Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Drone Rotom

[Congratulations! You've drawn a Drone Rotom!]

"What? You can draw a Pokémon in this lottery?"

Ryan was astonished by the lottery result. He had only ever drawn items before, and never expected to get a Pokémon this time.

And not just any Pokémon, but a Rotom, a particularly fascinating one.

Rotom's body is composed of plasma, allowing it to enter various machines and change into different forms.

The Drone Rotom is the form it takes after entering a drone.

Although this form of Rotom doesn't possess combat abilities like other forms, it has aerial photography functions.

It can not only record battle footage but also commentate like a referee.

"I was just worrying about not having filming equipment, and now I've drawn a Drone Rotom! Arceus really loves me!"

Ryan was very satisfied with the result of this lottery.

With Drone Rotom, he could now film promotional videos and even photograph Pokémon to complete his Pokédex.

The more he thought about it, the happier he became, and he quickly took out the Drone Rotom from his panel.

Drone Rotom was entirely grass-green, with an oval-shaped head and a triangular protrusion in the middle.

Below its head was a round body with a camera installed in the center, surrounded by four rotors.

Its large blue eyes stared directly at Ryan.

"Bzzzt… Facial recognition complete. User identified as Ryan. Hello, master! Drone Rotom is at your service."

"H-hello."

Although Ryan had known from watching anime in his previous life that Drone Rotom could speak human language, hearing it in person was still a bit unnerving.

"Ahem, how do I use you? Wait, why does that sound so awkward?"

Drone Rotom didn't seem to find anything wrong with his question and answered seriously:

"You can state your filming requirements, and I will automatically fly and film based on your needs."

"If you wish to operate manually, please read the user manual carefully and use the remote control to operate me."

After listening to it, Ryan realized that there was also a remote control and user manual in the panel. He had been too excited to notice earlier.

He took out the manual and began reading, asking along the way:

"Before I took you out of the panel, where were you? And why did you immediately recognize me as your master?"

Ryan had always been curious about where the items in the lottery system came from. Previously, he had only drawn tools, which couldn't answer his questions.

But now that he had drawn a Pokémon capable of human speech, he naturally wanted to get some answers.

"I only gained consciousness upon arriving in this world and have no memory of where I was before. I only know that my mission is to serve you."

Drone Rotom's response didn't satisfy Ryan's curiosity; he still didn't know where these rewards came from.

But he didn't dwell on it for long. After all, even if he knew, what could he do about it? It's not like he could sneak in and steal all the rewards.

After reading the manual, Ryan picked up the remote control and tried operating it.

Since it was his first time using it, he wasn't very skilled, causing Drone Rotom to crash into walls several times.

After a few more tries, he finally became proficient enough at operating it.

He flew Drone Rotom out of the castle, and from the display screen on the remote, he could clearly see his territory.

If he lowered the altitude a bit, he could even hear the voices of the townspeople.

And the best part was that Drone Rotom flew almost silently, so few people would notice it.

Ryan flew Drone Rotom around the territory and noticed several players gathered and talking about something.

He lowered Drone Rotom's altitude slightly, and the players' conversation was transmitted through the display screen to his ears.

"Leaf, you really missed out! That battle this morning was spectacular!" Bryan said, patting Leaf's shoulder.

"Are you expressing sympathy or just bragging?" Leaf brushed Bryan's hand off.

"It was just a Pokémon battle. It's not like I won't get to see more later," Leaf said, trying to sound indifferent.

"Yeah, right. Who was the one chasing after us, begging for battle details?" Bryan's remark left Leaf speechless.

"You knew I wanted to see it, and you're still showing off? After I saved you, too! I'll shake you until you pass out and become the second dead player!"

"Help me, Vrix! Leaf's gone mad because he missed the battle!" Bryan called out.

"Why are you bringing that up again!" Leaf exclaimed.

Vrix could only shake his head, knowing that Bryan's teasing nature would never change.

"Alright, enough fooling around. We still haven't finished our task of gathering wood. Now that the Ursaring has been subdued by the lord, let's get back to it," Vrix said, stopping the bickering.

"Fine, I'll head to the castle courtyard to find Heracross. They really like me now," Leaf said, letting go of Bryan.

"Why do they like you?" Bryan asked, puzzled.

"Hehe, they were impressed by how I led Ursaring away with my heroic actions. Even though I'm not sure why I survived, they admire me. One of them is even considering following me," Leaf said proudly.

"What the heck? I should've died, then! Heracross is such a cool Pokémon!" Bryan's tone was full of envy.

"This is what you call 'blessing in disguise.' You wouldn't understand," Leaf replied smugly.

"Well said. It's a reward for your bravery," a voice suddenly interrupted.

"What the heck? Who's talking?"

"The voice is coming from above!"

The players looked up and saw Drone Rotom hovering above them.

"Is this a Pokémon? It looks like a drone."

"Isn't this game set in a medieval world? How are there drones?"

"Why are you all focused on its appearance? Shouldn't you be more shocked that it can talk?!"

"Yeah! Why can it speak human language?!"

Seeing the shocked faces of the players on the display screen, Ryan couldn't help but smirk.

Although he had lived two lives, he was still in his twenties and naturally wanted to show off when he had something cool.

Drone Rotom could recognize what he said through the remote and repeat it, essentially allowing him to converse directly with the players.

"I am Baron Ryan, speaking to you through this Pokémon. Don't be surprised; Pokémon are full of wonders."

"Your task is to gather wood as quickly as possible. The delay has been too long already."

"If you manage to complete the task before returning to the Divine Realm tonight, every one of you will earn the right to use a plot of farmland."

"The player who collects the most wood will receive a larger plot, and the special reward will be enhanced."

After hearing Ryan's words, the players forgot all about the drone Pokémon. Their minds were now entirely on the rewards.

"What are we waiting for? Let's get to it!"

"Go, go, go! I'm going to chop down a hundred trees!"

The players hurried off, and Ryan flew Drone Rotom back to the castle.

"That was fun, but I think I'll let you control yourself from now on," Ryan said after reviewing the footage, which turned out a bit blurry. Clearly, his filming skills needed work. Better to leave it to Drone Rotom next time.

"Understood. Just tell me when you want to film," Drone Rotom replied.

"Stop calling me 'master.' It sounds weird. Just call me Ryan. I'll give you a name too—calling you Drone Rotom is too much of a mouthful. From now on, your name is Roto."

Drone Rotom's voice was like a synthesized male electronic voice, and hearing it say "master" was just too strange for Ryan.

"Understood, master. My name is now Roto."

"I told you not to call me master. Just call me Ryan!"

"Okay, Ryan master!"

"…"
