Chereads / Soldat, Captain, Asset / Chapter 21 - 2.11: The Fight

Chapter 21 - 2.11: The Fight

Later at the Triskelion where the Helicarriers are being held. The space is vast and wide, brightly lit and a hive of activity as people go back and forth, getting ready to activate Project Insight. "We are in final launch sequence." A deep voice on the PA says, getting everyone's attention for a moment.

In the control station, multiple people are doing the final checks on the Helicarriers. "We are go on guidance." They say.

"All personnel to launch station." A female voice announces over the PA system.

— — — — —

Meanwhile at the entrance to the Triskelion, Pierce is meeting the World Security Council as they arrive at the Triskelion. They are all wearing suits as Pierce walks up to them, the man, likely a guard, standing behind them holding a briefcase. "And how was your flight?" Pierce asks them, looking over at all of them, smiling ever so slightly when he notices Sasha taking Sitwell's place in the meeting.

"Lovely." Hawley replies. "The ride from the airport less so." She admits, looking away slightly.

"Sadly, SHIELD can't control everything." Pierce replies dryly, trying to give them some humour.

"Including Captain America." Rockwell reminds him, his eyes firm and looking at him.

Pierce doesn't reply at his remark, walking over to one of the guards who hands him a case containing four pins. "This facility is biometrically controlled, and these will give you unrestricted access." Pierce explains handing to them. He looks over at Sasha. "I take it you are already wearing yours?" She nods, showing a pin that is ever so slightly different from the others.

— — — — —

Meanwhile in the project headquarters, agents are getting every set up for liftoff. "I've been parking there for two months." One of the techs says, talking casually with his co-worker to pass the time.

"But it's his spot." The co-worker argues.

"So where's he been?" He asks.

"I think Afghanistan."

The technician leans towards the microphone. "Negative, DT-6. The pattern is full." He informs whoever is listening before looking back at his colleague. "Well, he could have said something…" He groans slightly, lifting his hand up to his ear when he hears a sharp noise come through the ear piece. "Ow!"

"Must be the dish." The other one remarks.

"I'll check it out." He says.

"Triskelion command request we clear the area for launch." A voice says.

The tech stands up from his seat, stretching slightly. He walks over to the door and opens it up, coming face to face with Steve, Sam and Hill, the latter of the three pointing their guns at him. "Excuse us." Steve says firmly and the tech holds his hands up and steps aside to let them enter, watching them go towards the command desk, his breathing quick.

— — — — —

Meanwhile, on one of the upper levels, Pierce is talking with the World Security Council. "I know the road hasn't exactly been smooth, and some of you would have gladly kicked me out of the car along the way." He tells them, and Sasha makes the smallest smile at the reference. "Finally we're here, and the world should be grateful."

— — — — —

As this is happening, Steve looks over the command desk. Steve looks at the controls for the PA and leans forward, pressing the button to activate the microphone. "Attention, all SHIELD agents. This is Steve Rogers." Steve starts to say over the PA system, his voice not fully commanding, but more motivating and kind than firm. "You've heard a lot about me over the last few days, some of you were even ordered to hunt me down. But I think it's time you know the truth. SHIELD is not what we thought it was, it's been taken over by HYDRA. Alexander Pierce is their leader. The STRIKE and Insight crew are HYDRA as well. I don't know how many more, but I know they're in the building. They could be standing right next to you. They almost have what they want: absolute control. They shot Nick Fury and it won't end there. If you launch those Helicarriers today, HYDRA will be able to kill anyone that stands in their way, unless we stop them. I know I'm asking a lot, but the price of freedom is high, it always has been, and it's a price I'm willing to pay. And if I'm the only one, then so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not."

Sam looks over at him, a cheeky grin on his face. "Did you write that down first, or was it off the top of your head?" Sam laughs but Steve doesn't reply, backing away from the control desk.

— — — — —

Meanwhile, in the council meeting, Rockwell looks over at Pierce, his eyes darkening. "You smug son of a bitch." Rockwell tells him.

Singh looks over at the two agents walking into the room. "Arrest him." Singh orders, believing that the agents are members of Shield but in actuality they are members of Hydra. The Hydra agents quickly draw their weapons on Singh.

