Saka took out his phone. In was raining incessantly. His friends had dragged him to a bar. A mixer was their idea of a surprise party slash birthday present. They had invited a couple of girls from other departments.
Saka was having anything but fun. For starters, he didn't didn't drink, since he was a priest. And he somehow didn't like the smell of alcohol.
His college buddies were celebrating his birthday, but it seemed more like a group date, which wasn't his cup of tea. In fact, he was mad. He wanted to spend his birthday with Vira, but Vira was being a considerate blockhead as usual.
"Saka?" The girl next to him decided to brave a conversation. He glanced at her, then took out his phone and sent a message to Vira.
"Where are you?"
"I'm still in Mann."
"Fine, I'm coming then."
"No you can't! It's your birthday today."
"Just watch me."
"I'm just joking. I'm near your dinner place. Eat, have fun with your friends. Text me when you are done."
"I'm done."
"Stay for atleast an hour."
Saka did not ask for this. He tried to humour Vira, but right now, he had reached his limits.
He messaged. "If you are not near my seat in 5 minutes, just see what I'll do."
The girl next to him decided to pursue the conversation. "Who are you texting to?"
He smiled sweetly. "Are you my mother?"
She didn't bother talking to him after that. His friends, useless guys, had used him to get themselves and date, he had no reason to even sit at the table.
The door opened, and Vira walked in. Saka's eyes lit for a second, before it was replaced by anger.
"Sorry guys, my boyfriend is here, if you'll excuse me."
He nodded his bye and got up, not waiting for any reaction. The others stared at Vira, shocked at the declaration.
They did not expect Saka to have a boyfriend, or such a handsome boyfriend, for that matter.
"Is he really your boyfriend?" The girl who had been sitting next to him asked him disbelievingly.
He did not bother answering, just grabbed Vira's hand and walked out.
Vira tried keeping Saka's pace. Saka was angry. But he didn't know why.
He took the car, and Saka sat next to him, but said nothing.
Vira tried engaging him in a conversation but to no avail. The drove quietly till the dorm. He parked the vehicle outside Saka's building and walked him inside.
He shut the door. Saka went to the bedroom and dumped his bag on the bed.
Vira held his hand. "If you don't tell me your reason, I won't know how to make it upto you." Vira said, pleadingly.
Saka yanked his hand and pushed Vira to the wall. He pinned Vira to the wall. Vira was completely taken aback by the angry reaction.
"You know today is my birthday."
Vira nodded, his eyes fixed on Saka.
"Why did you abandon me?"
"I didn't. I just wanted you to spend time with your own friends."
"It should be what I want, not what you want for me damn you!" His voice contained suppressed anger.
"I wanted my partner to take me around, to take me to dinner, to remember the gift he promised, I got none of it."
Vira was quiet. "I got you a gift." He said it quietly.
Saka's face was barely a centimeter away from his. He could see the disappointment disguised as anger on his face.
"And what is it?"
"It's in my pocket. Take it."
Saka took out an envelope. It was a photocard of some resort on an island he had never heard off before which had reservation date and time printed on it. Vira had planned a weekend getaway.
He let go of Vira as he stared at the card. Vira had planned a romantic weekend for the two of them?
"Really? Just the two of us?" His anger had completely vanished. "The whole weekend?"
Saka was so excited, that his eyes shone. Vira couldn't help but find him adorable. He was just like a puppy - sees a reward, forgets the pain sort of a guy.
"I have already packed the bags, all that's left for us, is to go. I thought we could take the first boat at dawn, but I will leave it to you. The last boat is at 10 tonight, we can go now if you like."
Saka looked at the tickets, and at Vira.
"Can we go today?"
Vira smiled, why not. "We can still make it on time for the last boat."
Vira made a call. "Can you pick us up now? We'll be there in twenty minutes.
The other guy said he could, for which Vira replied with,"Thanks"
Vira led Saka to the door, and locked up everything.
"Shall we leave now?"
Saka nodded, happily.
Vira asked him, "Are you still mad at me?"
Saka shook his head. He could forgive Vira for not spending a few hours, he was spending two whole days with him.
