The magic sword Flagrak is no ordinary weapon. Forged as one of the four secret treasures of the Tuatha Dé Danann, it is an artifact held by Lugur, the god of light and the sun, who also happens to be the father of Kevin and Cu Chulainn. Among the four treasures, Lugur possesses two: Flagrak and the magic spear Brionac, also known as the "Bombarding Five Stars."
The life of a god is measured in epochs, and for Lugur, gifting Flagrak to Kevin was an investment in his growth. Initially, Kevin was only permitted to wield its power sparingly, the true ownership retained by Lugur. But everything changed during Kevin's trials in the Shadow Kingdom, where Lugur transferred full control of the sword to him.
For Kevin, this was both a blessing and a curse.
While he had mastered Scathach's spearmanship during his five grueling years of training, she had always emphasized that the true test of mastery lay in adapting techniques to real combat. This was something Kevin had yet to fully achieve.
Spearmanship was a skill. And in the brutal world of gods and demigods, skills were often no match for sheer power.
Kevin's mortal body was his greatest limitation. Against Cu Chulainn's demigod physique, which could endure injuries and dish out devastating attacks without pause, Kevin had to fight carefully, calculating every move. This caution gave him fewer injuries but also limited his aggression in battle.
The magic sword Flagrak, however, leveled the playing field.
Unlike spearmanship, which required finesse and precision, Flagrak was raw, overwhelming power. In the hands of someone like Kevin, who was both resourceful and desperate, it became a trump card. While his swordsmanship was far less polished than his spearmanship, the sword itself compensated with its devastating abilities.
The moment Kevin unleashed the true name of Flagrak, a silver beam tore through the castle grounds. The brilliant light split the crimson-hued sky, accompanied by a deafening explosion.
The people of Lask, who witnessed the strike, stood frozen in awe and horror. When the dust settled, half the castle was reduced to rubble. Pools of blood stained the earth, and the battlefield resembled a scene from hell.
Hundreds of warriors who had rushed to intercept Kevin and Cu Chulainn were wiped out in an instant.
Cu Chulainn stared at the aftermath, his jaw slack. For all his battles, for all his strength as a demigod, he had never witnessed destruction on this scale.
"Kevin...you…" Cu Chulainn's voice trembled as he turned to his brother, unable to find the words.
Kevin, too, was stunned. His hands, still gripping the hilt of Flagrak, shook as the silver light faded from the blade. His chest heaved, his heart pounding in disbelief. He had grossly underestimated the sword's power.
The casualties were staggering, and the destruction far beyond what he had anticipated. Flagrak wasn't merely a weapon; it was a calamity.
"Kevin," Cu Chulainn called out hesitantly, approaching him. "What... what did you just do?"
Kevin didn't respond immediately. His legs wobbled beneath him, and he nearly dropped the sword. Finally, with a faint smile, he muttered, "Run."
"Run?" Cu Chulainn repeated, baffled.
"Run!" Kevin shouted, his voice strained.
At that moment, Cu Chulainn noticed Kevin's trembling hands and pale complexion. The realization hit him: Kevin was completely spent. He had poured every ounce of his strength into that single attack.
Without another word, Cu Chulainn sheathed his spear and hoisted Kevin onto his shoulders.
"Hold on, Kevin," he said, his tone resolute.
With a quick swipe of his hand, Cu Chulainn drew a rune in the air. The symbols glowed brightly before he leaped into the air, carrying Kevin away from the smoldering battlefield.
…..
The surviving soldiers of Lask stared at the remnants of the castle in stunned silence. None dared to pursue the fleeing pair.
Fergal, the king of Lask, stood among the ruins, his face ashen. He looked at the pit carved into his lands, where hundreds of his finest warriors had been obliterated in an instant.
"Druid," Fergal barked, his voice trembling.
"Yes, my king?" The druid, who had barely survived the attack, stepped forward cautiously.
"Find those damnable bards and druids who promised me this would work!" Fergal snarled. "If they don't explain themselves, I'll feed them to the crows!"
The druid hesitated. "My king, I'm not sure how many of them even survived that... that attack."
"Then find their corpses!" Fergal roared. "I'll demand answers from their gods if I have to!"
As the druid retreated to carry out his orders, Fergal stared at the night sky. A bitter smile crept across his face.
"Kevin," he muttered. "A man of miracles, indeed. But next time we meet…" His voice darkened. "I'll kill you myself."
….
Far from the battlefield, Scathach and Emer had doubled back on their divine horses to reunite with Kevin and Cu Chulainn.
"You released the true name of the magic sword," Scathach said bluntly as she approached the group.
Kevin, barely conscious, looked up at her weakly. His lips moved, but no sound came out.
Scathach didn't need words to understand. With a flick of her wrist, she drew a rune that enveloped Kevin in a faint red glow. She inspected him closely and frowned.
"You fool," she said sharply. "You've depleted at least half of your magic reserve. Do you have any idea how reckless that was?"
Cu Chulainn, still holding Kevin, raised an eyebrow. "Wait, half? What does that mean?"
"It means," Scathach replied, glaring at him, "your brother just used up years of his vitality in one reckless attack. And for what?"
Cu Chulainn grimaced. "He didn't know. He thought it was just a normal sword from our father."
At that, Scathach froze. "He didn't...know?"
Kevin blinked weakly, the faintest glint of guilt in his eyes.
Scathach let out a frustrated sigh. "Do you two have any idea what Flagrak actually is?"
"Father's sword?" Cu Chulainn ventured.
"It's not just 'Father's sword,'" Scathach said, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Flagrak is one of the four secret treasures of the Tuatha Dé Danann. It is an artifact feared even by the gods."
Both brothers stared at her, dumbfounded.
"And your father," Scathach continued, her tone laced with exasperation, "isn't just a hero among the gods. Lugur is the designated successor to lead the entire Tuatha Dé Danann."
The revelation hung in the air like a thunderclap.
Emer, who had been silent until now, spoke up timidly. "Does that mean Kevin...?"
Scathach nodded grimly. "Yes. Kevin isn't just a child of light. He's walking around with one of the most powerful weapons in existence, blessed by the future leader of the gods. And now…"
Her gaze fell on Kevin, whose eyes flickered shut. "Now, every god who fears that weapon will be hunting him."
