"This operation is a surprise attack on the Earth Alliance's small military supply base remaining in L4. The base is built on a small asteroid, but the mass of this asteroid is quite small, so the success of the assault will depend on the effectiveness of your high-energy pulse cannon, Director He."
As they neared L4, Iron Wall briefed the team on the mission.
"According to the tests, the high-energy pulse cannon, when fired at full power, is sufficient to destroy the self-repairing outer wall of a colonial satellite. However, compared to the thick rock of the asteroid, that is a different matter. I recommend you only target the exposed port area."
At the tactical display on the bridge, He Kui inputted simulation data.
"Alright, we'll follow your advice."
"The neutron disruptor is ready for activation; let's begin the operation."
Once the two had agreed, the captain had no objections.
Soon, two personalized red-painted Zakus and four Kins took to the field.
Meanwhile, He Kui and Shi He piloted a deep blue Zaku, floating among the others.
This was merely a small port; even without the high-energy pulse cannon, with so many people, they could retreat safely even in the event of failure.
"Open fire on the Alliance base!"
With the captain's roar over the comms, the three Zakus armed with high-energy pulse cannons simultaneously fired at the exposed port of the asteroid.
The high-energy pulse cannon unleashed a massive amount of energy, and a dazzling red beam shot forth from the dark barrel, slicing through the dark void of space and leaving three bright trails behind, like bridges to the heavens.
The scene where the light passed through slightly distorted; even without any sound, the immense destructive power could be felt through the visuals.
In an instant, the Alliance's port was engulfed by two massive energy blasts, and brilliant sparks erupted from the distance. The shockwave released by this energy explosion stirred up dust from the asteroid.
Silent yet lethal.
"Attack successful; the visual integrity of the enemy port has decreased by over 50%. The port's functionality is presumed to be damaged."
"Not right, heat sources detected. They have another port!"
"Multiple heat sources detected: Six Drake-class ships, two Nelson-class ships! Over twenty Mobius units!"
From the backside of the asteroid, several propulsion lights flickered like stars.
Quickly, the opposing warships retaliated.
The two Nelson-class ships simultaneously fired six beam cannons towards them.
However, the Iron Wall squad's reaction was equally swift; one of the nearby Kins instantly raised its modified beam-resistant shield in front of He Kui.
Of course, even without anyone blocking, He Kui had already raised his own shield.
"There's a discrepancy with the intel; they secretly constructed a second port."
The leader of Iron Wall spoke without much panic.
"Prepare to fire again. Director He, be ready to dodge."
"He Kui!"
Temporarily cutting off communications, Shi He called out to him.
Through their long-standing mutual understanding, He Kui quickly grasped her intent.
"Iron Wall Leader, we'll provide long-range artillery support."
Iron Wall was the on-site commander, so He Kui needed to seek their agreement.
"...Alright."
After a brief moment of contemplation, a decision soon followed.
The number of people participating was neither too many nor too few.
As a special forces unit, their combat strength was generally superior to that of a regular red squad, and a one-to-ten ratio was possible. Although facing eight enemy vessels, the Drake-class ships, equipped only with missiles, posed little threat with the neutron disruptors activated.
The only real threat was the two Nelson-class ships; as long as they remained cautious, they could handle them.
However, some things seem to go awry just when you think you have it all figured out. As the Iron Wall squad charged forward, they noticed among the increasing Mobius units, one distinctive unit stood out with four cannons mounted.
It was none other than the Zero!
"Why is the Moon's Eagle here?"
Seeing the enemy unit, He Kui felt a chill run down his spine.
This was definitely a hero unit.
Not just He Kui, but even the Iron Wall squad, who had already engaged, showed a noticeable decrease in speed.
This was the intimidation factor that the Moon's Eagle wielded.
"I'll take the Zero. You all focus on clearing the remaining Mobius units and warships."
Iron Wall declared, charging forward without hesitation.
"Let's prepare for sniping as well."
Retreating wasn't an option anymore, but even as He Kui faced the Zero, his palms began to sweat.
"Alright."
With Shi He's assistance and the Haro's targeting aid, a bright beam shot forth, instantly penetrating the hull of the Nelson-class ship.
The light rippled outward, creating a dazzling spectacle akin to fireworks in the galaxy.
Realizing their new weapon could fire repeatedly, the remaining warships hesitated; the Drake-class ships formed a box-like defense around the Nelson class.
"Only ten shots left... no, nine shots left before we're out of power. Be careful."
He Kui reminded, maneuvering his unit through beams and missiles, his handheld machine gun firing intermittently, his agile form flitting through the vibrant explosions like a fish navigating a sea of fire.
To reduce weight, the high-energy pulse cannon had not integrated a battery into its structure. Each shot drained the Zaku's power, and every time it fired, the power display would visibly decrease.
It felt like watching a phone lose battery with every press of a button.
It was a startling sight.
"I'll keep an eye out for incoming fire!"
Shi He declared as the high-energy pulse cannon mounted on the Zaku fired again.
The dazzling light erupted like an enraged dragon breaking free, aiming to tear through everything ahead.
Several of the Mobius units dodged, but one still grazed the engine compartment of a Drake-class ship. The engine exploded instantly, leaving the ship floating helplessly in space, while the weapon components aboard the Drake detonated, destroying themselves.
According to the conventions, their state was now considered a surrender, and they could not continue attacking.
Of course, conventions were often enforced selectively; there were many who exploited loopholes and others who blatantly ignored them.
However, He Kui had no time to be entangled with that ship; as the battle raged, numerous Mobius units charged toward him.
Fortunately, the pilot of the Zero, despite its cannon operation and movements being noticeably slower than the first encounter, suggested that perhaps the Moon's Eagle hadn't fully awoken.
Because of this, the scales of victory on the battlefield began to lean closer toward He Kui and his team.
