Chapter 84 The Power of Love: Overcoming Adversity
"I'm just too happy." Qin Wanshu could hardly remember the last time she had cried, but the tears flowed naturally. She had originally thought that her feelings for Zuo Qinghuan were merely affection, but now she realized they ran much deeper.
"Wherever you are, I can't bear to leave." How could she leave Qin Wanshu? Qin Wanshu was the person she cherished most in this world.
"In the future, no matter what happens, protect yourself first, okay?" Qin Wanshu didn't want Zuo Qinghuan to suffer any more harm, even if it was to protect her.
If it happened again, she would still push Qin Wanshu out of harm's way. Whether in the past or the future, she would always put Qin Wanshu first. Being with Qin Wanshu was already such a stroke of luck how could she bear to see Qin Wanshu hurt in the slightest? Protecting her was her responsibility.
"How long was I unconscious?" Zuo Qinghuan asked. She must have been out for a long time, given how haggard Qin Wanshu looked. It pained her to see Qin Wanshu like this; she wished she had woken up sooner.
"Two days." Two excruciatingly long days, more agonizing than any other time.
"Did you not sleep for two days?" If she weren't still injured and unable to move, Zuo Qinghuan would have pulled Qin Wanshu into her arms.
"I managed to nap a little when I was too tired," Qin Wanshu said with a smile. In truth, she hadn't slept at all, but she didn't want Zuo Qinghuan to worry.
"Go rest, please. It hurts me to see you like this." Zuo Qinghuan couldn't bear to see Qin Wanshu suffer any hardship.
"I'm not tired. Are you feeling any discomfort? I'll call the doctor to check on you." Qin Wanshu immediately called the on-duty doctor to examine Zuo Qinghuan. She was still very concerned about Zuo Qinghuan's condition.
After the doctor confirmed that Zuo Qinghuan was fine, Qin Wanshu finally relaxed a little. She then called Li Xin to let her know that Zuo Qinghuan had woken up.
Li Xin rushed over from home to see Zuo Qinghuan. When she entered the room, Zuo Qinghuan was still motionless, likely asleep, as Qin Wanshu was also dozing off with her head resting on the edge of Zuo Qinghuan's bed. Li Xin knew how exhausted Qin Wanshu must have been these past two days, but only now that Zuo Qinghuan had woken up could she finally rest. Li Xin looked at their tightly clasped hands and felt a warm sense of affection. After going through such trials, their bond would only grow stronger. To love someone so deeply that you'd be willing to die for them it must feel incredible. Li Xin thought enviously. She quietly left the room to let them rest, hoping that one day she and Yan Ruozhe could share such a loving relationship. Even if it meant getting hit by a car for Yan Ruozhe, she'd be willing. Thinking of Yan Ruozhe, Li Xin felt a surge of happiness. After all, she and Yan Ruozhe were off to a good start.
After Li Xin repeatedly assured her that Zuo Qinghuan would be fine, Qin Wanshu finally felt comfortable enough to go back to Zuo Qinghuan's place to fetch some essentials for both of them. Zuo Qinghuan would likely be in the hospital for a long time. Before leaving, Qin Wanshu asked Li Xin to keep an eye on Zuo Qinghuan, which Li Xin gladly agreed to.
"Playing the hero and nearly losing your life in the process," Li Xin teased Zuo Qinghuan, who was in good spirits after waking up.
"I'd do it again," Zuo Qinghuan retorted, rolling her eyes. It wasn't like she had planned for Han Shibin to go crazy. Thinking back to the scene, she still felt a bit scared, but at least Qin Wanshu was unharmed. That was the silver lining.
"You had brain surgery..." Li Xin deliberately trailed off.
"And?" Zuo Qinghuan knew from Li Xin's tone that something unpleasant was coming.
"To make the surgery easier, they usually shave your head," Li Xin said, intentionally trying to provoke Zuo Qinghuan. Zuo Qinghuan had hair longer and better maintained than hers, and she had spent so much effort taking care of it. Now, all that beautiful hair was gone. What a tragic loss.
Sure enough, Zuo Qinghuan's expression changed. With her head still bandaged, she hadn't noticed the issue until Li Xin brought it up. The thought of her bald head made her scalp tingle.
"Actually, I think a chic nun has a certain charm," Zuo Qinghuan said, trying to sound nonchalant despite her inner turmoil.
"Yeah, a nun is one step closer to enlightenment," Li Xin said, rubbing salt in the wound. She couldn't wait to see Zuo Qinghuan's new look once the bandages came off. She decided she would personally remove the bandages to witness the glorious sight of Zuo Qinghuan's bald head. Why did she suddenly imagine Zuo Qinghuan, with her shiny bald head, rolling around in bed with Qin Wanshu? The scene was too much. Li Xin felt like she was about to get a nosebleed from her own imagination.
"Get out!" Zuo Qinghuan was annoyed by Li Xin, especially when she flaunted her wavy, dog-like hair in front of her, pretending to be alluring. It was infuriating. This was the first time since the accident, after being pampered by Qin Wanshu, that Zuo Qinghuan felt a sense of melancholy.
"Nun... don't worry... maybe Qin Wanshu loves your new look..." Li Xin said between fits of laughter. She couldn't stop laughing; her stomach hurt.
"What's got Dr. Li so amused?" Qin Wanshu asked curiously as she returned, seeing Li Xin laughing uncontrollably, completely devoid of her usual professional demeanor, while Zuo Qinghuan looked both embarrassed and angry.
"Ask the nun. But the nun's about to blow her top, so I'll make my exit," Li Xin said, clutching her stomach, which was cramping from laughter. She leaned against the wall as she left Zuo Qinghuan's room, still unable to stop laughing.
"What's wrong?" Qin Wanshu asked softly, seeing Zuo Qinghuan's transition from embarrassment to melancholy.
"My hair's gone," Zuo Qinghuan said mournfully.
"It'll grow back," Qin Wanshu replied, thinking it was a minor issue. Although she also found it a pity that Zuo Qinghuan's long hair was gone, what mattered most was that Zuo Qinghuan was safe and sound.
"But it'll take forever to grow back to how it was. Now I'm bald. I don't want to look like a nun. I liked my long, flowing hair," Zuo Qinghuan whined, pouting at Qin Wanshu.
Qin Wanshu tried to imagine Zuo Qinghuan with a bald head perhaps the image of a nun. She suddenly understood why Li Xin had been laughing so hard, and she herself struggled to suppress a smile. But she managed to hold it in, not wanting to hurt Zuo Qinghuan's fragile self-esteem.
"Hmph, that perverted Li Xin must have been thinking something really dirty and found it hilarious," Zuo Qinghuan said, fully aware of Li Xin's twisted sense of humor. That woman's mind was a cesspool!
"How do you know what she was thinking?" Qin Wanshu thought Zuo Qinghuan was overreacting.
"Qin Wanshu, you can try imagining it too," Zuo Qinghuan said, suddenly feeling mischievous as she looked at Qin Wanshu's serious expression.
"Hmm?" Qin Wanshu raised an eyebrow, not understanding what Zuo Qinghuan wanted her to imagine.
"A nun rolling around in bed with you," Zuo Qinghuan said softly, watching Qin Wanshu's expression as she tried to hold back her laughter. Seeing Qin Wanshu's reaction, Zuo Qinghuan's mood suddenly improved. Hmph, now you want to laugh too!
Qin Wanshu's mind involuntarily conjured up the image of Zuo Qinghuan, bald as a nun, engaging in that activity. It was indeed... something.