Pierce smiles and looks at Sasha and whispers some words into her ears, her eyes glazing over before looking back to the front. "Солдат, расслабься и не вступай в бой (Russian: Soldier, at ease and don't engage)." He says outloud, not caring if the others heard and looks at the council members, avoiding their looks of shock when he speaks in perfect Russian. Sasha nods, standing near the Pierce in an almost protective stance. "I guess we've got the floor."

— — — — —

On one of the other floors, Rumlow and his men break into the control room, where Agent 13 also is. She watches as Rumlow walks over to one of the techs, his grips tight and by his holster, not playing any games. "Preempt the launch sequence." Rumlow orders harshly, his grip tightening. "Send those ships up now." He looks down at the tech, who hesitates, his hands not moving, scared. "Is there a problem?"

"I'm…" He tries to speak but in his fear no words come out so she just shakes his head nervously, gulping.

"Is there a problem?" Rumlow repeats.

"I'm sorry, sir." The tech apologises. He leans forward slightly, his hands over the control as he takes a few nervous breaths. He waits a moment but before he types anything in he places his hands to the side. "I'm not gonna launch those ships. Captain's orders." He looks forward, his hands sweaty with fear, fear which only increases when Rumlow points a gun at his head, almost touching the back of his scalp.

"Move away from your station." Rumlow orders the man, gripping his shoulder, prepared to do it forcefully when Agent 13 walks over to Rumlow pointing her gun at him, pointing it right at his head, leaving them in a two point hold.

"Like he said!" Sharon says firmly, her finger a hair pull away from firing the weapon, the other Shield agents following suit and pointing their firearms at Rumlow's head. "Captain's orders."

"You picked the wrong side, Agent." Rumlow warns, his voice dark and harsh.

"Depends on where you're standing." Sharon replies, not looking scared at how he is trying to threaten her. Rumlow drops his gun almost as if he is surrendering but as he does he grabs his knife and cuts Agent 13's arm, leading to the SHIELD agents firing their guns in retaliation. Amidst the bullets, Rumlow manages to release the Helicarriers and runs off.

— — — — —

Down by the hangar bays, the upper door is starting to open as the take off sequence is overrun by Rumlow in the control room. "Close the bay door!" An agent orders, his voice loud and forceful as he runs across the hangar. "Close the bay door now! Close the bay door!" As he shouts, Hydra agents start to flood into the bay, their guns poised and shooting at the technicians and crew.

"They're initiating launch." Hill said over Steve and Sam's radio, watching from the control room as the authorisation is overrode.

At this, Sam and Steve start to run much quicker, Sam activating his wings in order to keep up with Steve's enhanced speed. "Hey, Cap, how do we know the good guys from the bad guys?" He asks, looking at the agents, both Shield and Hydra wearing the same uniform.

"If they're shooting at you, they're bad." Steve answers, looking up at Sam. Sam is wearing his Falcon suit, his wings spread out wide as he sores in the air like second-nature. He flies upwards while Steve heads down as Hydra agents shoot at them. Sam and Steve dodge their ammunition as they try and slow the two from making their way to the Helicarriers.

"Hey, Cap, I found those bad guys you were talking about." Sam jokes.

"You okay?" Steve asks, slightly concerned.

Sam flies off, missing the bullets being fired, making his way to one of the Helicarriers. "I'm not dead yet." He remarks, a slight hint of humour in his voice.

— — — — —

Pierce watches from the window the commotion caused by Steve and Sam trying to stop the Helicarriers launching, he clenches his fist before he turns to Singh. He looks at the man in the eyes, his body still half-turned towards the window. "Let me ask you a question." Pierce tells him. "What if Pakistan marched into Mumbai tomorrow, and you knew that they were gonna drag your daughters into a soccer stadium for execution?" He walks over to the man and hands him a glass of champagne. "And you could just stop it with a flick of the switch. Wouldn't you? Wouldn't you all?" He looks at the others standing in the room.

"Not if it was your switch." Singh answered darkly, throwing the glass aside. One of the Hydra agents hands Pierce his gun and he points it over at Singh, turning the safely off. Before he could take the shot, Hawley kicks Singh away and quickly takes down the other Hydra agents in the room. She removes the mask on her face, showing that it's actually Natasha before taking off her wig. She takes one of her guns and points it at Pierce, the other pointed at Sasha's chest, refusing to take the girl like the other Hydra agents. She was like her, and she was just a victim, she didn't deserve to die.

