Chapter 25 - Kidnapped

Mila and I had just finished a shopping spree that had morphed into an all-day affair, and now we were laden with bags filled with everything from vibrant summer dresses to the latest beauty products.

"Okay, one more stop at that new café!" Mila insisted, tugging at my arm as we navigated the crowd. "I need caffeine to carry these bags!"

"Fine, but I'm ordering something ridiculously sweet," I replied, giggling as I stumbled over the hem of my sundress.

As we turned the corner, I felt a familiar prickle of unease at the back of my mind. It wasn't the first time I'd noticed the silver sedan trailing us.

It had been there for a few blocks now, weaving in and out of traffic, but I brushed off the sensation, convincing myself I was just being paranoid.

"Mila, did you see that car?" I asked, glancing over my shoulder as we approached the café.
