An ancient colosseum held millions of demons, all ecstatic for the battle that was going to take place. In the Colosseum, stood a girl, her silver hair sparkled from the light reflecting on it, blinding some of the demons. Her golden eyes could be considered more valuable than the most expansive gold, she was wearing a golden earring on her right ear, which was full of fake gems. But why would just a beauty lower herself to such low jewelry? She was wearing a white jacket over a black T-shirt. Entering an arena without armor? She must be very confident. Her skinny pants wrapped around her curves perfectly. She gripped her sword waiting for her enemy to arrive.
A Blue Thunder struck the ground, making the sand that occupied the arena go into the air. Once it cleared up it revealed the body that belonged to a young man, his black hair resembled the color of the abyss, what could have he been through to get to that color? Unlike his hair, his eyes were a real wonder, its green color could only be matched to the ones you would see on jewelry for noble, hell maybe even for royalty.
His hair was wet, looks like he just took a shower. Such insolence, before a battle you should prepare, not take a shower! On his left ear, there was a black earring, that matched his hair it gave a presence of professionalism. On his wrist, he had a bracelet made out of a blue metal, but the real beauty of it was the black gem in the middle, even with such a black shade it was still able to sparkle. On it was written the words "The Igor Family Bond". The thing is he didn't belong to that family, to be real he didn't belong to any family.
His black rope looked wretched, burned, and full of blood. His pants were too small for him, did he not have a fashion sense? His brown belt held a scabbard, but it was missing a blade.
'Hello there, long time no see.'
The tone in his voice was like that of a child, he was addressing his enemy like a buddy he hadn't seen in ages.
"Short time no see actually, it has been only two months since you mercilessly murdered the last of my family."
For her it was the exact opposite, her tone held a deep hatred inside, waiting to come outside.
'How many times do I have to say this, you know I don't like repeating myself. Those weren't your family, I am dear sister.'
That was the last straw, the girl lunged at the boy, her single-edged sword pointing to cut through his stomach.
But it was blocked by the boy's arm. The second the blade touched his hand, a black goey liquid started wrapping itself around it.
'I'll get you back dear sister, even if it cost my body to this damn creature.'
A figure of a dragon could be seen wrapping its claws around the boy's body as he said that.
...
The forest was silent, as the singing birds had left because of the cold winter forcing them. It destroyed their nests and covered the forest in a deep level of snow, meanwhile, the animals weren't happy with it, the human children were more than excited by it, jumping in the endless snow, and the flying snowballs made it look like a war field.
Only one wasn't enjoying winter and its gifts.
In the forest, a tiny boy with some ordinary black hair you see every day no matter where you are, and some green eyes that were tinded with a grey look, taking everything people liked about green eyes, the grey covered the green, making it look like a cheap gem.
In his hand, he gripped a small dagger he had worked hard to obtain. But for what reason could it be for, a terrifying monster?
He leaned towards his left, barely dodging an attack from the mighty slime he was fighting. Taking advantage he counter-attacked, but the dagger just went through the slime not causing any damage. And sadly for the boy, the smile was already back in his position ready to attack. But as the boy felt a shiver, a flame burned the smile.
"Max Rose! What did I say about going into the forest without me to protect you?"
It was a maid and an angry one at that. The boy looked even more terrified than before when fighting the slime.
'I am sorry, Miss Charlotte. I wanted to train but didn't see you around.'
''What will I do with you, Max? Your reputation is already awful. You are a boy, and you do not even have a drive."
You're probably thinking, What does Max being a boy have to do with anything? Well, every boy born into the Rose family has been weak, much weaker than the normal individual. Meanwhile, the girls born into the family have all accomplished great things, whether for humans or dragons. Max's reputation in the family is so low that he has been assigned to help the maids. And the maids aren't the type to try to help Max, instead, they make him their favorite joke.
The maid let out a sigh.
"Your mom would like to talk to you."
'Mother wants to talk to me? Why?'
"I'm not sure why, she didn't tell me, just go talk to her you brat, and don't make my job any more difficult than it already is. She's in her room waiting for you."
...
