Today's is a new day, I thought laying on my bed, it's been nineteen years since mum left us, at fifteen I have mastered the language of change in ways no one should have to. I was forced to grow up quickly, forced to fend for my brother and my self. What about dad?
The ringing of my phone pulled me out of my deep thought, speak of the devil, the name of my dad flashed on my phone screen.
"Yes"? I answered.
"Victoria why have you been ignoring my calls"?
"Nothing oo, I just no want talk to anybody, cus e no get any better thing wey you want tell me self" I replied in Nigerian pidgin English
"Ehhn Vicky naso e don reach"? You no come get respect again"?
With annoyance I ended the call. You can imagine this man oo. Since mum left he treated us like someone else's children. I practically took care of Benjamin and I. If you go to him for transport fare to school his response will be ''na Una mates them dey trek, I no get money"
My brother, Benji, wasn't much for words. He was twenty, fresh out of highschool. He grew up to be a fine young man, to me he will still my kid bro, he's smart and hardworking, he doesn't let our background affect him.
We only have each other to fend for, because to my dad his wife we are INVINCIBLE.
