not always remain at this temperature.

According to his sense of touch, the days were getting colder, and it wouldn't be long before autumn and winter arrived. What then? Still wearing such thin clothes?

But if he used the available materials for Prayer, he could get better clothing.

The fur of this brown-tailed roe deer was enough for him to pray for a nice fur coat. Next, he planned to catch more white cotton rabbits, save up more rabbit skins, and pray for another coat.

This was also thanks to the Lantern Firefly's attack style not being that bloody and destructive kind, causing little damage to the fur; otherwise, preserving a complete roe deer hide would be rather difficult.

Char took another look at the panel.

The task bar now showed that one task had been completed, rewarding two wisps of Praying Power.
