The next day dawned, and Tobe was woken by Jun, telling him they needed to get some new equipment and that the girls were already waiting outside. Tobe got dressed, headed outside the tavern and inn, and greeted the two waiting girls. They desperately needed new gear, so they decided to visit the village's Weapon Blacksmith Shop. Upon arrival, they checked the shop's stock, which included weapons ranging from swords to spears, staves, maces, axes, and bows and arrows. Miri found her pick, buying an iron sword and a durable wooden shield with iron plating. By obtaining a shield, she learned the skills "Block" and "Bash." Jun purchased a bronze dagger, along with a rope and hook. With these items, he learned the skills "Slice" and "Pull." Tobe found brown fingerless gloves that helped control mana output, so he bought two pairs—one for himself and one for Yuka.
After buying their new equipment, they planned to head to the Guild to take on a new quest. However, Jun decided to temporarily leave the party, wanting to explore Seturia, gain more experience, and gather materials to craft new tools and weapons. So, the three remaining members decided to proceed with the quest alone. They went to the Guild to ask for a map and where the Wind Wyverns were most likely to be found. The receptionist gave them a map, pointed out the area where Wind Wyverns were known to roam, and wished them luck. The three thanked him and set off toward the location, which was near a cliff ledge.
Tobe checked the area and looked over the cliff, searching for a Wind Wyvern, but found none in sight. Still standing near the cliff edge, he turned to face Miri and Yuka, yelling that there was nothing there and accusing the receptionist of lying. Suddenly, a Wind Wyvern flew up from beneath the cliff, not even catching Tobe's attention. Miri took a fighting stance, and Yuka summoned Blubby, ordering it to take its turret form. Tobe, still oblivious, asked why are they in a fighting position, then the thought finally crossed him and he turned around and was shocked to see the winged beast right behind him. Slowly and cautiously, he backed away toward Miri and Yuka, readying himself for the fight against the winged white beast.
The battle between the three young heroes and the Wind Wyvern began!
The Wind Wyvern landed and roared, its piercing gaze and bared fangs challenging the trio. But they didn't falter. Miri devised a plan: she would take agro, Tobe would flank the beast, and Yuka would provide cover fire. They all agreed and set the plan in motion. Miri used "Strength Up," then rushed forward with her blade in hand and shield raised. Tobe ran to flank the wyvern, while Yuka moved back and commanded Blubby to shoot "Slime Shots" at the wyvern from a distance, inflicting low damage but slowing it down.
The Wind Wyvern attacked Miri with multiple "Wind Blasts" from its mouth, but she blocked them, pushing through with her shield. Upon reaching the wyvern, Miri bashed its face, stunning it. She followed up with alternating slashes and bashes, dealing solid damage. The wyvern roared and swiped at Miri with "Claw Strike," which she narrowly dodged. Blubby's slime shots irritated the wyvern, drawing its attention. It aimed a charged "Wind Cannon" at Yuka and Blubby, but Tobe arrived just in time, using Mana String to propel himself forward. He struck the wyvern's face with Explosion Impact, interrupting the attack and knocking the wyvern onto its side. Miri learned the skill "Pierce" during the battle and used it on the wyvern's exposed underbelly, inflicting heavy damage and minor bleeding.
The wyvern retaliated with a self-ranged attack, "Wind Back Blow," knocking Miri away but leaving her sword lodged in its body. As the wyvern tried to take flight, Tobe used "Mana String" to latch onto it, trying to prevent its escape. However, the wyvern was too strong and dove off the cliff, dragging Tobe along with it. Miri regained her footing, and Yuka rushed with Blubby to the cliff's edge, calling out for Tobe.
Suddenly, the wyvern re-emerged from the cliff's depths with Tobe clinging to its horns. The wyvern flew alongside the cliff wall, trying to escape. Miri used Agility Up on herself and Blubby, allowing Blubby to roll faster as Yuka rode on top. They chased the fleeing wyvern. Tobe clung desperately to its horns, while Yuka tried to have Blubby shoot from below. Miri stopped her, worried Blubby might hit Tobe. Tobe then had an idea. He jumped off the side of the wyvern, used Mana String to propel himself toward it's body, and struck it with Explosion Impact then desperately clinged to its scales after. The impact made the wyvern scrape against the cliff wall, causing it to rise higher.
With the wyvern now in clear view, Yuka commanded Blubby to shoot slime shots, but then the wyvern fired multiple Wind Blasts in retaliation. Miri stepped in front of Yuka and Blubby, blocking the incoming blasts until her shield broke. Tobe jumped off and below the wyvern, used Mana String to pull himself to the spot where Miri's sword was lodged. He struck the sword's hilt with Explosion Impact, driving it deeper into the wyvern's body.
