Two boys could be seen riding on a rickety old bus as it made its way along a desolate forest road. One of them sat near the front, his features plain but youthful, with brown hair and eyes. This was Tsukune Aono, a 15-year-old wearing a Yokai Academy uniform who couldn't help but mumble to himself. "Okay, I'm used to being average. But still, I never thought I'd flunk all my high school entrance exams!"
In the back of the bus, a boy with a much more striking appearance overheard him and silently snickered. This was Xertz Aion, who stood out with his long black and purple dreadlocks, purple eyes, and brown skin. He also wore the Yokai Academy uniform, which complemented his unique look.
The atmosphere on the bus was tense, and the silence was suddenly broken by the deep, echoey voice of the bus driver. "Are you boys prepared for this school? Hope you said all your goodbyes since you may never see your family again… hehe."
Tsukune flinched, startled by the ominous words, while Xertz let out a laugh that mirrored the driver's unsettling tone.
After a few seconds of eerie laughter, the bus screeched to a stop. The driver spoke again, "This is your stop. Get off the bus."
With that, Tsukune and Xertz disembarked and found themselves at the edge of a dense, dark forest filled with dead trees. They started walking toward the academy, a foreboding silhouette in the distance.
As they introduced themselves, Tsukune couldn't help but shiver. "This forest is really creepy," he complained.
Xertz smirked, amused by Tsukune's fear. "Scared of some trees? Come on, Aono, you can't be serious."
Before Tsukune could reply, the sound of a bike bell came from behind them, and a girl's voice yelled, "Outta the way!"
Xertz quickly stepped to the side, avoiding the oncoming bike. Tsukune, however, stood there in confusion and ended up being knocked down along with the girl riding the bike.
Recovering from the tumble, Tsukune quickly apologized, not realizing his hand had landed on the girl's thigh until Xertz pointed it out with a laugh. The girl had pink hair, green eyes, and wore the Yokai Academy uniform as well, but with a skirt instead of pants. Around her neck hung a rosary choker.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" she said, standing up and brushing herself off. "I'm anemic and get a little dizzy sometimes."
Tsukune's heart raced; the girl was cute, and his nose betrayed him with a sudden nosebleed. The girl sniffed the air, her eyes sparkling. "Your blood… I can smell it." She leaned closer to Tsukune, her voice taking on a soft yet dangerous edge. "I'm sorry, but… I'm a vampire." Without another word, she bit down on his neck.
Xertz watched, momentarily stunned, before bursting into laughter. "Hahahaha, you got bit by a vampire on your first day! That's gotta be some kind of record!"
Tsukune shrieked, jumping up and running around in panic while the girl, seemingly unfazed, introduced herself as Moka Akashiya.
After a moment, Xertz grabbed Tsukune's collar, stopping him from running around. "Calm down, would you?"
Moka looked at them, concerned. "Do you have a problem with vampires?"
"N-No, not at all," Tsukune stammered, still flustered.
Xertz shrugged. "Inferior races don't pose a threat to me, so nah."
Moka's eyes brightened, ignoring the first part of his comment and focusing on the "nah." "Great! Then we can all be friends," she said cheerfully, leading the way toward the school.
Short Time Skip
The trio found themselves in class, where a teacher with cat-like hair stood before them. "Welcome, students. This is a school for monsters," she announced.
Tsukune's face went pale, and he started freaking out. "A s-school… for m-monsters?" he whispered to himself.
Xertz chuckled quietly, knowing Tsukune was human and enjoying his discomfort.
The teacher continued, "Monsters must learn to coexist with humans peacefully, and that's why Yokai Academy exists. The rule here is simple: all monsters must stay in their human form."
A boy with blond hair and a piercing under his lip raised his hand. "Why can't we just eat all the humans? I mean, I could start with all the cute girls."
The teacher, Ms. Nekonome, giggled. "Oh, you're silly. But don't worry, there are no humans here! The faculty and staff are monsters, just like you."
Just then, the door slid open, and Moka walked in, apologizing for being late. "I got a little lost," she said shyly.
All the boys except Tsukune and Xertz cheered at the sight of her. Ms. Nekonome nodded and told Moka to find a seat. As she walked down the rows, Moka spotted Tsukune and Xertz. She called out to them and jumped onto Tsukune, causing a chorus of jealous outbursts from the other boys.
"Hey, Moka," Xertz greeted casually, unaffected by the scene.
Outside the Classroom
The three friends sat on a bench outside, enjoying drinks from a nearby vending machine. Moka happily sipped tomato juice while Tsukune and Xertz had soda. Their peaceful time was interrupted by the blond boy from class, who walked up to them and grabbed Tsukune by the collar, lifting him into the air. "Why are you hanging out with a scrawny loser like him?" he sneered.
Before Tsukune could react, Xertz stood up, grabbed the blond boy's arm, and effortlessly threw him into the nearby forest. "Get lost," he said coldly.
Xertz then left to find his dorm, while Tsukune and Moka went their own way.
Xertz's Dorm Room
Xertz spent some time decorating his dorm with black and purple decorations. As he was about to open the window for some air, a scream echoed through the forest. It was Moka's voice. Instantly, he jumped out of the window and dashed toward the source of the scream.
He arrived just in time to see Saizo, the blond boy from earlier, in his true form as an orc, smacking Tsukune away. Moka rushed over to Tsukune's fallen body, and Xertz approached Saizo. "Ew, dude. Put that tongue away, that's disgusting," he said, grabbing Saizo by the forehead and slamming him into the ground.
As Xertz prepared to punch the orc again, he felt a surge of power behind him. Turning around, he saw Moka, but she had changed. Her hair was now silver, her eyes cat-like and red, and her fangs were longer and sharper. It seemed like her aspects seemingly wanted to burst out of her uniform.
Xertz laughed. "Little vampire, you're not needed."
Ignoring him, Moka approached the downed Saizo, kicking him up into the sky. "Know your place," she said with a cold voice.
Xertz couldn't help but laugh again. "Your little power display is adorable, but I've never fought a vampire before. I think I want to try."
Moka turned to him, her aura intensifying. But as Xertz started to unleash his full power, Tsukune ran between them. "Stop it, both of you!" He handed Moka her rosary, and she snapped it back onto her choker, reverting to her pink-haired self. Before she fully transformed, she glared at Xertz and said, "You laugh at me again, and you're dead."
Xertz raised an eyebrow, staring at her like she was joking. Moka, now back to her usual self, immediately latched onto Tsukune's neck for another bite, marking the end of their first chaotic day at Yokai Academy.