Sasha's face is emotionless as she holds a gun to Natasha, standing slightly in front of Pierce like she is programmed to do, her stance never wavering. Natasha barely registers the threat, knowing that Sasha isn't likely to actually pull the trigger. "I'm sorry. Did I step on your moment?" She taunts, a slight smile on her face.

— — — — —

On the control desk, one of the weapon techs working for Hydra is looking at the states on the monitor. "Satellites in range at three thousand feet." He informs them.

"Falcon, status?" Hill asks hurryingly, tapping her comlink.

"Engaging." Sam answers as he quickly flies into a Helicarrier as Hydra jets chase after him. "Alright, Cap, I'm in." Just then another HYDRA jet heads his way and starts shooting at him. "Shit!" Sam manages to fly off and avoid getting hit, meanwhile Steve is fighting off the HYDRA agents as he tries to get inside the Helicarrier.

"Eight minutes, Cap." Hill warns.

"Working on it." Steve answers.

— — — — —

Rockwell looks over at Natasha as she types into a computer. "What are you doing?" Rockwell asks her, not moving from his spot in fear that he would be shot as well.

"She's disabling security protocols and dumping all the secrets onto the Internet." Pierce informs Rockwell after Natasha doesn't answer the question.

"Including HYDRA's." Natasha replies, like a warning.

"And SHIELD's." He reminds her, his hands crossed over his chest. "If you do this, none of your past is gonna remain hidden." He takes a step closer to her, looking her in the eyes. Natasha continues typing into the computer, ignoring what he is saying. "Are you sure you're ready for the world to see you as you really are?"

Natasha looks over at him and glances at Sasha before back at him. "Are you?" She retorts.

— — — — —

Steve enters the control centre for the first Helicarrier, walking over to the rack and switching out one of the chips with the normal one before closing it back. "Alpha locked." Steve informed over the comms.

"Falcon, where are you now?" Hill asked.

"I had to take a detour!" Sam calls, flying towards one of the Helicarriers when heat-seeking missiles are shot at him by HYDRA, so he flies back towards the Helicarrier and manages to get the missiles that were aimed at him to hit the Helicarrier giving him entrance. "Oh, yeah!" He cheers. Sam flies into the Helicarrier, right over to the command module. "I'm in." He tells them as he switches the chips. "Bravo locked." Sam then quickly flies out of the carrier.

"Two down, one to go." Hill replied.

"All SHIELD pilots, scramble." An agent over the PA. "We're the only air support Captain Rogers has got." He reminds them when suddenly the Winter Soldier appears and starts firing at the SHIELD pilots and agents, killing them swiftly. He then gets into one of the jets and flies off towards the remaining Helicarrier still under Hydra control.

— — — — —

"Disabling the encryption is an executive order, it takes two Alpha Level members." Pierce reminds Natasha. "And Sasha doesn't have, even if she did she's mine to command."

"Don't worry, company's coming." Natasha smiles knowing as the sound of helicopter blades can be heard coming from outside, it landing on the landing pad just outside the room they are in. The blades stop spinning and Fury steps out the helicopter, quickly entering into the building.

Pierce looks over at him in shock. "Did you get my flowers?" Pierce says but Fury just looks at him coldly. "I'm glad you're here, Nick." He lies.

"Really?" Fury replies sternly. "Cause I thought you had me killed."

"You know how the game works." Pierce retorts.

"So why make me head of SHIELD?" Fury asked.

"Cause you were the best and the most ruthless person I ever met." Pierce answers.

"I did what I did to protect people." Fury reminds him.

"Our enemies are your enemies, Nick." Pierce explains, walking closer to him, Sasha's weapon just lower than Fury's head, ready to shoot at a moment's notice. "Disorder, war. It's just a matter of time before a dirty bomb goes off in Moscow, or an EMP fries Chicago. Diplomacy? Holding action, a band-aid. And you know where I learned that; Bogota." Fury's eye widen knowingly. "You didn't ask, you just did what had to be done. I can bring order to the lives of seven billion people by sacrificing twenty million. It's the next step, Nick, if you have the courage to take it."

"No, I have the courage not to." Fury tells him. He takes Pierce to the retinal scanner with Natasha pointing her gun at him. He forces him beside the scanner.

"𝚁𝚎𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚊𝚕 𝚜𝚌𝚊𝚗𝚗𝚎𝚛 𝚊𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚎."

"You don't you think we wiped your clearance from the system?" Pierce asks him.

