Chereads / SUMMONED BY AN EXTRA NECROMANCER / Chapter 3 - Glimmers of hope.

Chapter 3 - Glimmers of hope.

Devon is puzzled to see her stupor and questions, 'Why asking me that if you already know I couldn't understand you?'

Despite this question, he couldn't help but wonder...

'Is she testing me?'

However, he didn't take the time to think more about Mystic's behavior due to a new inspected factor.

[DING! Boundless evolving's system is now settled!]

He was almost startled when these notifications popped up before his eyes.

[Boundless evolving's system is the vestige left by the monarch of death.]

[You can use evolution points to evolve everything related to you through collection and exchange.]

After displaying these words, the holographic screen disappeared before Devon, as if it were merely a dream.

He remained bewildered for a long time, unsettled by what had just occurred.

They were the same words style he had seen before appearing in this world. "Is it the system?" he wonders restlessly.

Even without a heart, he could feel the scorching flames of hope igniting his soul. It burned so intensely that he had to clench his fists to stay grounded.

"Hey, are you listening to me at least?"

Upon hearing Mystic shout these words, he instinctively looks at her for a fleeting moment before returning to the unfolding situation.

This time, something unexpected occurred. His doubts turned into assertions when he saw a new information tab appear in front of him.

'"Finally!" he exclaimed, feeling a rush of excitement as his pupils trembled while he read these lines.

Without hesitating for a single moment, he leaps to his feet and dashes toward the glistening lake, captivated by his own reflection.

This idea had crossed his mind at the beginning, wanting to know what he looked like was part of one of his longings.

But he was afraid of being disappointed, so he didn't dare to take the step.

But right now it was different, and his goal also differed from the last one.

As he arrived at the tranquil lake's edge, he was startled to see a white skeleton standing before him.

The skeleton had only two red pupils, which gleamed in the shape of a spherical shade, and a mysterious crimson-red orb embedded in its torso.

This sight was so unsettling that it made him step back.

'How the hell did she keep her cool in front of such an abomination!?'

He couldn't help but praise Mystic's courage while he contemplated himself in the lake's mirror.

Immediately, new information appeared before him.

Information that he was looking forward to.

[As long as the host got enough evolution points, he could infinitely evolve.]

...

Although Devon saw his lifespan shortened by the system, he did not focus on that.

The system's last message was the greatest glimmer of hope for him.

'Evolving endlessly, huh? Could... could I... one day... break this master-servant contract?'

[To break the contract, the host must achieve the ninth order and acquire three million evolution points.]

'...Displays my balance.'

[EP: 0.1]

'Ugh.' Although he had no heart, a sharp pain similar to stabbing was felt by him, after understanding the system's cunning answer.

'What can I accomplish with my current evolution points?'

[Nothing! You can only increase your body strength or spiritual energy by 1 after getting 2 evolution points. You must have at least 5 evolution points for your skills and 10 to level up.]

In the meantime, Mystic gives up, seeing that Devon freely ignores her.

'Despite his intelligence, he chooses not to follow my lead.'

She was not angry. On the contrary, she seemed delighted by this, almost like a masochist.

Because,

'The more a beast is talented, the more arrogant and proud it will be!'

Devon gazes at her, his eyes tracing the way she shines in front of him, and he senses that something is amiss. "This girl has a problem," he thinks.

It was all he could do at the moment to resist the urge to reach out and offer his help.

'Ah so, then, how can I rack up more EPs fast?'

[…The fastest way remains to snatch them by killing enemies. However, you can exchange divine gifts for them as well.]

'...Divine gifts? Like this one?'

He's staring at the grimoire and then asks, "What's about with this one?"

[…You can't exchange this one, but an uncontracted grimoire, why not?]

'…Get it.'

Following this exchange between them, Devon did not hesitate to start his research to gain more benefits and tips from his system to understand how it works.

The more he learned, the greater his joy and hopes were.

Although his system seems to be direct and brief in its answers, his answers were nevertheless precise.

In the meantime, he also realized that he could earn evolution points without even realizing it.

As was the case when he jumped up on his feet.

[Alert! You have just killed an ant. You have earned 0.0001 evolution points.]

Those words almost made him lose his balance.

It was hilarious, for him, it was quite unexpected news. An ant he couldn't even see, which he had probably just crushed without knowing it, made him gain evolution points.

Of course, the amount was atrociously weak.

But what if he found an anthill housing a colony of ants?

This mere imagination gave him a wave of shivers down his spine.

Just like that, Mystic witnessed an amusing scene, watching Devon wandering around the lake while making strange gestures.

At first, the latter found it entertaining as if she was watching her kitten wandering around in search of entertainment.

She didn't know what Devon was doing, but she didn't stop him or think any further.

'His intelligence level is similar to that of a three-year-old.'

Both stayed near the lake for half an hour.

Mystic waited for her dress to dry, and Devon did his best to find new targets to consume.

After this time, Devon stopped, and stroked his bony chin, taking on a thoughtful look.

'It's exhausting and it takes too much time.' He concluded after a glance at his points.

[Evolution points: 2.9012]

He thinks for a moment,

'Even though I don't feel tired, my spiritual energy continues to decrease.'

Then he looked at Mystic who was no longer paying attention to him but was staring at the grimoire that only had three sheets containing texts.

Seeing her only dressed in an innocent red underwear set was spectacular to Devon.

'Huh? Is this body also altering my mind?'

Realizing that he felt nothing, not even a fragment of desire, this strange thought popped into his mind.

However, it didn't last.

-!

When he saw a fish leap above the lake and dive in, he stopped!

Even if it was only for a moment, his eyes like those of a predator were able to perceive his new target.
