Chapter 21 - chapter 21

Percy lay recovering his breath as he searched for his glasses, his smooth hands rubbing through the dirt. The blurry scene was silent; from what he could tell, he was alone.

Mapping his glasses onto his face he quickly proved that Theory; Percy began to get up covered in dry dirt. Turning his head quickly, he heard a voice. No two, he corrected himself, confused when he caught Ronin's jagged figure swinging the bat at the ground; the mumbling got louder as Ronin threw the bat, gripping his head.

Percy continued to stare behind the fence almost afraid of what would happen if he left.

That thought had fled quickly as Percy leaped from the ground immediately, rushing over to Ronin whose palm had begun to hit himself, and the once mumbling had gotten louder.

Percy grabbed his arm, meeting Ronin's eyes coated in an almost red tint.

Something was wrong.

Ronin wanted to run, but his legs didn't move. He could feel Percy's hand on his arm but he didn't wanna look.

He had hurt him, as his mind had told him over again. Each time is worse.

He hated when his mind would race, and point out the obvious.

His fists clenched the dirt between his fingers. Hee could hear Percy's voice clearly, another apology.

Another apology he could never

Believe me, the horrified look on Percy's face had reminded him of what he had done as if he hadn't known already.

He could feel everything inside him rising, his own voice getting louder. Tried to cover his ears, restrained by Percy's warm hand.

Ronin shook his head attempting to break Percy's comfort; Ronin slammed his head against the gravel.

He could only hear the heavy wheezing that echoed from his throat, he couldn't feel Percy's hand on him anymore.

He had scared him away, he knew it; he had always tried not to let others in, for even he hated what was inside.

Reality began to set in before being interrupted as Percy's light figure settled next to him. Once again, he felt Percy's warm hand, this time across Ronin's built back.

Ronin's breath had returned to normal, only the part he hated came next, the part he despised.

"Why?" Ronin asked, lacking the tone of a real question and rather confused.

He lifted his head from the ground, meeting Percy's eyes again; he longed for an answer.

"Why do you care?" He could tell Ronin wanted to sound snippy as he only came off scared.

"Because you're my friend," Percy answered, an unknown confidence with it.

"No, I'm not; I'm a fucking mess," Ronin's voice began to shake.

"A fucking mess!?" He let his head fall between his legs afraid as he could feel what would happen next.

Percy began to speak, changing his answer to a stutter. "Maybe," he said, catching Ronin's attention.

"But isn't everybody a mess at one point or another?"

He watched as Ronin turned his head towards him; his eyes were coated in a thick layer of water, waiting to break.

"Not you" Ronin snorted before sniffling it back up.

Percy didn't know what to respond with, it bothered him.

Ronin wasn't surprised; if anything, he expected it.

"I-I just...it always happens to me." Ronin managed to try and explain something, but he only continued when Percy anticipated his next words.

"I just start thinking and..and it never stops" At this point the thick layer had broken a wave of held-back tears with it

Percy sat intrigued, he wanted to comfort him in any way.

He had only been used to comforting wren, and this was a different kind of comfort needed.

"Why can't it stop!" Ronin barely spat out between the thick tears that rolled down over his mouth.

"Have you talked to your dad about it?" Percy asked trying to provide anything to help him.

"No" Ronin had stated plainly before urging himself to continue. "He doesn't listen to fucking word I say" he tried to be stern.

"And he hasn't ever since she left" Ronin knew he was right. The scene grew quiet, only his brief sniffle.

"She being your mother?" Percy asked cautiously, hoping he hadn't gone too far.

"She's not my mother, never was" Ronin snarled under his breath.

He gripped his dirty uniform, "she didn't care about anything but the shit she drunk"

Ronin's wet eyes tried to calm.

Percy started to speak but quickly interrupted

"They took her away, Percy," Ronin snapped, beginning to cry again.

"They took my fucking mother away," Ronin said, defeated. Percy watched as Ronin showed both hatred and love for the same topic; it confused him.

"I'm sorry," Percy said, watching Ronin, who grew silent as the night began to get old.

Percy gave Ronin a slight hug, scared of the sudden reactions he had observed.

Ronin's eyes grew dry as his tears stopped, halted by Percy's touch. Ronin knew it was too late to run away now. He had told someone he had let someone in; he had never done that before.
