"Werewolves…" Luciel looked at the beasts, going to form a small circle with the twins so they could watch each other's backs, leaving out Alex.
There were five of them, looking just as big as the first one that Luciel had encountered and he did not have a good memory about it.
He could feel fear spreading across his body, but this time, it was going to be different, he was not alone, or at least that was what he thought.
Luciel glanced towards Kai and Melisa who were both trembling in dread, Melisa more than Kai.
He could hear the racing heartbeats as the werewolves growled at them, orbiting around them and slowly getting closer and closer.
Fear was natural, so Luciel still expected them to fight until something unimaginable happened.
Melisa started to scream at the top of her lungs, making Luciel and Kai cover their ears and frown. It didn't feel as bad as the time he got attacked by a sonic attack, but it still felt like his ears were about to start bleeding.
'Curse this hearing.' Luciel scowled, being out of commission just as Kai and the rest of the werewolves that backed away a bit and lowered their ears, the only one who was still fine was Alex.
At one point, Melisa stopped to shriek and fell to the ground on her knees, hugging herself as she mumbled some things, being so quiet that even a vampire couldn't understand.
Once Melisa stopped screaming, the werewolves started making their approach.
Luciel shifted his attention towards the werewolves since they could attack at any moment and he had dead weights behind him.
Melisa was definitely useless which is a shame due to the ability she had demonstrated before. Kai seemed like he could follow her actions at any moment now, and Alex seemed pretty exhausted due to running away from the goblin horde.
One of the werewolves snarled at the group, launching the first attack, heading straight towards Luciel and Alex since those two still seemed to have some fight in them. There is no need to attack the other two vampires since they seem unable to fight.
Seeing the attack coming towards him, without asking, Luciel pulled the sword that Alex had attached to his waist and swung it towards the werewolf that jumped at him.
Luciel had one of his hands on the handle while he put the palm of his hand on the other side of the blade, blocking the attack and stepping back as he got locked in the battle of strength.
Sweat started to appear on Luciel's forehead. Not only did he have to battle with the werewolf, but he also had to battle with the divine sword he was holding. The pain was intense as it felt like it was burning right into his skin.
Roaring, Luciel finally pushed back the werewolf and dropped the sword on the ground, breathing heavily as he looked at his hands where both of his palms were scorched, surrounded by gray ash. If he would hold a sword a little bit longer, who knows what would happen.
Alex went to pick up the sword that Luciel let go of and got in a fighting stance, looking over at Luciel's wounds, serving as a reminder that he was no longer human. No matter how Alex looked at it, the burn marks looked agonizing, making him feel bad for his vampire friend.
"Kai, take your sister and run! I'll cover for you!" Luciel said through his teeth, trying to endure the pain since this was healing slower than his injuries usually.
Kai nodded and placed his sister on the back in a piggy style. At least she could still hold on tightly, but as Kai was to climb up onto a tree, another werewolf went after him and just as it was about to bite him, Luciel rushed towards it, hitting it right where its ribs were supposed to be, kicking it away.
"Alex, I hope that you still have a little bit of fight left in you." Luciel approached his friend, going back to back as they used to do in the past.
Once the werewolves regrouped, they howled again and rotated around the two, making the circle smaller and smaller.
"Well… I never thought I would fight alongside a vampire." Alex heard how Luciel hissed at the threat in front of him as a warning not to get any closer, but it also made Alex feel slightly uncomfortable and it was going to take some time getting used to it.
Alex started to pray, making a yellow glow appear below his feet and spread all around his body. His medium-long blonde hair started to rise in the air for a moment before falling down his neck again.
Hearing how Alex said an advanced body strength prayer, Luciel knew that his friend was ready for an intense fight.
All five werewolves that were encircling them ran towards the two at the same time, going for an attack.
Seeing this, Luciel extended his claws and grabbed the first werewolf that jumped at him.
He held it for its head, digging his claws into its head before throwing it at the other werewolf that was preparing to leap on him.
