"Why?" the Sect Matriarch asked, her voice steady even as she pinned one of her male companions in a chokehold. She rode him mercilessly, both of them lost in the ride of mutual pleasure.
"Why, Mother? How dare a lowly man, who survives by our grace, talk back to us? How can he raise his voice against us?" Mei Hua turned away, unable to stomach the debauchery before her.
"Why not?"
Mei Hua hesitated, frustrated by her mother's constant questioning on this matter. "Because… because we are superior!" she blurted out.
"Who decided that? You?" the Sect Matriarch growled, her voice sharp, as if her daughter's words were too arrogant.
Mei Hua's body tensed at her mother's sudden sharp tone. "No… no, Mother, I wouldn't dare suggest that…" she stammered.
"Then what?"
"I was… I was referring to the natural order of things," Mei Hua replied, even though she sounded unsure of her own words.
