"District 1 is a massive territory of ruined cityscape, with an abundance of plant life nearly covering the abandoned buildings. Once known as the gem of Aurum, it is now the epicenter of disasters after an unknown accident that resulted in catastrophe."Â
"2100 was the year District 1 fell apart. At approximately 1350, a bright flash of light happened and numerous changes were seen in the bodies of every living being within the perimeters. Civilians and animals mutated into grotesque creatures, initially showing sentience despite panicking yet quickly devolved into a state of madness, leading to said mutated creatures to viciously attack other civillians. In a span of a week, the entire district was completely infected by this unknown phenomena, and extreme measures were executed in order to minimize the damages."Â
"The remaining 5 districts erected high steel walls and other preventive measures in order to contain the abominations of District 1. Still, while this method has worked, the threat of the abominations never disappeared. In the past 20 years, there has been an increased activity in the mutants' attempts to get past the restricted borders. Through the efforts and sacrifices of our valiant soldiers, all districts remain safe. Yet the best outcome is to discovering the source of District 1's mutation, in order to turn the tables and finally put an end to this century of madness."Â
"This is where you come in, brave souls with nothing and everything to lose. With your consents, you have agreed to venture forth to District 1 and explore its terrain and biome. Iron Maiden Penitentiary and all of Aurum is grateful for your service. With the supplies and recording equipment provided, your mission is to discover the source behind District 1's destruction, and to salvage any organic samples that may be of beneficial use to mankind-"
The disembodied coming from a radio was abruptly cut off, and another inserts, more masculine, volatile and uncaring as the message played.
"-Listen up you maggots! Ain't no thanks given from us just because you idiots agreed to this mission. You're all convicted criminals that have done many horrible things in life so much so that none of you deserve to see the light of day. But Iron Maiden Penitentiary begged otherwise, and instead decided to give you lowlifes a chance to be of some use to society-and to regain freedom even though I think you all ought to just die already-other than staying cozy in your prison cells or facing execution. At the very least, you all will do one last good to this world by finding out about District 1."
"The recording equipment you ungrateful shits have been provided with are cameras and vials that you can put organic samples in if you think said organism you collected from will be useful. We can only surveil you fucks from the borders. Signal is cut off as soon as you step past said borders. Now before you get any ideas of escaping, sucks for you suckers by the time you're hearing this message you've all been dropped off at District 1 and the borders have closed and will not open under any circumstances, only after a certain time will we think to let you in. When is that? Fuck if I know, but its not anytime soon that's for sure."Â
"That means, no escape for everyone. You either succeed or die trying. For all the sins you demons have made, don't think salvation is going to be gifted to you on a silver platter, earn your freedom and do the world one good deed. God bless Aurum."
By the time the message ended, thirty individuals were already up and about as soon as their timed cuffs were automatically opened. Each carried a backpack that had recording equipment and nourishments that will no doubt not last for long.
Behind them were the towering walls of the five districts, stretching far and wide and a reminder of what awaits them should they succeed.Â
Yet in order to attain freedom, they must move forward, and venture into the cursed city that is District 1.Â
God have mercy on their stained souls.
