Chapter 5 - Chapter 5. Giving them consent.

The police came immediately she called them and reported the emergency. She waited there with him until the police arrived. She did not know who he was hence she had not given the police information about who the victim was.

All she told them was that a man was attacked and in bad shape.

" Ma'am, is there any other thing you saw apart from these guys you say you can not describe, like a car or its license number?" A female police officer asked Helena.

" No, nothing else. They were all holding a bat and that was what I saw. I was hiding over there so I could not see anything else" Helena said.

" Okay then we will need you to sign this and we will drop you off at your house," The officer said as she gave Helena a book to write her name and include her signature.

"Do you need me to accompany him to the hospital, I mean until you figure out who he is and find a family member?" Helena asked.

It was after she asked that question that she realized what she had done. She did not know who he was and what if he did not have a family?

She wanted to say another word when the female officer immediately agreed " That will be very generous of you, please you can go into the ambulance with him" The officer said.

Helena took a deep breath before walking towards the ambulance which was parked some steps away from them. She kept staring at the injured man's face while a nurse tried to give him some first-aid treatment.

" Is he going to be alright?" She asked the nurse who seemed very focused on her work.

" If he makes it to the hospital alive then there is a chance that he would survive it. A lot of damage has been done to some delicate parts of his body and I'm trying to make sure that he does not pass out until we get to the hospital" The nurse replied.

Helena nodded her head. The drive to the hospital was about six minutes drive and Helena was surprised when the ambulance pulled over at the same hospital where her mother was.

She had been to the hospital that day to see her mother and she felt relieved knowing that she could go and see her mother again.

She, first of all, followed the patient into the hospital and stood by the door of the operating room when he was wheeled inside the hospital.

She stood there for about a minute and was about to turn around and walk to her mother's ward when a doctor immediately stepped out of the 0 R and asked " Does this patient have any family around, we need the family to consent to this treatment first.

Helena stopped walking and turned around. A male doctor was standing right outside the O R. He was an elderly man and he had his lab coat on.

" Didn't the nurse say that he was in a very bad condition and needed urgent treatment?" Helena asked as she approached the doctor.

" Yes Miss, but we can not do it without his family's consent or that of someone close to him" The doctor replied.

"Then do it," Helena said to the doctor.

" I am sorry, are you his relative?" The doctor asked her.

Helena gulped down hot saliva as she stared the doctor in the eyes and said to him. "I am his fiance and I want you to go ahead with the treatment," She said to the doctor.

" Oh I'm very sorry, we will attend to him right away and please try to stay around as we might be needing you anytime," The doctor said to Helena and she agreed.

She walked to her mother's ward and sat beside her mother's bed. Her mother was asleep and she was trying to be quiet in order not to wake her up.

She held her mother's hand lightly and smiled. The memories of the beautiful moments that day spent together are still fresh in her mind.

"I wish you were as strong as you used to be mum, my life would have been easier?" She said in a low and sad voice.

"Ma'am, the doctor wants to speak with you" A nurse suddenly opened the door and announced to her.

Helena was confused. She could not say if it was the doctor who was in charge of her mother's treatment or the doctor who was treating the stranger she met on her street.

She stepped out of her mother's ward into the lobby and followed the nurse to go and see the doctor who had invited her.

She walked into the doctor's office and was offered a seat right behind the doctor's desk.

It was the same doctor that she had approved to treat the stranger she met. Her heart was beginning to beat faster as she wondered if the doctor had found out the truth about her and the stranger.

" Miss, I am delighted to inform you that your fiancee survived the operation which was not so severe. We are to stitch his bruises up and also run an x-ray in case there are any broken bones" The doctor said.

Helena let out a sigh of relief and said to the doctor with sincere gratitude " Thank you very much, doctor, I appreciate what you have done for him." She said to the doctor.

To her surprise, The doctor bowed his head in appreciation and said to her in a calm voice.

" I must say that people of influence and wealth power like you and the patient should be more security conscious. A lot of bad people are always lurking around to either harm or steal from you" The doctor replied in a calm voice.

Helena could sense the concern and respect in his words. He sounded like he knew the Identity of the stranger whose fiance she was pretending to be.

" People of influence and wealth power?" She asked with a look of confusion on her face as she stared at the doctor.
