"Aubrey, what the hell are you talking about?" he demanded, his expression darkening into a scowl.
Aubrey, undeterred by Augustine's sudden change in demeanor, simply smiled. "What, you're surprised? Did you think I was going to let you go that easily? You and I both know that your mother would never accept you being with a…"
Her eyes flicked to Charles, her expression turning cold and calculating.
Aubrey leaned away from Augustine, a coy smirk tugging at the corners of her mouth. "Oh, Augustine, you're so naive," she cooed, her eyes glinting with mischief. "Your mother contacted me. She told me that you were still single, and with my long-held crush on you, what better way to unite our families than through marriage?"
Augustine's response was sharp and dismissive. "I'm already married, Aubrey," he spat, his words a biting retort.
Without another word, he turned on his heel, walking past her as he made his way towards the empty chairs in the dining area while Charles trailed after him.
Augustine held out a chair for Charles, offering a silent gesture of comfort and support.
Once Charles was seated, Augustine took the sunflower from his grasp, holding it aloft like a trophy. "You!" he called out, his voice echoing through the room. "Come here!
A maid, her head bowed, hurried forward, her movements timid and fearful. "Yes, master?" she inquired meekly, her eyes never meeting his.
"Keep this," Augustine ordered, handing over the flower to the maid.
Exhaling!
The entire dining room became quiet as Aubrey made her way back to her seated position while popping at her cheeks in rage.
On the other hand, Mrs Wales was heavily breathing in and out as she tried to hold in the anger that was yet to erupt like a volcano.
Mr. Wales cleared his throat, his voice cutting through the thick atmosphere of tension. "Well, the food isn't going to eat itself, and it would be a shame to let it go cold," he remarked.
Despite the uncomfortable silence, Charles decided to be the first to eat, breaking the tension. "Thank you for the meal, Mr. Wales," he said politely, despite Aubrey's angry glare.
Mr. Wales nodded his head in response to the greeting as he began to eat, while Charles followed suit.
Mrs. Wales sighed, grabbing a fork and knife from the table as she also began to eat.
Mrs. Wales began, her voice calm and measured. "Son, Aubrey Ethan has been your friend since childhood. She is a good, respectable young lady who is well behaved." Mrs Wales stated, averting her gaze towards Aubrey who seemed delighted with the praise that was being showered on her.
"She's been here for the past two hours, and from the looks of it, you two seem to have chemistry," Mrs. Wales suggested, her voice tinged with hope. "Spending more time together might allow you to get to know each other better."
Augustine sighed, clenching his fist ever so tightly with grunted teeth. "I already told you that I am married so why are you forcing me to build a connection with Aubrey?"
Hearing Augustine's words, his mother slammed her fist on the dining table as she rose from her seat. "As your mother, I have the right to decide your future!" she yelled, her voice resonating in the silence. "How dare you disobey me like this?!" She yelled in complete rage.
"You can't just come into my home and declare that you're gay," Mrs. Wales raged, her words slicing like daggers. "And on top of that, you tell me you're already married? I will never accept this! Not in my house!"
Augustine took in a long deep breath while closing his eyes. "I am an adult and I have to live my life the way I want to." He grunted with his eyes still closed.
His mother scoffed. "You are going to get married to Aubrey and I don't care if you like it or not. I have given you an order and that's final!"
"But…"
Before Augustine could complete his sentence, Mr. Wales raised his hands towards him, snapping his finger in order to draw the attention of everyone.
"That's enough!" He spat, giving a command.
"Augustine, it's best you and your.. you and your husband head back home for now." He ordered. "Aubrey, we apologize for the way this turned out. Perhaps you should leave as well." Mr. Wales added.
Aubrey gulped down her saliva as she nodded her head, grabbing her handbag before rising from her seated position.
Augustine and Charles rose from their seats, the tension in the room palpable as they made their way out.
As they exited the sitting room, the two guards snapped into action, closing the door behind them.
Augustine walked up to his car, firmly holding the wrist of Charles but just as he was about to open the front door, Aubrey stopped him.
"Augustine!" Aubrey called out, her words prompting him to become immobile as he arched his brows at her. "What do you want?" Augustine probed.
"I don't think I need anything from you, Augustine. You just claimed to be gay, but what if I…"
Aubrey words trailed off as she moist her lips with her saliva before slamming….
