Chapter 74 - Chapter 74: The Alpha’s Warning

Jerome's pulse quickened as Aiden's dark silhouette loomed in the moonlight. He stood tall, his presence commanding, and there was no mistaking the predatory gleam in his eyes. He had been waiting, perhaps listening, and now he was here—ready to confront them. Her breath caught in her throat as the realization hit her: they were out of time.

Ian stepped out from the cabin, sensing the shift in the air before he even saw Aiden. His gaze locked onto the Alpha immediately, his body tensing like a spring ready to snap. Jerome felt the weight of Ian's protective instinct, but she knew they were both in danger. Aiden had already sensed their disloyalty.

"Ian," Aiden greeted, his voice deceptively calm, though the undercurrent of menace was unmistakable. His gaze shifted to Jerome, lingering on her with an intensity that made her skin crawl. "Jerome."

Neither of them responded immediately. Ian took a step forward, placing himself slightly in front of Jerome, his body language clear—he wouldn't let Aiden near her.

Aiden's smile was cold. "You've been very busy, haven't you?" he remarked, his voice laced with quiet threat. "Stirring up trouble. Rallying my pack behind my back."

Jerome's heart pounded in her chest, but she stood firm. She wouldn't show fear, not in front of him. "They're not your pack, Aiden. They're wolves, not pawns for you to control."

Aiden's eyes flickered with something dangerous, but he didn't lash out—not yet. Instead, he looked at Ian. "You think you can protect her from me? You think you can turn them against me?" His voice dropped, colder than the night air. "I am the Alpha. No one challenges me."

Ian didn't flinch. "The pack is starting to see the truth, Aiden. They're starting to realize that your obsession with power is putting everyone at risk. You've already lost their trust."

Aiden's smile twisted into something darker. "Trust? Wolves don't need trust. They need strength. Fear. That's what keeps them in line. Not these delusions of loyalty you're clinging to."

Jerome's stomach tightened as Aiden's gaze slid back to her. "And you," he continued, taking a slow step toward her. "You've been quite the distraction, haven't you? You think you can play in the world of wolves, Jerome? You think you understand what's really at stake here?"

Her throat tightened, but she didn't back down. "I understand enough. Enough to know that your rule is built on fear and manipulation. Enough to know that we deserve better."

Aiden's eyes flashed with anger. "Better? You think Ian is better for you? Do you really believe he can protect you from me?"

Before Jerome could respond, Ian's voice cut through the tension like a blade. "Stay away from her, Aiden."

Aiden's expression darkened. His patience was thinning, and the atmosphere crackled with the threat of violence. "You've made a mistake, Ian," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "Both of you."

Jerome could feel the tension building, the moment spiraling toward an inevitable clash. Her heart raced as she stood her ground, knowing that there was no turning back now. They had crossed a line, and Aiden would not forgive them for it.

"I could make this simple," Aiden continued, his voice soft but venomous. "I could crush this rebellion before it even begins. But I'll give you one chance—leave. Leave the pack, and never come back. Or I'll make sure neither of you survive the night."

Jerome's blood ran cold, but Ian remained steady beside her. "We're not leaving," Ian said firmly, his voice unyielding. "We're not backing down."

Aiden's smile vanished, replaced by a look of cold fury. "Then you've sealed your fate."

Without another word, Aiden turned on his heel and stalked off into the night, his threat hanging in the air like a death sentence. Jerome's knees felt weak as the tension slowly ebbed, but the danger was far from over. They had declared war against the Alpha, and now there was no escape from the consequences.

Ian stepped closer to Jerome, his hand brushing her arm as if to reassure her. "It's going to get worse from here," he said quietly, his eyes meeting hers with a grim intensity.

Jerome nodded, her heart heavy with the weight of what they had just set in motion. "I know."

"We'll be ready," Ian added, his voice hard with determination. "We'll fight back."

But as they stood in the cold night air, the reality of their situation pressed down on them. They had challenged the Alpha, and Aiden would not rest until they were destroyed.
