Chapter 1 - 1: Two Boys and a God

"Hey, are you okay?"

A handsome boy with blue hair and red eyes, only seven years old, extended his hand in a friendly manner to the black-haired boy sitting on the ground with a dazed look on his face.

Under the soft moonlight, the blue-haired boy was covered in blood. Next to him lay a massive mastiff he had just killed. The mastiff, as tall as an adult, had sharp fangs that glistened menacingly in the pale light, making anyone who looked at it shiver.

The black-haired boy hesitated for a moment. He didn't understand what the blue-haired boy said but could feel the kindness in his gesture. Finally, he reached out, grabbed the offered hand, stood up, and expressed his gratitude for being saved from the giant mastiff.

"Thank you. Thank you," he said in standard Chinese.

"Huh?" The blue-haired boy tilted his head, looking puzzled at the black-haired boy, who was about the same height as him. The boy's words were incomprehensible, but his tone conveyed sincerity. It was clear they didn't speak the same language.

The two stood there, blinking at each other in confusion, when suddenly, a noise erupted from the distance. The commotion grew louder as people from nearby houses, disturbed from their evening routines, hurried toward the scene. In the high house not far away, adults enjoying their dinner rushed out, startled by the noise.

It was at this moment that the black-haired boy's eyes underwent a miraculous change. Under the blue-haired boy's curious gaze, the pair of ordinary black eyes suddenly sparkled like stars in the night sky.

"The target has been locked: Cu Chulainn, the Son of Light. Start recording and imprinting!"

A sudden voice echoed in the black-haired boy's mind, making him widen his eyes in shock. He frantically looked around for the source of the voice but saw no one except the blue-haired boy.

"Hey, what's wrong with you?" The blue-haired boy stepped closer, his curiosity piqued. "Your eyes are so beautiful. How did you do that?"

As the blue-haired boy reached out, the dazzling light in the black-haired boy's eyes faded, returning to their ordinary black. The boy instinctively took a step back, stunned. But to his astonishment, he could now understand what the blue-haired boy was saying.

"Hey! What happened, Setanta?" A crowd approached them, and a regal-looking man in gorgeous attire called out to the blue-haired boy. His voice carried authority and concern as his eyes scanned the scene, landing briefly on the black-haired boy.

"The dog wanted to eat him," the blue-haired boy explained, pointing to the black-haired boy. "So, I killed it and saved him."

"A dog?" The black-haired boy was incredulous, glancing at the enormous mastiff lying lifeless on the ground. Its sheer size made the term "dog" seem absurd.

"You killed something?" The regal man turned his focus to the mastiff and then back to the black-haired boy. His shock quickly shifted to admiration for the bravery of the blue-haired boy.

At that moment, another figure pushed through the crowd. An older man with a long beard and a grim expression approached. Seeing the mastiff's lifeless body, he cried out in anger, "What happened to my beloved dog? Who did this?"

The regal man, identified as King Conchieber, quickly explained the situation to the bearded man. The crowd began murmuring in awe of the blue-haired boy's bravery.

"But that was my guard dog!" the bearded man exclaimed. "Without him, who will protect me?" His anger, unable to be directed at the blue-haired boy, turned to the black-haired boy. "You! Damn kid! I'll kill you!"

He stepped forward, raising his fist, but before he could strike, the blue-haired boy moved protectively in front of the black-haired boy.

"You can't touch him!" the blue-haired boy declared firmly, catching the bearded man's fist mid-swing.

"Why not?" King Conchieber asked, puzzled by the boy's determination.

The blue-haired boy glanced back at the black-haired boy with a frown. "I feel like he's very important to me," he said. "He feels... like my brother!"

The crowd fell silent, including the black-haired boy, who stared in disbelief at the boy standing before him.

"My brother?" King Conchieber's expression shifted as if realizing something significant. He turned to the bearded man, Kulan, and said sternly, "You cannot harm this boy, for he is the child of Lord Luger, the God of Light and the Sun!"

"The God of Light and the Sun?!"

The crowd gasped in astonishment but did not question King Conchieber's declaration. Everyone in the Kingdom of Ulster knew that the blue-haired boy, Setanta, was the child of the God of Light.

King Conchieber turned back to the black-haired boy and smiled kindly. "Child, what is your name?"

The black-haired boy hesitated. He didn't understand why the blue-haired boy had called him his brother or why King Conchieber believed he was a child of the gods. But he quickly realized that this false identity might save his life.

"Kevin... My name is Kevin," he said, his voice trembling with nervousness.

"Kevin..." King Conchieber repeated thoughtfully.

"So, your name is Kevin!" The blue-haired boy grinned at him, tilting his head happily.

"But, my lord!" Kulan protested. "He killed my guard dog!"

Even though Kulan could no longer harm Kevin, his frustration was palpable. The mastiff was a source of pride—a creature even ten Celtic warriors couldn't subdue.

King Conchieber looked troubled, the murmurs of the crowd growing louder. Before he could decide, the blue-haired boy stepped forward confidently.

"I killed the dog," he declared. "So, I will take responsibility. I swear to the gods that until the next generation of fierce dogs grows up, I will protect you in its place! From today onward, my name will no longer be Setanta, but Cu Chulainn!"

The crowd gasped at his declaration, understanding the significance of his new name, Culann's Hound.

Kevin stood behind Cu Chulainn, staring at him in amazement, his emotions a complicated mix of gratitude and awe.

With the promise made, Kulan could no longer object. Cu Chulainn had proven his bravery and sworn an oath to the gods.

King Conchieber took the two boys back to the castle, ordering maids to clean Kevin and dress him in proper clothes. That night, after a grand meal, he arranged for Kevin and Cu Chulainn to share a room.

While Cu Chulainn fell asleep quickly, exhausted from the day's events, Kevin lay awake. His mind raced with confusion. Who was he? How did he end up here?

The world outside his window, though beautiful, felt foreign—nothing like the skyscrapers and bustling streets he faintly remembered. Sighing, he turned away from the moonlit view, only to freeze in terror.

A man stood beside the bed, dressed in regal attire and bearing an uncanny resemblance to Cu Chulainn.

The man smiled gently, stroking Cu Chulainn's cheek before turning to Kevin. He pressed a finger to his lips, signaling him to stay silent.

Kevin's heart pounded. He had an idea who this man was but couldn't bring himself to believe it.

"Come, child," the man said softly, gesturing for Kevin to sit beside him.

Trembling, Kevin obeyed.

"Do you know who I am?" the man asked, his voice calm and inviting.

Kevin hesitated before answering, "You are Lord Luger, the God of Light and the Sun."
