Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: The Ascent to the Celestial Abyss

The air grew colder as Li Feng and his companions began their ascent up the mountain range. The path was narrow and treacherous, winding through jagged rocks and sheer cliffs that seemed to scrape the sky. Mist swirled around them, obscuring the path ahead and giving the mountain an otherworldly atmosphere.

"Careful, everyone," Mei Lin cautioned as she placed her hand on the rocky wall for balance. "The spiritual energy here is dense. It's making the terrain more unstable."

Xin Ling nodded, her eyes scanning the surroundings. "The mist is unnatural. It's filled with spiritual fluctuations. It's likely meant to disorient and separate us."

Li Feng could feel the intensity of the energy building with every step they took. The mountain was alive with power, and it felt like it was testing their resolve even before they reached the Celestial Abyss. He glanced back at his companions. "Stay close. We can't afford to get separated."

As they climbed higher, the path grew steeper and the air thinner. Chen, despite his usual bravado, gritted his teeth as he struggled to maintain his footing on the loose gravel and sharp rocks. "This mountain is trying to wear us down before we even reach the trials," he muttered, wiping the sweat from his brow.

Li Feng nodded, his eyes narrowed in concentration. "It's testing our endurance. We need to push through."

Hours passed as they climbed, each step requiring more effort than the last. The mist grew thicker, and strange sounds echoed through the mountains—a distant whisper, the rustle of leaves, and the occasional growl of a beast lurking in the shadows. The mountain seemed alive, watching their every move.

Suddenly, the path split into three different directions, each shrouded in dense fog. Xin Ling frowned as she inspected the options. "It's a formation—one designed to confuse intruders."

Elder Yun's warning echoed in Li Feng's mind: "The trials will test not only your strength but your wisdom and unity as a group."

"We have to choose carefully," Li Feng said. "If we pick the wrong path, we could be lost in these mountains for days."

Mei Lin took out a small compass imbued with spiritual energy, holding it up to the paths. The needle spun wildly, unable to lock onto a direction. "It's no use. The formation is disrupting my compass."

Chen sighed. "Figures. Nothing's going to be straightforward, is it?"

Xin Ling crouched down, examining the ground and the energy fluctuations. "We need to focus on the spiritual energy. The right path should have a resonance with the Celestial Abyss's energy."

Closing his eyes, Li Feng reached out with his senses. He felt the pulse of the mountain's energy, trying to identify the path that aligned with the Celestial Monarch's legacy. Slowly, he began to differentiate the energies—two paths felt wild and chaotic, while the third felt steady, like a heartbeat.

"This way," he said, pointing to the middle path. "I can feel the Celestial energy flowing through it. It's faint, but it's there."

The group nodded, trusting Li Feng's instincts. As they ventured down the middle path, the mist began to clear slightly, and the energy around them stabilized. The way forward was narrow, but it felt right.

Just as they thought they had made the correct choice, the ground trembled, and the air grew heavy. A massive boulder detached from the cliff above, hurtling towards them with terrifying speed. "Move!" Li Feng shouted, pushing Mei Lin aside as he dodged the falling rock.

Chen leapt to the side, his staff glowing with energy as he swung it to deflect smaller debris. Xin Ling dashed forward, grabbing Mei Lin's hand and pulling her to safety just as another boulder crashed down where they had stood moments before.

"This mountain isn't giving us any breaks!" Chen shouted as he dodged yet another rock.

"We need to keep moving!" Li Feng urged. "If we stay here, the formation will keep attacking us."

They pressed forward, navigating the narrow path as the mountain continued to test them. Finally, after what felt like hours, the mist began to clear completely, and they found themselves at a ledge overlooking a vast canyon. The sight took their breath away—far below, rivers of glowing energy flowed, and ancient, floating islands hovered above the chasm.

"That's it," Mei Lin whispered in awe. "The entrance to the Celestial Abyss."

Li Feng felt a surge of anticipation. The glowing energy below pulsed in rhythm with his own, and he could feel the connection between it and the legacy of the Celestial Monarch. "We're close."

As they descended the final stretch, the path widened into a massive stone platform surrounded by ancient statues. Each statue depicted a figure in various martial poses, their eyes glowing with a faint, eerie light. At the center of the platform stood a massive stone archway, inscribed with runes that pulsed with celestial energy.

"The Gate of Trials," Xin Ling said, her voice filled with reverence. "We've finally reached it."

Elder Yun had spoken of this gate. It was the threshold to the Celestial Abyss, and only those who could pass through it would be granted access to the trials within. Li Feng stepped forward, feeling the celestial energy wash over him. "This is it. Beyond this gate lies the Celestial Abyss."

Chen grinned, despite the fatigue evident in his eyes. "Time to show what we're made of."

Mei Lin and Xin Ling nodded, their eyes filled with determination. Together, they approached the gate. As they drew closer, the runes began to glow brighter, and the statues' eyes followed their movements.

Li Feng could feel the gate's energy testing him, assessing his strength, determination, and the resonance of his spirit. "Stay strong, everyone. This gate is testing our resolve."

The air around them shimmered, and a voice, ancient and echoing, filled the platform. "Only those worthy may enter the Celestial Abyss. Prove your strength, unity, and determination."

Li Feng raised his sword, letting the cosmic energy flow through him. "We are ready."

The gate responded, its runes flaring with brilliant light. The statues moved, shifting into combat stances, their eyes glowing with challenge. The trial had begun.

"Get ready!" Li Feng shouted as the first statue lunged toward them, its stone fists moving with terrifying speed.

The group sprang into action, working in unison. Chen blocked the first attack with his staff, while Mei Lin conjured a barrier of water to deflect another strike. Xin Ling darted forward, her daggers glinting as she struck at the joints of the statue, causing it to stagger.

Li Feng leapt into the air, his sword blazing with celestial energy as he brought it down on the statue's head. The impact shattered the stone, and the statue crumbled to pieces. But more statues activated, surrounding them and attacking with relentless precision.

"This is just the beginning!" Chen called out as he dodged a flurry of strikes.

Li Feng's eyes blazed with determination as he faced the oncoming statues. "We'll make it through—together!"

With their combined strength and unity, they fought through the statues, overcoming the trial one step at a time. As the last statue fell, the gate pulsed with energy, and the archway opened, revealing the entrance to the Celestial Abyss.

Panting but triumphant, the group gathered at the gate. "We did it," Mei Lin said, her face lit with relief and excitement.

Li Feng nodded. "The Celestial Abyss awaits. Our real journey begins now."

Stepping through the archway, Li Feng felt a surge of energy envelop him. The air on the other side was charged with power, and the landscape beyond was like nothing he had ever seen—a realm of floating islands, rivers of light, and towering ruins filled with cosmic energy.

The Celestial Abyss had opened its doors, and Li Feng and his companions had passed the first trial. Together, they prepared to face whatever lay ahead, their spirits united and their resolve unshaken.