The wyvern, roaring in pain, frantically flew toward open grasslands with Miri and Yuka following close behind. Tobe tried to think of a way to bring the wyvern down and suddenly learned the spell "Fall Lightning." With determination, he climbed atop the wyvern and cast Fall Lightning down upon it, sending a massive shockwave through the creature. The wyvern crashed down onto the plains, slamming into a tree and falling unconscious.
Jun suddenly appeared from the nearby forest, covered in different-colored slime scraps and sludge. Greeting his friends, he explained he had seen the wyvern's massive shadow and came to investigate. Miri chipped off one of the wyvern's horns as proof of their victory, and Jun collected some loose wyvern scales for future weapon and armor crafting.
Miri wondered where to store the large horn. In a comedic twist, Tobe learned the spell "Space Space" and casually stored the horn in his newly acquired magical storage. The others, surprised, asked how he did it, but Tobe nonchalantly replied, "It's just a storage spell, what's so surprising?"
Yuka then suggested making the wyvern one of her summons, and the group agreed. Yuka successfully contracted the wyvern, naming it "Scale."
Afterward, the group returned to the village's Guild to report their completed quest. The receptionist was shocked but didn't believe they had succeeded until Tobe pulled out the wyvern's huge horn and dropped it on the counter. The receptionist, still in disbelief, handed over their reward: 10 silver coins for each member.
As they left, the receptionist put on a serious face and carried the Wyvern horn to the Village Chief's room upstairs.
The receptionist knocked on the door. The Chief asked him to come in. The receptionist entered, and the Chief asked, "What is your purpose?" The receptionist placed the massive Wind Wyvern horn on the Chief's table.
The Chief responded, "A Great Wind Wyvern, huh?... Experienced adventurers did this?"
The receptionist replied, "No, ma'am. It was some young beginner adventurers."
This response surprised the Chief. "Young beginner adventurers?! Hmm... If a group of young rookies can bring down a Great Wind Wyvern, I think they can help us with our current problem. Okay, next time they show up here, give them the urgent quest. I think they will be of great help to us."
The receptionist responded politely, "Yes, understood, ma'am."
After the receptionist left the room, the Village Chief stood up, walked toward the window, and thought to herself, "A group of young adventurers defeated a Great Wind Wyvern... an 'A Ranked Beast.' This is certainly an unbelievable marvel to hear. I wonder... how promising could they be?"
Shifting back to our four young heroes, Miri mentioned to the others that her shield was broken and her iron sword was severely cracked and damaged, thanks to someone... (She glares at the aloof Tobe.) Tobe just smiled back. Jun suggested they could repair it at the blacksmith again. She agreed, but before she could go, Jun stopped her and gave her two Wyvern scales, suggesting she add one to the sword and one to the shield, as Wyvern scales add more durability.
Miri arrived at the blacksmith and asked to buy another shield and repair her iron sword. This time, she asked him to add a Wyvern scale to each of them. She handed the two scales to the blacksmith. He said he could do it, but it would cost her a bit more, considering Wyvern scales are rare (specifically 25 bronze coins). She accepted the deal and waited. While Miri was waiting, Yuka was petting and playing around with Blubby. Tobe was lying on top of Scale's sleeping head (explanation: using Half-Summon, Yuka only summoned Scale's head, so it just poked out from the summoning circle), and in the distance, Jun was buying things from some merchant shops. The usually expressionless Miri flashed a small smile while looking at them.
Then the blacksmith called Miri, telling her that her new sword and shield were finished. She retrieved her new equipment and called the others to group up and head back to the tavern and inn for some quick rest. Tobe got down from Scale and asked Jun, while walking with his friends, where he had been and why he was covered in slime scraps. Jun explained that he bought bottles, went to the blacksmith, borrowed a book on simple crafting, and then went back to the forest to practice using his new weapons, gain experience and levels, and gather useful materials. Jun also collected slime scraps, rare herbs, dense stones, empty potion scrolls, and even some rare iron and silver, which impressed the other three.
They reached the tavern again and had a quick lunch before heading back to the guild to collect another quest. Before that, they took a little break. Tobe and Miri went to train a bit at the training grounds. Miri trained with Blubby, honing her sword and combat skills, while Tobe practiced controlling his mana and spell output on the training dummies. Yuka and Jun sat nearby, trying to learn how to craft items using the crafting book.
After their little break, they set off to the guild to get another quest. As they were about to check the quest board, the receptionist called out to them for an urgent mission...
