Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Truth in the Mist

In the early morning, the ruins of the laboratory were shrouded in a thin mist, the air still lingering with the smell of burning. Allison and Silas stood beside the damaged instruments, silent for a long time. The events of last night replayed in her mind, surreal like a dream, yet the devastation of the lab was all too real.

"We need to figure out what happened last night," Silas broke the silence, his voice low. His gaze drifted over the debris scattered on the ground, his brow furrowed. "If it was a system failure, where's the problem? If not—" He paused, his eyes sweeping over every corner of the laboratory, "then how did the werewolf come into play?"

"I don't know," Allison said softly but firmly. She had her hands tucked in the pockets of her lab coat, calmly pondering. "But he didn't appear by chance. Look at his eyes, Silas. Those were not the eyes of a beast."

Silas's expression was complex as he sighed. "Allison, maybe we really touched something we shouldn't have. You know the risks of this experiment."

"Risks? This is far beyond the realm of risks," she shook her head, a strange feeling deep within her growing stronger. The appearance of that werewolf last night was not an accident; it was some kind of hidden omen. The curiosity that Allison could no longer suppress burned within her; she wanted to uncover the truth, even if it might bring greater danger.

They moved to the control console, and Silas opened the surveillance footage. He quickly pulled up segments from last night, the screen flashing images of the experiment starting normally. Everything appeared routine—equipment starting, energy flowing, light expanding… until the energy fluctuations suddenly spiraled out of control.

"Here," Silas pointed at the screen, his voice tense. "Look! He appeared right at this moment!"

The image flickered, revealing a blurred shadow at the center of the energy storm. Even with the low resolution of the video, Allison could still make out the tall outline—the very werewolf that had stood in the laboratory last night.

"How... did he get in?" Allison could hardly believe her eyes. "All entrances to the laboratory were sealed. No living being could enter without detection."

"I don't know," Silas's voice was dry. In the footage, the werewolf seemed to have materialized out of thin air, flickering in and out of visibility amidst the energy storm. Allison stared intently at those vaguely visible eyes, her heart racing—a familiar gaze gripped her once again.

The video ended, leaving the laboratory in chaos. Allison raised her head and looked at Silas. "This doesn't explain anything. How did the werewolf get here? Why was he at the center of the energy fluctuations?"

Silas remained silent for a moment, lightly tapping his fingers on the table. "We don't have a complete answer yet, but there's a direction we can investigate." He hesitated for a few seconds before finally speaking decisively. "There's a folder in the laboratory's database that I remember being encrypted. It might contain some records about werewolves and fiber technology."

Allison was taken aback. "Werewolves and fiber technology? That sounds absurd."

"Maybe," Silas shrugged. "But the things we've experienced have already surpassed the realm of reason, haven't they?"

They quickly accessed the laboratory's database, and after a few minutes of searching, they indeed found a hidden encrypted folder deep within the system. Allison's fingers flew over the keyboard, swiftly unlocking part of the content.

A series of complex texts and symbols flashed on the screen, and Allison and Silas exchanged glances, beginning to read carefully.

"These studies… involve ancient legends," Allison murmured, her finger tracing across the documents on the screen. "It mentions that werewolves are not just mythical beasts but a type of being closely related to fiber technology. They can alter their forms through special energy fields, even merging with modern technology."

"Merge with technology?" Silas frowned, clearly skeptical. "Are you saying that werewolves are not just creatures—they have some connection to the fiber technology we're researching?"

Allison didn't respond immediately; she was captivated by a drawing. It was an ancient scroll depicting a scene where a werewolf and energy lines intertwined. The werewolf stood on a bridge, surrounded by strange light that seemed remarkably similar to the energy storm in their experiment.

"This drawing... it looks almost identical to our experiment last night," Allison murmured, a mix of confusion and fear swirling within her. It felt as if she had suddenly glimpsed a hidden connection between the past and the present, and everything began to take on a certain meaning.

"This werewolf might be related to these ancient studies," she continued, her gaze still fixed on the scroll. "He isn't just an ordinary being; perhaps he is some existence we accidentally awakened during the experiment."

Selas's expression darkened, clearly reluctant to accept such a bizarre explanation, yet he could not deny the reality they faced.

"We must delve deeper into the contents of this folder," Selas's voice was low but firm. "Perhaps we can find more clues about the werewolf and fiber technology."

Allison nodded, having made up her mind. She couldn't stop now. Lucas Wolf, this suddenly appearing werewolf, surely harbored some secret. She needed to uncover his connection to this technology.

Days later, Allison visited the library, determined to continue digging into ancient texts. Her goal was to find more information about werewolves and fiber energy. In the library's rare books room, the scent of aged books filled the air, mingling with a sense of mysterious stillness. As she flipped through old manuscripts, she stumbled upon a yellowed handwritten book.

Between its pages lay a piece of aged parchment, covered with a drawing of an ancient scene. The image depicted a bridge with a werewolf standing poised above, surrounded by flickering lines of fiber energy.

Allison stared at the drawing, her heart racing. It was nearly identical to the one in the database. This bridge not only symbolized the fusion of the werewolf and technology but also represented a form of power. She couldn't help but think of Lucas's silhouette—his dignified and wise gaze—this was no coincidence.

She carefully folded the pages back and intended to leave. Just then, she heard soft footsteps behind her. Allison quickly turned around but saw no one. However, the feeling of being watched lingered. Her breath quickened, and her heart began to race.

The footsteps grew louder, this time much closer. Allison hastily returned the book to the shelf and pretended to remain calm as she exited the rare books room. She quickened her pace but felt the presence of someone following her closely.

Who was tracking her? What did they want?

Daring not to look back, she sprinted towards the library exit. The air felt increasingly heavy, and her questions multiplied in her mind.

As she burst out of the library, Allison swiftly turned around, only to find the street empty. That mysterious pursuer had vanished, just like the werewolf from last night—seemingly disappearing into thin air.

Standing in the night, a chilling unease welled up inside Allison. What exactly was that werewolf? What forces were hiding behind it? She knew she had stepped into a dangerous mystery, one that seemed to harbor more unknown secrets waiting to be unveiled. But she felt no fear. She needed to uncover everything, no matter the cost.

Allison stood outside the library, gazing down the street, countless questions swirling in her mind. Who was that mysterious stalker? What did he want? More importantly, what was his true identity?