The world is divided into four continents. The dragon continent, massive and powerful. The demon continent, both frightening and exciting to some humans with specific desires. The human continent, small and vulnerable. The fourth remains unknown. Meanwhile, humans have managed to become one of the three dominating species, though they do not compare to the other two. They are viewed as a vessel continent and slave reserve for dragons. The top ten families that give the dragons with the most powerful and clever slaves are known as Servus Familias. But what happens if a child is born into one of these residences with no drive?
...
As Max approached his mother's room, he couldn't help but tremble. His mother was the person he feared the most, the one who gave birth to him. When he stepped inside he was hit with a glass of wine. Max was now drenched in wine...and In blood that started flowing from his forehead. The pain was there, but he forced himself to not react, if he did this would turn into a disaster.
"Finally, you came. You know it's not good to keep your mother waiting, next time be her ten minutes before me you Rat."
'yes Mother'
Max wasn't a very energetic person, but even the little shine in his eyes disappeared around his mother.
"I called you here to let you know you will start school tomorrow."
That came unexpectedly for Max. He was going to school, but why what could he learn, he didn't have a drive so what use was school? But still, he was excited he always wanted to experience school. He read about it from books he would steal from his older sister's room.
"You are lucky. Your father knows how to convince a person if it was up to me you would have gotten thrown out on the streets a while ago. now leave"
Max shook his head and then left.
Outside he wiped his head with a handkerchief then a person approached him. It was his twin sister Isabelle.
"Hey Max you think we could hang around I'm so bored."
Even though they were twins, the only thing they had in common was their hair and eye color, and even those features were pretty different, her's were much more refined, and the colors were more vibrant and beautiful. Isabelle was considered the hope of this family. She was born with a fire drive and had a connection to multiple other drives too, and soon she would be able to use them all. Their mother gave her the nickname "Hope" while she gave Max the nickname "Rat." She thought it matched him.
'Of course Iz, we should check on those tomatoes we planted last month!'
Even with their differences, Max and Isabelle were really close. They couldn't spend time with their other siblings, which is probably why they grew so close. Without Isabelle, Max had three other sisters: one older sister who was 18 and didn't live with them anymore, one who was 5, and another who was 3. Max and Isabelle were the middle children of the family, both 9 years old.
As Max and Isabelle hung out in the Rose family's garden, they heard a familiar voice - their grandma's.
Max adored his grandma, she was one of the few who treated him kindly. And the only person who still believed that Max would get a drive.
'How are my grandchildren doing?'
''Grandma!''
the children said in unison. Then rushed to hug her
'What are you doing here grandma?'
Max said with a curious expression on his face.
'I am here to check your soul's progress.'
Isabelle was thrilled to hear that she hadn't checked her soul in a long time. For children, it's not easy to check their souls alone, so they need adult help.
Meanwhile, Max was disappointed. What was there to check? He didn't have a reason to check as he didn't have a drive. He would just end up disappointed.
Isabelle assumed a meditation position, and her grandma placed her hand on her back. When she woke up, she found herself surrounded by flames that had grown so large she couldn't see beyond them. However, this wasn't much of a feat, as she was quite short.
But there was something else, she saw a small stone. After she came back into the real world she told her grandma about it.
Her grandma was caught off guard she didn't think Isabelle was going to develop a second drive so soon. She praised Isabelle and then turned to Max who was sitting there bored watching some ants carry a small piece of food.
'It's your turn, Max.'
Max was surprised by that. Why would she want him to check his soul?
'huh? Why we both know there's nothing there.'
'who knows Max maybe your drive finally appeared your maid told me you fought a slime.'
After hearing that maybe his drive had finally appeared, his eyes were filled with hope as he got into a meditation position. He felt a bit excited when he sensed his grandma's touch. What if he did get a drive?
Sadly, all his excitement faded as he found himself in a completely dark and empty void. Max never liked this place, not only did it bring him disappointment, but he also felt like he was being watched.
When he woke up in the real world, the hope in his eyes vanished, replaced by disappointment. Seeing this, his grandma tried to comfort him, but nothing.
Max held onto this disappointment for the rest of the day. Only at night when he was walking to his room did it disappear. The reason was his excitement about his first day at school.
'hey did you see the Rat looking into his soul'
''yeah it was so funny seeing all his hope get crushed''
Max stooped for a second but then continued he didn't have to care about what some maids said. Tomorrow was a new beginning.
