Chereads / Reincarnated As The Billionaire Heiress / Chapter 15 - Looking For Proof

Chapter 15 - Looking For Proof

"A police station? Really? A police station?" I repeated as I turned to stare at the building looming before us through the taxi window. Its brick facade was now weathered, the once bright lettering on the sign above the station now dulled with age.

"Let's go." Grayson said turning to get out of the car but I yanked him back.

"Are you kidding me?" I asked but the look on his face assured me he was anything but. A scoff escaped my lips as I crossed my arms underneath my chest, "Out of all the places you could bring me, you chose a fucking police station? One at the wrong side of town at that." I said eyeing the building outside.

Grayson rolled his eyes at me, "It's the only way you won't get swarmed by reporters." He replied and for a fleeting moment, I was surprised by his act of kindness. "Besides_" He turned to look at me, "It's the only way to get proof that what you are saying is the truth."

"Exactly, proof!" I yelled at him, "We want proof, not a fucking death sentence!" I snapped while looking out the window.

Grayson's gaze flicked to mine, his gaze as cold as ice. "Get out of the car right now!"

I opened my mouth to protest but Grayson was already opening the door. I swallowed back whatever words it was I wanted to say. He wasn't entirely wrong, besides if this was the only way to convince him then its best to just get it over with!

With a growl, I pushed open the car door, the cold air hitting me like a slap to the face. It didn't help the only thing I was putting on was a pair of gym shorts and Grayson's black sweater that annoyingly smells like him.

"So, what now?" I asked but Grayson didn't answer, he was already stepping inside the building.

Mentally cursing him, I followed after him. Inside the fluorescent light loomed overhead, casting a harsh glow on the peeling paint and scuffed linoleum floors. An officer stood up immediately he saw us, a smile appeared on his face as he approached us.

"Well look who decided to grace us with his presence today?" The officer asked before he threw his arm around Grayson who hugged him back.

Good, they were friends! Perhaps this wouldn't be so bad after all! I thought to myself smiling softly when the officer's gaze fell to me.

"Mrs Carter?" The officer asked, his tone filled with uncertainty as he assessed me with his gaze.

Grayson stepped forward, "Actually Dustin, I need a favor from you."

"Anything." Dustin said, his expression shifting into one of curiosity as he glanced at me.

"I want you to test her finger prints for verification!"

Both Dustin and I had a 'what the fuck?' expression on our faces as we stared at Grayson who had a serious expression on his face.

"Wait, you are serious?" Dustin asked his voice colored with disbelief.

I could have asked him the same damn thing! "Really? That's your genius plan to find proof?"

"Okay, now I'm lost." Dustin said shooting both of us with look.

Grayson heaved out an exasperated sigh as he turned to look at me, "Can you be quiet?" He hissed at me before he turned to look Dustin, "Please man, I need you to do this for me?"

Dustin gave Grayson a wary look before he shot me a look and I smiled at him while waving at him, but I think that only made the whole thing weirder. Shaking his head, Dustin went to his desk, rummaging through the clutter to bring out the necessary equipment.

"You are asking me for something weird man, but sure let's do it!" He said reaching for the scanner which he placed on the table before looking at me, "Please, place your thumb on it."

Glaring at the back of Grayson's head, I moved past him, making sure to shove his shoulders with mine as I did so. Heading towards Dustin, I stretched out my hand towards me. Dustin grabbed my hand with an apologetic smile, then he pressed my fingers to the scanner while looking at the computer on his desk.

"Alright, you can come check." Dustin told him.

Grayson moved forward, going round the table to look at the computer screen. I watched his expression closely, watching the way his black brows knitted together, a subtle crease forming between them. He looked up from the screen, then stared at me, then back at the screen again.

His frown deepened as he leaned closer to the screen. My stomach churned at the way his silence stretched and I felt my nails dig into my palm as I clenched my hand into a fist while trying hard to ignore the thundering of my own heart in my ears.

"Do it again!" Grayson ordered.

I leaned forward, trying to look at the computer but I couldn't see anything. Dustin grabbed my hand and did just as Grayson requested He tested few more times just as Grayson requested and at this point I was starting to get tired, not just me too.

"Not exactly sure what we are supposed to be looking at here." Dustin said with a nervous chuckle as he stared at Grayson who was still staring at the screen.

"Well?" I asked unable to take it anymore.

Grayson glanced at me, narrowing his eyes as he spoke. "It says you are Andrea Miller!"

"Yeah, no shit!" Dustin snorted causing Grayson and I to shoot him a look.

Muttering an apology under his breath, Dustin moved away from us. I turned to glare at Grayson, now that it was just the two of us. "Well, are you satisfied now?"

"Not quite!" Grayson replied me.

I scoffed at him, "The scanner just proved what I am, what else do you want? Blood sample? Urine test? A freaking DNA test?"

Grayson stared at me with a blank look on his face. "Perhaps."

"Perhaps? Perhaps?" I asked him with an incredulous look on my face, "You know what? Forget this I'm out of here!" I announced turning on my heels, I headed straight for the exit.

"And where do you think you are going? You can't leave!"

That tone, the annoying tone in which he used to speak such words to me. It was commanding, like he was giving me an order. I paused, my hand hovering just above the handle. Slowly, I turned back to look at Grayson who stood with his hands shoved inside his pockets and all I could think at that moment was that I was so sick of it.

I was so fucking sick of it! I thought to myself and before I knew it my feet were carrying me towards where he was. And before anyone could comprehend what I was doing, my hands curled into a fist and it was flying straight into Grayson's face, hitting him right in the jaw.

His jaw turned to the side at the impact but I think I hurt my wrist. The look on his face though, it was worth it!"

"You are an arsehole!" I spat in his face and without any other word, I left the police station.

My wrist was throbbing with the effect of hitting Grayson in his chiseled face but like I said, it was worth it! The only problem I had now, was what to do now that Grayson knows the truth and if I was Andrea, then what the hell happened to me, the real me?
