Chapter 16 - Core collection

The vice general arranged a private meeting between Ron and the king of the empire. As Ron entered the grand meeting hall, the air seemed to shift. The king, seated on his elaborate throne, looked nothing like a ruler of a vast empire. He resembled a broken man—one who had already faced the burden of failure and was nearing bankruptcy. His robes were worn, and his face etched with the lines of exhaustion.

But as Ron made his entrance, the atmosphere turned deadly. His killing intent flooded the room like a dark cloud, so thick and suffocating that the soldiers lining the walls fell to their knees, trembling. Those standing near him could barely stay on their feet, their bodies instinctively bowing under the sheer weight of his presence. The king and his minister, though trying to maintain their composure, could feel their throats tighten and their words fail them in the face of such overwhelming power.

The guide, standing behind Ron, warned softly, "Ron, stop using your killing intent, or they might die just from being near you."

Ron blinked, as if coming out of a trance, and chuckled. "Oh, yeah. I forgot. I had a strong feeling there might be a traitor in this empire, and it riled me up." He looked around, his eyes narrowing on the figures in the hall. "Anyway, I'm here for business. Let's get this over with. Who here has the elemental cores I need?"

The king, still struggling to speak, nodded toward his minister. The minister, mustering what strength he had left, stepped forward shakily. "In our treasury, we have all types of elemental cores—except for the Thunder Elemental Core. That one is… unavailable."

Ron waved his hand dismissively. "That's fine. Just take me to your treasury. I'll take two cores, and that's all I need. Consider it my fee for helping your empire. And who knows? I might even help you destroy the Borne Empire."

The minister, visibly relieved that Ron had calmed his aura, quickly led him to the treasury. As they walked through the opulent halls, the minister tried to make conversation, but Ron remained silent, his mind focused on his task. When they reached the treasury, massive iron doors swung open to reveal a vast collection of elemental cores glowing with various colors, each resting on velvet-lined pedestals.

Ron's eyes scanned the collection until they settled on two in particular: the Water Elemental Core and the Wood Elemental Core. He picked up the highest quality versions of each, their soft glow intensifying as they reacted to his touch. The minister, eager to please, stepped forward. "You're welcome to take more. These cores are common within our empire, after all."

But Ron shook his head. "These are all I need." His voice was calm but carried an edge of finality, signaling the end of the conversation. As he turned to leave, he added, "Tell your king I'm leaving."

As Ron was leaving, he summoned a horde of monsters from his inventory and turned to the minister. "Use these monsters as emergency food," he instructed. "This will be better for both the soldiers and the people of the empire."

Upon entering the 9th floor, Ron received a quest:

Ding! Kill the King and the mastermind behind the magic equipment and the Tremors.

Standing at the entrance gate of the empire, Ron flew directly over the castle and into the main hall. Without hesitation, he killed the King in front of everyone. Sitting on the throne, he declared, "Whoever dares can approach me and challenge me. If you can walk in my presence, I will face you."

But no one dared to come near him. Breaking the silence, Ron demanded, "I need to know who is responsible for the Tremors in the Solitary Kingdom."

A man who appeared to be a prince stepped forward and said, "It was my brother who orchestrated the Tremors and created the magic barriers. He is hiding in the basement."

Ron nodded and replied, "Very well. Rule this kingdom in my absence, and do not dare to attack the Solitary Kingdom."

He then went to the basement, killed those responsible for the plot, and returned to the meeting hall. There, he commanded, "Assist the Solitary Kingdom, ensure they do not suffer from hunger. I will leave now, but know this—if you fail to uphold this alliance, I will personally return and destroy this kingdom."

After announcing the new king and the alliance with the Solitary Kingdom, Ron ascended to the 10th floor, which he had long been anticipating.
