Chapter 7
In the middle of the night, one can hear the sound of insects chipping, animals hunting for food and the peace granted by nature, until the sound of hurried foot steps can be heard, twigs and branches breaking, figures of creatures hid in the dark with red glowing eyes stareing at the sleeping Vard, unknown to them Vard heard all their movements, the breathing of this creatures and the breaking of twigs and branches as they moved in trees, they really underestimated him, Vard reached for the knife in his boot without drawing attention to himself. Suddenly one of the creatures rushed towards Vard aiming for his neck, then Vard rolled to the side avoiding the creature's attack. The creature was shocked by the supposed sleeping Vard easily dodging it's attack, before it could react, Vard rushed toward it using his knife to stab it's left eye immediately black blood gushed out making the creature scream in pain, Vard immediately stabbed it's right eye completely blinding it causing the creature to struggle as it wailed in pain, Vard easily held it's neck ,while it struggled to break free from his grip Vard plugged the knife into the creature's neck making black blood gush out and splashing on him as it died. Looking at the creature at his feet, Vard confirmed it was indeed a human who got possessed by a demon, then the sound of twigs breaking increased as demons from every corner attacked him. Vard immediately picked up his sword as he clashed with the demons, though he was able to keep up with their speed and strength, they were not called one of the strongest races for nothing, while he was had slayed many of them, he was fighting two demons at once suddenly one of the demon attacked him from behind using it's long black nails to claw at his back causing Vard to groan in pain.
It was well known that once a demon possesses a human not only does their physical appearance change their cursed energy makes the person stronger and faster . A demons sharp teeth has the ability to tear humans and supernatural beings like wise into pieces, their nails are long and sharp it also has the ability to release poisonous venom that even the strongest white witch can't cure and can kill a human in less than a second but Vard being an immortal was only weakend by the poison. Pinning him down to the ground some of the demons that hid in trees picked up Vard's bag and brought out the box containing the pearls.
Wait n..no drop that down, drop it! Vard yelled in anger.
And what if they don't. A female voice said.
That voice, Lepone? Vard asked with a stunned expression.
Then Lepone figure emerged from the darkness.
Long time no see Vard, how long has it been ? Perhaps a hundred years? Lepone said with a mocking smile.
Lepone, what are you... Forget that, Lepone that box, get it from the demons it contains the pearls they want to use it to destroy the world and break the seal. Vard said in one breath.
Oh, you mean this. Lepone said taking the box from the demons hands and patting it's head as it bowed down to her.
Lepone, what are you doing. Vard asked in shock.
Isn't it obvious Vard, I knew you were stupid but I didn't expect you to be this stupid. Lepone complained frowning her brows.
Y..you are working with the demons? Vard asked wishing in his mind it was not true.
Now you're are right on the track, but, am not working with them, they are working for me. Lepone said with a smirk on her face.
Why would you.. why would you do that, Lepone tell me you are joking. Vard said weakly, feeling the poison effect on him.
At least we have known each other for a long time so you should know I don't do joke. Lepone said rolling her eyes.
But why. Vard asked still not believing what he was seeing.
Sighing Lepone replied. Not everyone is like you, not everyone likes being the gods pet and being controlled by them, after the first hundred years we ascended together, I noticed that the so called gods you put in a high position in your heart are nothing but carwards, they don't get involved in worldly affairs not because they think highly of themselves, they are scared that their own creation will destroy them. They are scared that we will destroy them, that's why they always oppress us setting up stupid rules to protect themselves from us.
No you're wrong, those rules were set to guide and protect us. Vard argued.
Guide? Protect? If they were really that powerful during the era of dragons and demons why didn't they stop the era themselves? Why did they create the chaos pearl that can destroy realms from the power they forbade us from using, why did they create the heavenly pearl from the powers they don't have? The answer is right in front of us, they are not powerful, they depend on us to protect them, living in the heavens so we can't harm them. The real power is in the pearls, mostly the choas pearl.
Lepone's last sentence made Vard widen hid eyes. But Lepone, h..ho..how did you know the chaos pearl was made of forbidden magic? Vard asked with confusion written all over his face.
I know, because I never left Vard. How did you think I followed you here coming to exactly where you are. Lepone said with a mocking smile.
Lepone opened the box and brought out the choas pearl. With this, I will be able to break the seal and kill those good for nothing gods.
Turning her back to Vard. Vard , have you ever wondered why there are seven thrones and only six figures in that large room? Lepone asked.
No. Vard said with a bearly audible voice.
So do I. Lepone said while walking away from Vard sight.
Lady Lepone, what shall we do to the immortal and the heavenly pearl. A demon asked Lepone.
The heavenly pearl is useless to us and so is Vard, looking at Vard who was already looking pale from the poison and was still in a daze. She smiled as she said torture him how you want then throw him and the heavenly pearl into the ocean.
Yes my lady, the demon bowed, looking at Vard, he said in a loud voice, you heard what she said torture him as you please and avenge our brothers who died in his hands.
Looking at Lepone back. Lepone, stop. Vard said weakly before sharp long black nails clawed at his back releasing it's poison into his body, then many more followed, one of the demon picked up Vard's knife and plunged it into his stomach. The smell of blood filled the air and Vard screams of pain could be heard, Lepone who has gone a far distance couldn't help but smile. You know nothing Vard.
