Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: **Crossroads of Fate**

Sara hurried through the city streets, her mind spinning with a mixture of fear and determination. Kotis was their only chance, but even he couldn't see everything coming. Adrian's cold threat still echoed in her ears—deliver Kotis, or they'd both face the worst possible fate. She had to trust that Kotis had a plan, but how could they stay ahead of Adrian when it felt like they were constantly playing catch-up?

She approached their meeting spot, a narrow alley between two old apartment buildings. The shadows loomed large, making it feel as though danger could spring out at any moment. As Sara approached, she saw Kotis leaning against the wall, his eyes scanning the surroundings. When their gazes met, his usual calm demeanor was replaced with something more intense—something almost desperate.

"You okay?" he asked as she reached him.

"No. Adrian found me. He cornered me at the warehouse and gave me an ultimatum." She quickly recounted the encounter, her voice tight with urgency.

Kotis clenched his jaw, his fists tightening at his sides. "Damn it. We should've known he'd find us this quickly."

Sara took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice steady. "He's giving me until tomorrow to hand you over. If I don't… you know what'll happen."

Kotis shook his head, his eyes narrowing in thought. "He's toying with us. Adrian likes to give people a false sense of control before pulling the rug out from under them. But we're not going to play his game."

"Then what's the plan?" Sara asked, feeling her anxiety spike.

Kotis looked at her, his expression hard but resolute. "We need to disappear completely. I have a contact—a guy who specializes in making people vanish. If we go to him, he can set us up with new identities. Adrian won't be able to track us down."

Sara stared at him, her mind struggling to accept the reality of what he was saying. "So, we just run? Leave everything behind?"

Kotis nodded grimly. "It's the only way, Sara. You know we can't keep playing this cat-and-mouse game. Adrian's too connected. He'll find us eventually if we stay in the city."

Sara swallowed hard, the weight of his words settling heavily on her. "What about justice? What about everything we've fought for? If we run, Adrian wins."

Kotis looked away, his voice thick with frustration. "I know. But staying means we lose our lives. If we go underground, we'll live to fight another day."

Sara's mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. On one hand, she wanted nothing more than to take Adrian down and bring his criminal empire crashing to the ground. But on the other hand, she couldn't deny the danger that was closing in around them. Adrian had proven time and time again that he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.

Just then, a soft thud echoed in the alley behind them. Both Kotis and Sara spun around, their senses on high alert. Someone was there.

"Show yourself!" Kotis barked, his hand instinctively moving to the knife hidden in his jacket.

From the shadows, a figure emerged, slowly raising their hands in a gesture of peace. It was a woman, dressed in a dark coat, her features partially obscured by a hood. Her voice was low and measured.

"You're in more danger than you think," she said, her tone calm despite the tension in the air.

Sara exchanged a confused glance with Kotis. "Who are you?" she demanded.

The woman stepped closer, pulling back her hood to reveal sharp features and cold, calculating eyes. "My name is Elena. I'm not with Adrian, but I know what he's planning."

Kotis tensed, clearly not trusting this new arrival. "How do you know anything about Adrian? And why should we believe you?"

Elena glanced between them, her face showing no emotion. "Because I used to work for him. And now I want to take him down as much as you do."

Sara felt her breath catch in her throat. "You worked for him? Why would you help us now?"

Elena's lips twisted into a bitter smile. "Let's just say I've seen what happens to those who think they're indispensable to Adrian. I was one of his top enforcers, but even I wasn't safe. He tried to get rid of me when I became too much of a threat to his control. I barely made it out alive."

Kotis studied her warily. "And you think we should trust you?"

Elena met his gaze, her eyes hard. "I don't care if you trust me. But I can help you. If you want to bring Adrian down, I have information—secrets that could cripple his entire operation. But if you run now, you'll never get another chance."

Sara's pulse quickened. "What kind of secrets?"

Elena took a step closer, lowering her voice. "Adrian's network is bigger than you realize. He's got politicians, cops, and even federal agents in his pocket. But there's one person—someone high up—that he's been keeping in the shadows. If you expose this person, Adrian's empire crumbles."

Kotis crossed his arms, his skepticism clear. "And why haven't you done it yourself?"

Elena's jaw tightened. "Because I need leverage. Adrian still has people hunting me. I help you, and in exchange, you help me disappear for good."

Sara felt the weight of the decision pressing down on her. She turned to Kotis, seeing the conflict in his eyes. They could run, vanish, and live to see another day. Or they could trust this stranger and risk everything in one final attempt to bring Adrian down.

"What do you think?" she whispered, her heart pounding in her chest.

Kotis glanced at Elena, then back at Sara. "I think this is the best shot we'll ever have to stop him. But it's dangerous. If we fail…"

"We won't," Sara interrupted, her voice filled with a sudden surge of determination. "We've come this far. We can't give up now."

Kotis studied her face for a moment, then nodded. "Alright. Let's hear what she has to say."

Elena's expression softened slightly, as if she hadn't expected them to agree so quickly. "Good. But we have to move fast. Adrian is planning something big, and if we don't stop him soon, none of us will survive what comes next."

Sara's stomach twisted with anticipation. The stakes had just been raised higher than ever, and now they were walking a razor's edge between victory and disaster.