In the meantime, Alex was blocking each werewolf that tried to strike him with his sword, mainly aiming for their neck and chest, but that was hard to do since they seemed to be of the same strength as vampires, if not even more.
Each time Alex would cut a werewolf with his sword, it barely felt like he did anything. The werewolf didn't even seem in pain as the wound, no matter the size, healed in less than a minute. The sword was mostly useless unlike when used against a vampire.
Alex swung his sword toward the werewolf's neck, but his eyes widened in shock once he realized that his sword didn't reach even half of the werewolf's throat, it still seemed just fine.
The neck was just too thick, protected by a thick layer of fur, skin, and muscles, serving as a perfect defense against a vampire's bite.
Alex tried to pull his sword out, but it seemed to be stuck.
Taking a step back, he accidentally bumped into Luciel who was fighting, managing to get his attention.
Luciel kicked a werewolf that went at him and quickly looked over his shoulder, seeing how Alex was in trouble as the werewolf, with a sword stuck in its neck, was getting ready to tear him into pieces.
Luciel quickly turned around and pushed his friend behind him, switching places. Seeing how there was very little time to do anything, Luciel put his hand in front of him, letting the werewolf bite it.
He could feel a dull pain spreading around his arm as the werewolf gnawed on it and shook its head, not letting go of it, making Luciel frown in an uncomfortable sensation of pain once he felt his bones snap.
"Luciel!" Alex wanted to help his friend, but he had other problems to worry about as the werewolves that Luciel was fighting recovered and he had no means of defending himself.
Only Luciel seemed to be crazy enough to fight against a vampire unarmed, but when he gave it some thought, in Luciel's current situation, that statement didn't seem true. The guy now had fangs, claws, amazing regenerative abilities, and a perfect body that was above any human.
Alex on the other hand had nothing except his shiny armor that served only for attracting the goblin army that also served as a delicious snack for the vampires.
Luciel ignored the worried Alex, he had no time to worry about human emotions since surviving this is their top priority.
Growling as his fear was getting replaced by anger while the werewolf was trying to push him down on the ground, Luciel moved his foot backward a little and put his fingers close together on his other hand, making them look like a spear, thrusting his hand towards the werewolf chest where he assumed its heart was, mimicking the actions of a vampire that saved him before.
Feeling a sudden pain in its chest, the werewolf whined with blood in its mouth before its body became lifeless.
Luciel pulled out his hand from its chest, letting the corpse fall to the ground as he stared at the blood on his hands.
He wasn't drawn to it. Instead, it looked to be more disgusting than the idea he had when Melisa told him to try out the blood of a goblin, besides, it smelled like a wet dog.
With a single swing of his hand, Luciel got most of the blood off from his hand, splattering it on the ground.
Seeing how one of their packmates got killed, the werewolves stopped attacking for a moment since this came as a shock to them, but it gave Luciel enough time to pull out the sword from a werewolf's neck and hand it back to Alex with a grimace on his face as the sword started to burn into his hand.
"You're hand…" Alex accepted the sword, staring into his friend's crimson-red eyes. He wondered just what kind of monster his friend had become, but it was an undeniable truth that he survived this because of the said monster.
"Don't worry, it'll heal," Luciel reassured him, clenching his teeth once he felt that his bones started to get in place as his body started to heal the bite wound. "Get ready, we ain't done yet."
The werewolves backed away, but Luciel knew that this wasn't the end because, behind the four remaining werewolves, more golden eyes that were glowing in the dark cloud be seen. There were at least dozens of them, a whole pack.
Hearing more sounds coming from the back, Luciel turned around, and this time, instead of seeing golden eyes, he could see pairs of vibrant red eyes glowing in the dark, some were on the ground while some could be seen on the trees.
Wolves growling could be heard on one side of the place that was soon going to become a battlefield while another kind of growls and hisses could be heard on the other side. The big showdown was brewing.
