Chapter 1 - 《Void of Souls》 Chapter 1

What's going on ?

Where am I?

Lyriel wondered with furrowed brows as he felt his form strangely suspended in the air. The air felt cool and unsettling, danced around him, making his ear twitch.

It's soo quiet...

Weren't there supposed to be loud cheering voices earlier? why was it awkwardly silent now?

An unknown thought pierced the mind. With closed eyes, legs slowly pointed downwards instinctively towards the floor. Instead of the expectant feeling of solid surface beneath his soles, all his feet embraced was emptiness and nothingness.

Huh? Now brows creased even deeper, Thoroughly confused. Where's the floor? Where really am I?

Lyriel's body was unbelievably weak and vulnerable that he found it hard to open his eyelids. They appeared even heavier than two sacks of tomatoes. The stress made him groan. The youth took minutes of struggle before he was finally able to open his eyes. Lashes fluttered. Lyrien, however, froze as soon as he peeled them open.

...?

Pitch darkness welcomed Lyriel's vision, surrounding him and the emptiness of a environment he was in. Gone was the shabby tiny room full of hard drugs and alcohols he recolled his eyes pitifully surveying before his demise. The coal tarred roads he landed on after jumping of from his little niche above a fifteen storybuilding. The crowd of people throwing pitiful and pretentious gazes at him while sympathizing his corpse. Their endless chattering and whispering voices, which irked him as they snapped and videoed at how helpless they must have found him.

Sickly and orphaned, The last straw of living was when his girlfriend and best friend betrayed and abandoned him during a police invasion. How they fled and ran for their life. Dropping Lyriel off as sacrifice.

They even snitched on him!

However, currently, it seemed as though a dark cloak had been wrapped around Lyriel, intent to blocking any beam of sunlight nor unwanted memories from passing through. As if everything had been washed away by a gloominess he knew not of it's origin, leaving little to the imagination. Gone was the most shameful day of Lyriel's life. The day he ended his life as the helpless depressed orphan, exploited for drug trafficking.

Yet, The dim surrounding was dreadful. Terrifying.

It was even more terrifying as Lyriel yanked his gaze towards his feet. The endless hollowness glaring back at him resembled a memorandum reminding him of how he blacked out, almost mockingly. Beneath his feets was a bottomless hollow filled with darkness.

However, strangely amidst the obscurity, the only source of light suffused faintly. It radiated from the surface of his skin as Lyriel glanced at his hands. He was naked and glowing. His skin glimmered like golden pearls basking the sunlight. At times they flickered, other times they glared. However, they didn't fail to illuminate the very place Lyriel floated.

Am i dead? Lyriel suddenly blinked as his mind ransacked for immediate answers. Hands moving to cover his exposed crotch. Was this death? Was this the beginning of his judgement? Lyriel sure wasn't aware of how death appeared to be.

While in thought, Lyriel's naked glowing soul aimlessly floated around in the space. From afar, it looked like a golden twinkling star searching for answers in the dark. He was searching for answers unaware of another glowing figure materializing behind him.

"Help me... "

A whisper as though the last plea for survival sounded from behind. It was masculine, Lyriel predicted.

He paused and turned as he caught sight of another glowing figure floating behind him. It was a male form whom seemed to be his age. His head was hung low and it was covered by a short sleek hairs. Only the man's torso about were revealed as the other half were dancing like a tongue of flame.

"Help me..." The helpless voice came again. This time, it's words simply echoed directly in Lyriel's mind just similar to the act of telepathy.

Clearly, The earlier call had also been transferred like that.

...?

Lyriel floated back briefly. Not only was he confused, he was scared as well. A dousing sensation as though the feeling of ice water embraced the surface of his glistening soul's skin, pouring and freezing deep into his very being. And unknown chills creeped over his frame as he faced this unfamiliar figure.

"You would help me... won't you...?"

The figure's head didn't lift as it rattled out more words into Lyriel's head in a frenzy. Before Lyriel could speak, It's now incoherent words grew faster and faster. Rising in a crescendo, and a sharp pain excruciatingly pierced Lyriel's head like a dagger.

Lyriel groaned at the sharp ache, placing his palm towards his head. What the? It was abrupt that it made Lyriel's soul stagger forward, reaching for the other soul. Grimacing, he was unaware of the thousands of twinkling stars that began to illuminate the darkness around them.

Fuck! With muddled eyesight, out of the blues, Lyriel was falling before he could reach the form of the other man! He couldn't even steady his breath as the gravity pulled him even deeper. Hauling him towards a wide appeared glimmering portal. Which at the same time glimmered even brighter.

Emerging rope-like lights from the portal twirled and intertwined each other gracefully. They rushed to receive Lyriel's descending soul.

What sort of joke was this? Was this really how cruel judgement could be? The Dozens of glowing tendril-like lights wrapped themselves mercilessly around the curves of Lyriel's body as they pulled him in. Receding unhurriedly towards the portal. Their rigid grips around him prevented the unyielding struggle of the man as his arms flailed wildly. The groaning sound of Lyriel struggling echoed.

The portal appeared somewhat endearing as he closed in the distance. Before Lyriel's lowered eyes, It appeared bigger and bigger until light was all he could see. It was all too quick to happen.

The tips of glowing feets met glaring fluid like surface as the portal slowly consumed Lyriel's vulnerable figure upto the hip. It crept forward to the waist until it reached the youth's collarbone. Numbness embraced every part of the body swallowed by the portal as it crawled higher.

Ignoring the numbness beneath his chest, Lyriel glanced up. A free arm lifted into the air as if to grab something, Anything for support. The hung-headed figure was only now a glittering star disappeared amidst the vast seas of other glittering stars.

...?

The rising numbness arose to Lyriel's cheeks, devoured the single glowing moist trailing downwards until it fully engulfed Lyriel's head. The blinding light struck his vision.

Lyriel felt his consciousness slipping, replaced by alternate flashes of materializing memories belonging to someone unfamiliar. Scenes after scenes portrayed themselves like rapidly flipping pages as though explaining about this unfamiliar person.

When it was all over, A silent whisper again sounded. Like the last sway of passing current...

"Please. help me... Live for me...."
