Chapter 1 - Jane and bad experience

Young, beautiful and successful, Jane Foster was among the youngest ladies in the business. She excelled at every problem and achieved every goal, but alas, not so with relationships. Not long ago, Jane was looking for love, but for years she faced different characters and obstacles in every single relationship she had. From an immature boy who doesn't know what he wants from life, to an alpha male who interferes with her too much, forbids and restricts her on a daily basis. With each past relationship she had grown more desperate and slowly cringed at cheap words, missing deeds and the initial strong promises. Repeated mistakes and wasted time had forced her to take a long break from new adventures or relationships. He had short-term dates, hourly runs and quick sex with strangers.

On a rainy day, Jane was rushing to meet Brooke. She took a taxi so she wouldn't get wet and be late. The two were best friends since childhood and met every Monday and Friday to discuss events, gossip and eat a delicious sandwich at the boutique cafe La Casa di Milano in the center of Milan. Each meeting ended with a new action plan and menu evaluation.

Jane was thirty years old, tall, slender, with long brown hair and a drunken face. She had a bitter experience with men and failed dates. Despite her ambition and career success in the field of transport. Jane was not successful in relationships and relationships with men. She had tried many times, but always without success.

Her best friend Brooke, thirty-two years old with long blond hair, slim, tall, with very good judgment and strong intuition about men. She was happily married with twins. The two were radically different, but they always found common interests and views on men and fashion. For years, Jane searched for love, but many times all she got was a bitter experience and a broken heart. Brooke had been able to find love since her teenage years and together with Michael they were raising their twins Megan and Katie.  She was always by Jane's side every time another relationship ended.

Jane liked tall, slim, ambitious and powerful men, but every time she fell for masks and deceptive personas. Her bitter experience with men and relationships was due to expectations and wrong choices. She often expected things from them that they weren't ready for. Some did not look for her for days, others were overly cautious, lest she ask too much of them. Attempt after attempt, she despaired of nonsense, excuses, lies and nonsense. With each passing year, she gave up more and more new meetings and acquaintances.

Despite the bad circumstances, Brooke did not give up her positive thinking and continued to search, but quite often hit the crossbar with the selection.

Relationships start strong with big promises, sugary affairs, and massive fake love and care. When it got serious and these relationships were expected to develop into something bigger. Men cowardly and atrophied simply walked away. Jace was heartbroken and had vain hopes for family and warmth.  Brooke was determined to change this trend in Jane's life and began persistently monitoring and vetting everyone her friend dated.

Many of the men Jane dated were idle, low-spirited fools who made promises and outright lies just so they could sleep with her. One didn't want to foot the bill on a first date, another was expecting Jane's inheritance, a third bragged about how successful and rich he was, but wanted everything covered equally so he wouldn't be financially harmed. Thus each of them was unsuccessful and increasingly absurd. Once Jane was on a date with a man who presented himself as good, successful, sophisticated and polite, until his wife arrived at the restaurant with his boss on her arm. After Jane found out that he was married with children, that he even had a mistress, she never trusted a man again, stopped dating and avoided contact with men altogether. This had caused her to completely open up to men and their performances, which led to Jane's alienation and closure.

There was a similar case ten years ago, when Jane fell in love with the young and wealthy Kenneth, who had promised to wait for her when she returned from her business trip to Denmark, but when she returned home a day early, she found him in bed with her colleague Penelope. Since then, she stopped trusting men and expecting loyalty. As time and years passed, the events repeated themselves with Jeremy, Christian and Anderson. A series of lying and stupid men. Brooke tried hard to get Jane to believe in love again, even going so far as to force her engagement to her colleague Harry. She had met Jane and Harry at one of the events that Brooke organized for the advertising firm she and Harry worked for. Her colleague was young, ambitious, handsome, quite successful for his age, but also capable enough. He liked and sought constant contact with Jane, but she had no interest in him because of his routine habits and excessive contact with his mother. Harry was successful in the advertising sector, but was known as a "mama's boy" due to his mother, Valentina's, obsession with control. He was ready to do anything to prove to Jane that he could change. Brooke knew about the problems and the obsession, but she was still determined to get them engaged.

Harry wanted badly to be liked and loved by Jane, so he was willing to do anything. A week before her birthday, he went to choose a present. To his disappointment and wrong move, he bought an engagement ring, but there was no indication of anything to make him buy. He asked Brooke for help organizing the birthday party and she helped him. On the day itself, he got ready, put on a nice suit, bought flowers and headed to the venue where the event would be held. Everyone gathered and waited for Brooke to bring Jane, who didn't suspect anything.  The moment they entered the restaurant, Harry took off the ring and dropped to one knee with a question to Jane. After hearing and seeing it, she was filled with horror and indignation. Not once did she give him a reason to think or expect something like that from her. After she came to her senses, she started screaming and chased him out of the restaurant. She was tired of his countless attempts to win her heart. After he left, she finally calmed down. Brooke was worried about her friend and her reaction, but she didn't dare say a word. The party ended faster than expected and everyone went home. Three days after the incident, Brooke finally decided to talk to Harry. He kept hoping until he finally decided to give up and move on. His mother was infinitely pleased that he would remain only for her. Jane was relieved when she heard from Brooke about his decision.