"I know you erased my password, probably deleted my retinal scan, but if you want to stay ahead of me, Mr. Secretary…" Fury starts to say before lifting up his eyepatch, showing his scarred and dead eye. "You need to keep both eyes open." They both look into the retinal scanner.

"𝙰𝚕𝚙𝚑𝚊 𝙻𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚕 𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚏𝚒𝚛𝚖𝚎𝚍. 𝙴𝚗𝚌𝚛𝚢𝚙𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗 𝚌𝚘𝚍𝚎 𝚊𝚌𝚌𝚎𝚙𝚝𝚎𝚍. 𝚂𝚊𝚏𝚎𝚐𝚞𝚊𝚛𝚍𝚜 𝚛𝚎𝚖𝚘𝚟𝚎𝚍."

— — — — —

"Charlie Carrier's forty-five degrees off the port bow." Hill warns them urgently. Her eyes dart down and she notices two HYDRA agents making a break into the headquarters so she shoots and kills them as they enter, keeping her safe enough inside. "Six minutes."

— — — — —

Steve is trying to get away from the HYDRA agents shooting at him on the Helicarrier. "Hey, Sam, I'm gonna need a ride." Steve tells him.

"Roger! Let me know when you're ready." He answers and Steve just manages to jump off the edge as a HYDRA agent shoots a missile at him, falling in the sky.

"I just did!" Sam said, panicked and Sam flew in just in time to catch Steve, slinging his arms under his shoulders. Sam flies himself and Steve onto the last Helicarrier.

"You know, you're a lot heavier than you look." Sam remarks playfully.

"I had a big breakfast." Steve chuckles when suddenly the Winter Soldier appears and pushes Steve off the edge of the Helicarrier.

"Steve!" Sam cries out and as Sam goes to fly off and help Steve, the Asset grabs one of his wings and throws him back. Sam starts shooting at him and as he goes to fly off the Asset uses his weapon to rip off one of Sam's wings and kicks him off the Helicarrier. Sam manages to get his parachute out and lands on the roof of the Triskelion, breathing heavily. "Cap? Cap, come in. Are you okay?" He asks, pressing his comm.

Steve is holding onto the side of the Helicarrier tightly, his knuckles white with the deathgrip he has, making sure he doesn't fall. "Yeah, I'm here!" Steve answers. "I'm still on the Helicarrier." He pulls himself up, standing in a half-crouch, making his way inside the Helicarrier. "Where are you?"

"I'm grounded, the suit's down. Sorry, Cap." Sam apologises.

"Don't worry, I got it." Steve reassures him. He goes inside. The Winter Soldier watches Steve from above the Helicarrier, his eyes tracing his movements.

— — — — —

As everyone at the Triskelion is rushing around trying to evacuate the building Rumlow fights and kills some SHIELD agents. "All SHIELD agents regroup at Rally Point Delta." One of the agents orders only to be quickly killed by Rumlow shooting him in the head and then killing another three agents.

"Sir, Council's been breached." The Hydra agent said over the radio.

"Repeat, dispatch." Rumlow replied..

"Black Widow's up there." He informs him.

"Headed up!" Rumlow order.

— — — — —

Hill notices Rumlow on the monitor, her eyes widening and she picks up her radio. "Falcon?" Hill asks, her mouth near the mic.

"Yeah?" Sam answers.

"Rumlow's headed for the Council." Hill informs him quickly.

"I'm on it." Sam replied.

— — — — —

Inside the Helicarrier Steve is confronted by the Winter Soldier. They are both standing on the large walkway connected to the command module, below them are giant pieces of glass curving up to the front of the ship. The Asset looks at Steve blankly, his mask and goggles off so that Steve is looking into the eyes of a friend that doesn't even recognise him and it breaks his heart inside. "People are gonna die, Buck. I can't let that happen." He tells him, wanting to be able to negotiate but he doesn't answer. "Please, don't make me do this."

The Winter Soldier doesn't reply and doesn't make a move to surrender, his blank eyes going to look at him. Steve sighs, his heart breaking, his face falls with pity before he pushes it aside in order to do his job. He throws his shield at him and they start battling each other, as they fight Steve manages to bring up the targeting blade system, but as Bucky attacks him the chip falls from Steve's hand.

— — — — —

"Done." Natasha says, looking down at her mobile device. "And it's trending." She smiles slightly. Just then Pierce sets off the pins he gave the council members, causing it to burn deeply into their sternum, Natasha and Fury point their guns at Pierce, the barrel levelled with their heads.

