Chapter 15 - Argon's Surprise

When Eugene had the automobile settled and parked, the four of them alighted and walked over to the front the building. Up close, it was not too shabby, but it was still many notches below what Eugene and Gustavo were used to. Gustavo was not too bothered. Before he came under the service of Eugene's father, he had seen worse. As for Eugene, he had spent his entire life living in the palace, so he was used to much more luxury than this. Still, he wasn't complaining.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The moment Felix walked up to the door, he immediately started banging on it like a madman.

"Hold your horses! I'm coming!" A deep voice came from the other side and the door swung open, revealing a young, dark skinned man with a burly build. He looked quite young, just like Felix, despite his large build. His eyes were bright and brown.

"Oh, Felix. Hello, who are you? Does he owe you any money?" The boy was direct and straight forward.

"No, he doesn't owe us money." Eugene was a bit taken aback by the direct question, but luckily, Gustavo stepped forward and spoke up.

"Wowww, so that's how lowly you think of me? I don't owe them any money, thank you very much. I just owe them a place to stay for the night because they helped me get back to the city." Felix folded his arms and rolled his eyes.

"Oh, shut up, Felix. We both know how you are." The boy rolled his eyes. Then he turned to Eugene and the others. "Hello, I apologize for having put up with my brother here for however long you put up with him. Please, come in. It's not much, but you will have to manage for tonight." The young man moved his large body out of the way and waved them in.

"Thank you. Sorry for intruding." Gustavo gave a light smile as he walked in behind Felix. May and Eugene followed behind him, and the thing that stood out to them immediately was how small the house was.

"It's fine. Not the first time it's happening. By the way, the name is Dane. Nice to meet you all." The dark skinned boy, Dane, introduced himself.

"I'm Gustavo, this is Eugene, and the girl is May." Gustavo spoke on their behalf as he looked around. They had walked straight into a living area with one couch and two single seats placed adjacent each other. At the far left, there was a fireplace, and the three chairs were all facing it. The place was a bit tight, but not too much. There was a path leading deeper into the house.

"Sorry, but there is not much space here, as you can see. You will have to make do with the chairs here." Dane seemed tired as he said all this. He quickly left, leaving Felix to deal with everything else.

"Ehh, sorry about Dane. He's just tired. I'll leave you guys to rest now. Goodnight." Felix said with a stiff laugh before following after Dane.

"I can't believe they are just leaving us to ourselves here." Eugene said after a moment of shock.

"They have either been in this situation many times, or just don't care." Gustavo sighed and looked around. He walked to one of the chairs to the side and sat down with a grunt. "We should get settled and be ready to move tomorrow. We might reach out to the king of Tahan if it is possible and request for his help."

"You're right. The king of Tahan should be able to help." Eugene nodded and took a seat on the single couch. May took the other chair.

Like that, the night passed quietly.

Meanwhile, as Eugene was sleeping, another being was up and busy within his mind.

Argon's eyes were wide as he meandered about in Eugene's mental space. Unlike the usual mental space that humans and most other beings possessed, this one was much more different.

A human's mental space would usually be represented by a vast body of water, with several items floating above the water to represent the individual's character.

But Eugene's 'Sea of Consciousness' was much different. Instead of a vast sea, an endless desert spread out in all directions. Strong, dry winds blew through the desert, stirring up clouds of sand that hovered in the air.

Argon had been walking for several hours now, trying to locate the core of Eugene's mind, but was nowhere closer.

"You have to be kidding me! Isn't he just a human! I can compare this mental space with that of a Demon Archduke!" He complained.

Whoosh!

A powerful wind blew through Argon's illusory body, making him grunt as he tried harder to keep himself steady. He was still badly injured from his battle with Mundo earlier, and should have been resting, but this was more important.

"Come on! Reveal yourself to me!" He used his own injured, but still formidable mind, to stir up the desert in the hopes of locating the core of Eugene's mind.

Fortunately for him, it worked!

The force of his mind stirred out an enormous amount of sand, displacing it entirely. He waved his arms, clearing away the hazy sand and dust. When his vision cleared up, he was left frozen in shock.

"You have got to be kidding me!"

In the middle of a giant hole that had been dug out by Argon's will, there was a small patch of lush and fertile land. A single tree was growing on that land.

Argon slowly walked closer to the depression, unable to believe his eyes.

"I thought you were dead!" He called out to the figure sitting beside the tree, and the person opened their eyes.

"Haha, Argon. It seems we think alike. Those humans must be right when they say 'Great minds think alike'."

At the base of the tree, a familiar Demon was sitting. He was the Demon Archduke that Argon had fought to the death shortly before Mundo attacked him!
