After years of neglect, the gargoyle's prowess should be weaker than what its level even suggested.
However, had Michael been impulsive back then because of his newly upgraded strength and went after the gargoyle, just to awaken these two strong gargoyles that were surprisingly very close by, he would have tasted his first death on the land of origin.
Thankfully, he had waited long enough to significantly grow to a stage where he could contend with them.