"Unless you want a two inch hole in your sternum, I'd put that gun down." Pierce warns but Natasha doesn't back down, not taking him on the threat. "That was armed the moment you pinned it on." He says slowly and Fury and Natasha reluctantly lower their weapons, looking in the eyes.

— — — — —

Back at the Helicarrier as they are battling it out, the Winter Soldier stabs Steve in the shoulder with his knife and then grabs the fallen chip. Just as he is about to pocket it Steve manages to get the knife out, ripping it out of the skin causing blood to drip down his uniform and grab him by the throat and throw him down in an armlock, his grip tight. "Drop it!" Steve orders. "Drop it!" As the Asset continues to hold the chip, Steve breaks his arm and holds it against his throat tightly until he passes out and lets go of the chip, it falling out of his hand onto the ground. Steve then grabs the chip and rushes off.

— — — — —

"I'm on forty-one, headed towards the south-west stairwell." Rumlow says as he runs down the corridors in the office section part of the Triskelion. As he does so, Sam attacks Rumlow but Rumlow manages to knock Sam down, his hold tight. "This is gonna hurt. There are no prisoners with HYDRA, just order. And order only comes through pain. You ready for yours?"

"Man, shut the hell up." Sam spits at him, throwing him off of his body and they both go to attack each other again, fighting relentlessly.

— — — — —

"Lieutenant, how much longer?" Pierce asks over the radio.

"Sixty-five seconds to satellite link." They reply. "Targeting grid engaged. Lowering weapons array now."

Hill's eyes widen as he says that, watching the stats of the ships on the monitor. "One minute." She tells Steve over the radio as he desperately tries to get back up to the Helicarriers to get to the targeting system. The Winter Soldier becomes conscious and shoots at Steve in the left thigh and then the right shoulder, the bullets lodging themself and causing blood to spill out but Steve still manages to climb up, gritting his teeth, his movements slower. "Thirty seconds, Cap!"

"Stand by." Steve answers as he weakly gets the chip out of his utility belt. "Charlie…" His voice is cut off when the Asset shoots Steve in the stomach, causing him to fall, leaning against the control tower, his hand over the bullet wound.

"We've reached three thousand feet. Sat link coming online now." The tech says from where he sits on the bridge.

"Deploy algorithm." Someone else replies.

"Algorithm deployed." They replied.

"We are go to targets." Pierce says over the radio and Hill watches as the weapons are being targeted at Washington, the White house, the Pentagon, Stark Tower, aiming to kill over 700,000 people.

"Target saturation reached. All targets assigned." The lieutenant says.

"Fire when ready." His assistant confirmed.

"Firing in, three, two…" The tech says, on the other end Steve manages to slip the right chip into the Helicarrier's targeting blade, overriding the whole system and locking it down. "...one." He finishes, not even realising what had happened.

"Charlie locked." Steve says weakly into the radio and Hill smiles as she watches the targets on the monitor go offline.

"Where are the targets? Where are the targets?" The assistant asks frantically.

"Okay, Cap, get out of there." Hill warns, setting the Helicarrier's weapon system to open fire on each other in order to destroy them.

"Fire now." Steve orders, his voice raspy.

"But, Steve…" Hill tries to argue.

"Do it! Do it now!" Steve shouts, his voice leaving no room for argument, sounding completely certain. Reluctantly Hill makes the Helicarriers open fire on each other,

— — — — —

Pierce watches as the Helicarriers start to fall towards the ocean in front of the Triskelion. "What a waste." He remarks distastefully, his hands grasped behind his back as he watches it all go down.

"Are you still on the fence about Rogers' chances?" Natasha asks smugly.

"Time to go, Councilwoman." He looks over at Sasha. "Ты тоже, солдат. (Russian: You too, soldier)." "This way, come on. You're gonna fly me out of here." As Pierce starts to leave with Natasha, Fury calls out.

"You know, there was a time I would have taken a bullet for you." Fury remarked and Pierce turns around to see Sasha standing nearer Fury than Pierce, having not moved from where he was standing, her gun pointed at Pierce instead.

"You already did." Pierce chuckles. "You will again when it's useful." Just then Natasha activates a small disc that emits an electric shock through her whole body and disables the pin, this gives Fury a chance to shoot Pierce, which he does so twice, Fury then walks over to Natasha who is lying unconscious on the floor.

