He was correct. Today was the ideal day for madness. He had an idea of what was going on, but he needed to confirm it. He approached one of the bystanders and gazed into his eyes, which had been left without light, he then moved on to another, but the findings were the same. This had to be an outlawed power. He rapidly began running, but then everything went dark.
He awoke confined to a chair in a chamber built of stone, and glancing around, he noticed a door, an exit! However, it was guarded by two guards.
He overheard a few folks conversing while heading to the door.
'Yes, boss, we discovered another person who was unaffected by your incredible power. Just don't get mad.'
"There is no reason for me to be angry, of course, there will be those who are unaffected by it, no power is flawless."
Subsequently, the door opened, and a young man with brown short hair and hazel eyes came first. He appeared quite anxious, followed by a woman in a lab coat who had silver hair and purple eyes.
Her expression darkened as her eyes met Max's.
"Surely this is a joke? Being stronger than me is the only way to escape my power. Are you saying that this child is stronger than me in some way?"
The young man looked terrified.
'Not at all boss, something must have gone wrong.'
She walked over to Max who was already pale at that.
"What's your drive kid."
Max didn't want to respond but he knew he had to.
'I uh..don't have one'
She stared at him for a bit then sighed.
"Just kill him"
At the sound of that, Max twitched. His mind must be deceiving him. No way he was going to die, he didn't want to, he was terrified of death. And he couldn't die before completing his oath.
He began attempting to break the shackles that bound him to the chair, as a young man approached him holding a fire.
The guy lit Max on fire and then turned away. He couldn't look, his heart wouldn't let him gaze at an innocent child he'd set on fire.
Max began to think more slowly, and his vision darkened.
'Is this what death looks like? Damn it!'
Those were the last words that Max was able to think of before he ultimately got concerned by the darkness.
Following the women, the male began to leave. Then he halted, wondering why he no longer felt his fire.
He turned around and looked at the child again. What he saw made him almost lose balance.
The kid then opened his eyes. His irises were taken over by darkness, his pupils had gone white, and they did not appear natural. Instead of being circular, his pupils were vertical slits.
Those eyes reminded him of something. A dragon's eyes. How could this kid have them?
'Untie me right now, or I'll murder you.'
The young man didn't listen to the child's words, he was terrified but he knew he couldn't do that.
'So you have chosen death'
'Dont get so full of your-'
He couldn't finish his sentence as his head dropped to the cold ground, followed by his body. As the body fell, the woman saw the chair that she couldn't see before. But it was empty. She quickly moved to the right, avoiding some claws that would cut her neck.
"What's with you and necks?"
She pulled out her one-sided blade and charged it with electricity. Moving with lightning speed to strike the boy with the dull side of her blade. When the boy saw this, he didn't dodge it, it was the perfect opportunity to plan a counter-attack, he only had to take some moderate damage. However, as the attack was about to land, she ducked, impaling him from below. It was a feint.
She pushed it deeper inside, looking at the boy's eyes, which were losing their color.
'You got to cocky. I would have let you live if you didn't attack me. It's a shame.'
The boy looked at her and laughed. Slowly pulling the blade out of him.
"You should have taken your own advice."
She attempted to prepare for another attack, but her feet did not move. She looked down and saw her feet stuck in the darkness below, slowly creeping higher.
The kid tossed her sword on the ground and smiled at her. However, another blade passed by his head, it was a guard. He groaned and went quickly towards him, slashing him with his claws. Then he looked back and saw the woman emerge from the darkness. She used the last of her abilities to overcome the electricity at her feet and flee.
She hurriedly reached for her blade and then tried to stand up. But she couldn't because she was too exhausted. She fell unconscious. The boy's eyes then returned to normal.
Max looked at the unconscious people on the floor and turned pale what had he done?
He ran out.
Luckily he knew the area so he returned to the orphanage.
The next day, a broadcast was presented on the town's enormous billboard. It was the guild leader. Max had never seen the leader before, so he was startled to see who it was. He expected to see a muscular person wearing a lot of armor. Instead, he noticed a confident female with somewhat pink black hair and pink eyes. Her choice of clothes appeared to be that of a model rather than a leader. But what did the pink in her hair indicate? He has seen people with a variety of eye colors, as they change power when someone's drive is active But never hair. He may have just been mistaken and it was just a trend style, but he knew there was something behind it.
'I am sure you are all concerned about the latest event, but there is no need to panic. Even if I and a lieutenant are gone, it doesn't mean there aren't any other strong members who can guard you. There's also no reason for us to return early, the enemy has already been beaten and you're all secure. One final message, a prize was sent to where the enemy was defeated for the mysterious savior to take. We picked that location since it is a spot that only he and some of our expert investigators know about.'
A while later, Max was in a coffee shop waiting for a cup of coffee, which he had purchased with the money from his reward. He had always wanted to try it because he had seen his mother drink it quite often. The coffee shop was also a good place to reflect on what had just happened. What happened when he was taken into the darkness, and why did he feel stronger? Was it he who defeated them, and did he receive a drive? That had to be it, right? It would explain some questions. But, why now?
A more crucial question was why was he hearing a second voice in his head.
As he was attempting to figure things out, his coffee arrived. He then took a sip.
'It's so bitter!'
