Chapter 14 - Curse

Ron and his guide walked steadily toward their destination. The guide said, "Anyway, let's move on to the next floor. We need to reach the 10th floor as soon as possible."

Without hesitation, Ron opened the portal to the 7th floor and stepped into it. As soon as he arrived, a quest notification appeared.

Ding! Quest: Find the culprit behind the village's dry farms.

Determined, Ron ventured into the village. The land was barren, with cracked soil and empty fields where crops once thrived. As he walked through the desolate streets, he noticed a young girl in distress. She looked weak, her clothes tattered, and her face showed signs of exhaustion and hunger.

Ron approached her and said gently, "I'll give you some gold coins if you can tell me what happened here and why the village is in this condition. Here, take this food and water, and tell me slowly what you know."

The girl hesitated at first but then accepted the food and water. After eating and drinking, she spoke softly, "My name is May, and I'm an orphan. My aunt takes care of me. She's a farmer, but lately, nothing grows. There's a curse over the village, draining the land of all life. The crops wither before they can sprout, and farming has become impossible."

Ron listened intently as May continued, "To make things worse, we're trapped here. A magical barrier surrounds the village, preventing anyone from leaving. People have tried to escape, but no one has succeeded."

Ron looked at her with determination. "Take me to this barrier," he said, "I'm going to break it."

May hesitated but eventually led him to the edge of the village where a shimmering, invisible force field blocked the way. "Everyone has tried, but no one has ever been able to break it."

Without a word, Ron unsheathed his sword and swung it at the barrier. The force field shattered, but as soon as it broke, it began to repair itself, reforming before their eyes.

The guide chimed in, "This is the work of shield-type magical equipment. The barrier is weak, but it has a self-repair function. Every piece of equipment has its limits, though. If you keep destroying it, the durability will wear down. Consider this a chance to improve your swordsmanship."

Taking the advice to heart, Ron struck the barrier again. And again. Over and over, he shattered it, each time the barrier repairing itself, though more slowly than before. Sweat dripped from his brow, but his swordsmanship improved with each blow. Finally, after countless attempts, the barrier shattered completely and did not reform.

The villagers gathered, stunned and amazed. The oppressive barrier that had held them captive for so long was gone. May looked at Ron with wide eyes, a spark of hope finally igniting in her gaze.

"Thank you," she whispered.

Ron nodded, sheathing his sword. "Now," he said, "we need to figure out who's responsible for this curse and stop them."

The journey was far from over, but at least now, the villagers had a fighting chance.

Ron asks the girl, "Where did the fields start to fall?" The girl replies, "The south fields have been sending vibrations lately. I don't know why."

When Ron arrives, he observes monsters lurking underground. The guide says, "These are desert Tremors, but they're small. This mission should be easy for you. Just kill those three Tremors."

Ron blasts the ground with his Gigantification and super strength skills. As the Tremors try to flee, sensing his killing intent, Ron effortlessly slices each one in half.

The guide remarks, "It's over, but the village still needs time to recover. Also, this area will collapse if it rains. We need to relocate the villagers to a safer place near a forest and give them all the gold you've stored in your inventory since you don't need it."

Ron agrees, "Okay, I'll take them to a good place." He leads the villagers to a nearby forest and chops down trees to make furniture for building houses. He then transports everything from their village to the new location by using his inventory.