"Romanoff! Natasha! Natasha, come on!" He shouts, tapping the side of her face to try and rouse her.

Natasha groans slightly and opens her eyes. "Ow. Those really do sting." She grunts, talking about the widow bites she used.

Pierce watches the Helicarriers fall outside the window, crashing into the ocean before his view is obstructed by Sasha standing above him, her gun pointed at his chest. "My name was Yawa, you took that from me." Sa… Yawa says. "Not Soldat, Yawa." She fires the gun directly into his heart, revenge in her eyes when she does it.

Pierce takes a raspy breath. "Hail HYDRA." He says before his head falls back, lolling to the side, his eyes still wide open, his body going completely still. Yawa nudges him with her foot and smiles when she notices that he is definitely dead.

— — — — —

"You're out of your depth, kid." Rumlow warns, standing in the offices when suddenly the first Helicarrier crashes into the Triskelion, catching Rumlow in the destruction and his body is dragged away.

Sam steps back slightly as he watches before quickly running towards the window when the room continues to get destroyed, leaving less and less area for him to stay in. "Please, tell me you got that chopper in the air!" Sam shouts desperately.

"Sam, where are you?" Natasha asks.

"41st floor, north-west corner!" Sam answers, continue to run.

"We're on it, stay where you are." Natasha tells him.

Sam desperately tries to get away from the destruction the Helicarrier is causing to the building, his strides becoming larger in an attempt to cover more ground. "Not an option!" He shouts. He makes it to the edge of the floor and leaps out of the building, having no other option than to do so. As the building is being destroyed Sam jumps out of the window as Natasha and Fury fly their chopper barely in time to catch him below, a black hand grabbing him and pulling him up, Yawa smiling at Sam.

"41st floor! 41st!" Sam replies breathlessly.

"It's not like they put the floor numbers on the outside of the building!" Fury calls from the cockpit.

"Hill, where's Steve? You got a location on Rogers?" She asks over the radio.

— — — — —

Back in the third Helicarrier, Steve helps the Winter Soldier out from being trapped under some rubble, because even if he needs to fight him, he doesn't want him to die. Not again, he couldn't bear it. He looks at him, not wanting to fight him anymore. "You know me." Steve tells him, almost pleading with him.

"NO, I DON'T!" He shouts before lashing out at Steve, punching him in the face.

"Bucky...you've known me your whole life." Steve argues, his voice desperate and small. He hits at him again and Steve does nothing to fight back, letting him lash out because he doesn't want to fight his best friend. "Your name...is James Buchanan Barnes."

"SHUT UP!!!" He screams before hitting Steve again, leaving him weakened and bruised, his left eye nearly swollen shut but still not fighting back.

"I'm not gonna fight you." Steve replies, taking off his mask so he can look him in the eyes in the hope that he can recognise the man staring back. He then lets his arm go lax, his shield falling from him grip and out of the broken glass of the Helicarrier, falling directly into the ocean, showing him that he's unarmed and defenceless, not scared of the man in front of him, not scared of the ghost that is the Winter Soldier. "You're my friend."

The Winter Soldier hesitates slightly, his hands hanging by his side as he looks at the man in front of him. He takes in his dirty blond hair and the old-style Captain America costume that Steve nabbed from the museum. His hands flex slightly, the eyes slightly more brown before going back to being glazed and running at him, tackling him to the ground. "You're my mission." He argues, his mind conflicted and confused. He punches him in the face harshly and repeatedly. "YOU'RE. MY. MISSION!"

"Then finish it…" Steve replies weakly, watching as the Winter Soldier hesitantly holds up his fist, ready to strike him. "...because I'm with you...to the end of the line." He looks him in the eyes as Bucky fights through the Winter Soldier's mindset, his hand hovering in the air but not coming down to hurt him. Bucky looks at Steve as if he's starting to remember… all the suppressed memories of his life flickering slightly inside his head, trying to come through. The few words are a thread that's unravelling and weaving into his mind. Just as he was about to say something else a piece from the roof strikes the bottom of the Helicarrier, causing it along with Steve to fall down into the river below as Bucky watches from the Helicarrier.

Steve floats downwards in the water, unresponsive when a metal hand plunges down and grabs him tightly, dragging him out of the water and onto the shore. He drops his body and gives him a small glance before walking away, his body hands in his pockets and his head bowed down slightly, quickly disappearing, leaving Steve alone on the shore, unconscious.
