Chereads / The Crimson Reaper / Chapter 26 - Bitten (2)

Chapter 26 - Bitten (2)

Luciel glanced at Kai who seemed to be getting worse by the second, but he didn't have any time to provide some kind of first aid since the creature that went after his friend was getting ready to attack again.

Finally dropping the disguise that he was wearing, Luciel's eyes turned crimson red.

Extending his claws, Luciel hissed, showing off his fangs before rushing towards the enemy, grabbing it by its hands.

Raising his leg, he kicked the monster right into the chest, making it fall back and ripping away the upper extremities.

Not letting the creature recover, Luciel went for another punch, aiming for the head and throwing the creature off its balance onto the ground.

The moment when a creature fell down, Luciel raised his leg and went to stomp on his head, shattering it in pieces. "I hope it stays down this time."

"Can you stand up?" Luciel walked towards Kai, putting his hand around his shoulder before helping him get up.

"Barely. It drained all my strength… I need blood…" Kai was breathing heavily, struggling to keep his head up as his irises started to light up a little.

Luciel stared at Kai with a concerned look. He experienced it on himself, what it means for a vampire to starve. And how are they going to find a human now after this whole mess?

"Luciel! What is going on here!"

Kai and Luciel looked at each other, each having a malicious smile on their face once they recognized the voice that came from behind. It was Alex. Their victim had been found.

"Alex… We need your help…" Luciel turned around to look at his friend, but Kai had other ideas as something overtook his body.

Driven by hunger, he already rushed towards his prey with his eyes now vibrant red.

Seeing the situation, Alex quickly drew his sword, instinctively going for the vampire's neck, but before the two could do anything, Luciel got in between.

With one hand, he was holding Alex's wrist while with the other, he was holding Kai by the neck.

"You, no killing," Luciel stared at Alex before letting go of his wrist, "and you, wake up!" Now with a free hand, he went to punch the growling Kai right in the face, just as he punched Luciel when he was about to attack the woman.

Luciel let go of Kai who took a step back, shaking his head a little.

'Seems like a good punch really is effective.' Luciel looked at his fist, wondering how hungry a vampire needs to get before they lose themselves completely.

"Sorry about that…" Luciel smiled nervously, looking back at his friend, "So… We need a favor."

Alex couldn't help himself but stare at his friend's sharp canines when he mentioned a favor.

Luciel has been staying at his place for some time and he would see those fangs all the time.

Not wanting to make his friend uncomfortable or to hate himself even more, Alex would always pretend like everything was fine, as all things should be.

He even encouraged Luciel to drink blood since he needs it to survive and Alex would like to keep his neck intact as well.

"Alex?" Luciel called out his friend's name who seemed to stare at one spot.

"Sorry, I got lost in thoughts, what were you saying?" Alex shook his head a little.

"Can you give Kai a little bit of blood? It's urgent, I'll explain everything that happened." Luciel repeated himself, going closer to Kai to hold him in place if he would lose control again.

Alex let out a sigh, placing his hand on his forehead.

He remembers the night clearly as the day when Luciel sank his fangs into his neck.

It was the first time he got to experience what it meant to get bitten by a vampire and he doesn't want to experience it again.

Their venom is so potent that it can paralyze a victim in a minute. This feeling of helplessness is something that he wishes to never experience again.

"Luciel, I'm sorry, but I can't. You remember what I told you a week ago, anything but letting you directly drink my blood."

"If our venom is your only concern, there is a way to work around it." Kai interrupted, making Luciel turn his head towards him.

Kai shook his head a little, gritting his teeth while rubbing his forehead, trying to keep his composure.

He had been awake for some time now, trying to remember what happened, but there was nothing like someone cut a part of the film.

Kai went to slowly get up, using Luciel for support, feeling weak again after the sudden rush of energy left his body.

Luciel glanced at Kai who dug his claws into Luciel's shoulder. Saliva could be seen on the corner of his mouth while his gaze was constantly heading towards Alex's neck.

Alex was hesitant at first. He kept alternating his eyes between Luciel and Kai, trying to decide the best course of action.

"Fine." Alex rolled with his eyes, "What do I need to do?" He gave in.

Ever since Luciel turned into a vampire, Alex started to feel more like a babysitter of all vampires that started to flock around him, even if they probably saw him as nothing more than a tasty snack, Luciel included in the bunch.

"You? Nothing. We'll make a cut on your wrist and it's up to me to keep my fangs in check. Our fangs contain venom while our saliva contains a healing factor." Kai explained shortly, there was more he wanted to say, but he couldn't concentrate due to hunger pains and the desert in his throat.

"Then do it, but only this once." Alex extended his arm, revealing his wrist, but it made Kai feel bad.

What he said was true, but he kept an important detail to himself, he felt so thirsty that he wasn't sure if he could resist stabbing his fangs into Luciel's friend.

"Don't worry. If Kai loses it, I'll make sure to give him a good punch into the gut." Luciel commented after seeing the worry in his friend's eyes as Kai went to cut Alex's wrist with the help of his claws.

"Go on then." Alex gave permission and without further ado, Kai retracted his fangs and latched onto Alex's wrist.

As Kai was feasting, Luciel proceeded to explain to Alex what happened, not wanting to waste any moment.

"So that's what happened." Alex looked at Kai, this whole situation was making him feel awkward.

It made sense now why vampires would drink blood from those of the opposite gender if given a choice.

"Sounds like a zombie." Alex concluded, "But how could that be? Zombies are a work of fiction."

"I don't know." Luciel touched his chin, gazing at the zombie with the corner of his eye.

He heard about ghouls, but this creature didn't resemble a ghoul and he heard Kai saying something about it being a human. He will need to ask him once he is finished with eating.

"Ouch! He stabbed his fangs into my wrist!" Alex complained, grabbing Kai by his hair so he could detach him.

"Kai…" Luciel growled at his vampire friend, glaring right into his soul.

"Sorry about that, I couldn't help myself." Kai rubbed the back of his head, but at least his eyes returned to their normal red wine color.

"Great…" Alex muttered to himself, already starting to feel weak. His only hope now is that Kai didn't inject enough to paralyze him completely.

"Hey, are you sure that the vampires have been spotted here?"

"Yeah, I'm sure of it. They are saying that Luciel Ashford appeared. Can you imagine?!"

Kai and Luciel looked towards the voices that seemed to get closer.

"Someone's coming," Luciel stated, leaving Alex feeling confused at first because he couldn't hear anything.

"Hunters." Kai hissed, those guys usually brought more trouble than good, for a vampire at least.

"Let's hurry!" Luciel suggested. He didn't want to deal with hunters after everything that went down.

Agreeing with what Luciel had said, both of the vampires climbed on the roof by jumping from balcony to balcony, but one of the hunters noticed them.

"There they are!" One of them shouted, preparing to shoot from a crossbow.

Turning around, Luciel went to look at the faces of those who dared to hunt him, but he couldn't recognize anyone.

Hissing at his attackers, showcasing his fangs, he ran away with Kai, going from roof to roof.

"Help!" Alex screamed at the top of his lungs, wanting to switch the hunter's attention from his friends.

'I wonder if you realize how much you actually changed…' Alex thought to himself while waiting for someone to notice him as he watched Luciel running away.

He had an opportunity to see the power of vampirism with his own eyes and it was scary how it could make even one of the most powerful vampire hunters succumb to the wild nature of those bloodsuckers.

Alex called for help again, hoping for the hunters to answer his plea.
