Chapter 81 - Chapter 81: Torn Between Two Wolves

The fire crackled softly in the corner, casting flickering shadows on the walls, but the tension between Jerome and Ian was far more stifling than the heat in the room. Jerome's heart raced as she watched Ian's intense expression. His confession still echoed in her mind, and she wasn't sure how to respond. Could Ian truly change? Or was she just fooling herself, hoping that the man who was both her protector and captor could be different?

"Ian…" Jerome's voice was hesitant, fragile as glass, as she tried to find the right words. "I can't be yours if it means losing myself."

Ian's golden eyes locked onto hers, a flicker of hurt crossing his face before it was buried under the hard shell of his alpha pride. "You're not losing yourself," he said firmly, though his voice softened, as if pleading for her to understand. "I'm trying to protect you, Jerome. Everything I do is for you."

Jerome shook her head, the weight of his possessiveness suffocating her. "But at what cost? You can't control every part of my life, Ian. I need… I need space, freedom."

The word seemed to sting him like a physical blow. Ian's fists clenched, his jaw tightening as he struggled to contain the surge of emotions coursing through him. The idea of giving Jerome space—letting her go even for a moment—was unbearable.

"Freedom?" Ian growled, his eyes flashing dangerously. "Do you have any idea what would happen if I wasn't there? Aiden would take you the moment I let my guard down. You'd be his—" His voice cut off, a dark possessiveness filling his gaze. "No one will have you but me."

Jerome recoiled at the venom in his tone, her heart aching. She wanted to believe that Ian's obsession was born out of love, but sometimes it felt like a cage—one she couldn't escape.

"Ian, I'm not a prize to be won or a possession to be guarded," Jerome said, her voice firmer this time. She met his gaze, refusing to back down. "I'm a person. And if you can't see that, then this isn't going to work."

Silence fell between them, heavy and suffocating. For a moment, Ian looked lost, as though he wasn't sure how to respond. Then, slowly, his features hardened, and the protective Alpha in him resurfaced.

"I'm not going to lose you, Jerome," he said quietly, but there was a steeliness in his tone that made her shiver. "Even if it means keeping you closer than you want. I won't let Aiden or anyone else take you from me."

Jerome's heart pounded in her chest, fear creeping in at the edges of her mind. She had seen this side of Ian before—the side that refused to let go, no matter the cost. And yet, there was a part of her, deep down, that still craved the safety he provided, even if it came with chains.

Before she could respond, the door to the room burst open, and another figure strode inside, bringing with him a cold gust of air. Jerome's breath hitched as she recognized him—Aiden. His dark eyes gleamed with wicked amusement as he took in the scene, a cruel smile tugging at his lips.

"Well, well," Aiden drawled, his voice dripping with mockery. "Look at this. The little wolf and his precious mate, playing house." His gaze flicked to Jerome, and something predatory glinted in his eyes. "Didn't think I'd find you so easily, sweetheart."

Ian was on his feet in an instant, his body tense and ready to attack. "Get out," he snarled, his voice filled with raw fury.

Aiden chuckled darkly, clearly enjoying the reaction he provoked. "Now, now, Ian. Is that any way to treat an old friend?" His smile widened, and his eyes locked onto Jerome. "I've come to collect what's mine."

Jerome's heart lurched, terror washing over her. She could feel Ian's protective presence beside her, but she also knew how dangerous Aiden was. Her mind raced with fear, not just for herself, but for what Ian might do in his desperation to protect her.

Ian growled low, his voice deadly. "She's not yours. She was never yours."

Aiden's gaze darkened, and the playful gleam in his eyes vanished, replaced by something far more sinister. "We'll see about that."

Jerome's breath caught in her throat as the tension in the room spiked, the air thick with impending violence. She could feel the pull between the two alphas, their battle for dominance threatening to tear everything apart. And caught in the middle was her—a pawn in their dangerous game.

Her pulse raced as she realized the fight wasn't just about power. It was about her. And no matter how much she wanted to break free, she couldn't escape the fact that both Ian and Aiden were willing to do whatever it took to claim her.

The wolves were circling, and Jerome was trapped in the center of the storm.
