After the brief battle, Clara admitted out loud that she was worse than Willow with the sword. She also said that her former instructors had never done what he did: challenge her to a fight.
Two years earlier, Clara's mother had hired her first fencing instructor. Despite being against it, Clara tried to learn. However, unlike magic, she couldn't feel progress clearly, and the old instructor's lessons were boring. This instructor stayed for just over a fortnight before resigning, saying that it was an offense to his career to deal with such a petty and uninterested girl.
Months later, another instructor was hired. This time, he only lasted nine days and also resigned. Other instructors, masters and teachers were hired over time, but they never stayed long because of Clara's lack of interest.
