Even though he had already gotten Lifebloom Herb, he didn't want to waste them on minor injuries, so he said to search for a doctor.
Wang was shocked but he just nodded and left towards the command center.
Li Wei stood there looking at his farm. As the world was burning he didn't care about that.
As Wang entered the room he first dialed the doctor who he had previously contacted.
......
Chensu City.
Dr. Mei Lin was always composed.
In her mid-twenties, she recently graduated from one of the promising colleges.
She was known for her calm pressure and passion for helping others.
She was currently working at Aura Hospital.
Her day started like any other until At noon a heatwave swept over the world.
The temperature spiked to an unbearable 90 degrees Celsius.
People ran in terror, their bodies breaking out in burns and rashes as searing heat burned through their clothes.
Dr. Mei Lin Rushed out of the hospital to find her sister, Lan Lin who had been waiting for her near the apartment.
The streets were filled with people screaming for help.
Cars stopped running around as the road had melted somewhat.
Dr. Mei Lin pushed through the frantic crowd, her heart pounding as she called for her only family, her sister.
After what felt like hours she found Lan huddled under a shaded area.
Lan's face was flushed her lips were dry but she was alive.
Dr. Mei Lin's breathed in relief after seeing her sister.
She grabbed her sister's hand and led her to their apartment.
She was hoping that thick walls and stored water would protect them from this nightmare.
They blocked the windows wrapping themselves in soaked cloths to keep cool.
Dr. Mei Lin watched in horror as a news station that still worked showed people collapsing outside.
The government had said nothing. She knew that help would not arrive.
For hours they sat in silence, Lan's shallow breaths filling the air.
Dr. Mei Lin fought the growing sense of hopelessness.
She began to cry as she thought that she would lose her only family left in this world at this rate.
Lan's condition was already weak, to begin with, and now this. She was completely devastated.
Suddenly the power went out. The apartment was plunged into darkness.
the heat became suffocating. She had no idea what to do next.
With no electricity, no government help, and this heat.
Her only thought was on how long they could survive in this situation.
Dr. Mei Lin had lost all hope as tears kept coming again and again.
In the pitch-black apartment, with only the sound of her sister's labored breathing.
Mei Lin nearly jumped as her phone suddenly lit up.
The bright glowing screen pierced the darkness. it vibrated on the floor.
She looked at her phone but was confused to see the screen showed an unknown number.
For a split second, she hesitated. Who could be calling in the middle of this chaos?
She was filled with hope as she thought that this call was help from the government.
With trembling hands, she answered the call pressing the phone to her ear.
"Hello?" her voice was cracked with desperation.
On the other end, there was a brief pause before a calm and steady voice spoke."Dr.Mei Lin?"
Her heart sank. it was him. The man who had contacted her before.
He had called her before this madness. He offered her a job in some underground stronghold.
But she had rejected him then. She didn't believe that world was gonna end but reality hit her hard.
"Remember me?" the voice continued. "I reached out a few weeks ago about an offer to work with us"
After another brief pause, he said "We contented you for medical purposes but you declined."
Mei Lin's mouth went dry. She had turned him down.
But now with Lin barely clinging to consciousness in the boiling apartment. her previous denial was a joke.
"Why are you calling me now?" she managed to whisper dread creeping into her voice.
"Did you know that this will happen?"
"No" the man replied. "We didn't know that this would happen but I think we were lucky to survive the heatwave"
"Now I am again offering you a second chance. the offer stands, Doctor." His words brought hope in Mei Lin's eyes.
The man said again"But, now we can just ensure you that you can survive in this apocalypse. we will provide the food and water but you have to obey our command absolutely"
Her mind raced. Outside, people were collapsing on the streets. The tap had run dry from noon and emergency services were unavailable.
Mei Lin glanced at Lan, whose lips were cracked and bleeding. her skin flushed with heat.
"Why me?" she asked with her hoarse voice.
"Because I need skilled people. And you are valuable. Now the main part... you have to make a decision. Either stay there or come to the location that I will give you after accepting my offer"
"Wait...!!!" she cried out into the phone. her voice breaking.
"Can I..... can I bring my sister with me? Please.... you have to let me bring her. I can't leave her behind. i can't let her die here"
The silence on the other end stretched for what felt like an eternity. Mei's hands trembled as she clutched the phone.
Tears of frustration and fear welled up in her eyes.
"Please let her come with me...ill do anything"
The man finally spoke, his voice still calm bit with a hint of something that almost sounded like sympathy.
"Your sister can come. But remember, Doctor, you will have to work more to earn her food and water"
Mei Lin let out a shaky breath, tears of relief streaming down her face.
"Thank you.....Thank you"
The call ended with a quiet click, leaving her in the darkened room, holding her phone to her chest.
Then a message popped up.
Looking at the message it was the location that the man had just given and there was another note saying.
'Dont tell anyone, Dont bring anyone other than your sister'
Without another thought, Mei Lin scrambled to pack what little they had left.
