Chapter 115 - Chapter 116: Goofy Snake

The streets of Konoha buzzed with the excitement of the Chuunin Exams, but beneath the surface of the festivities lay a sinister intent. Orochimaru, disguised as a nondescript civilian, watched Sasuke Uchiha from a distance, his serpentine smile barely concealed under the facade of normalcy. The young avenger moved through the crowd, oblivious to the danger stalking him.

Orochimaru's eyes glinted with anticipation as he waited for the perfect moment to strike. He could feel the weight of Sasuke's cursed lineage, the potential wrapped in that darkness, and he was determined to claim it for himself.

Sasuke felt an unsettling sensation creeping up his spine, a nagging feeling that he was being watched. He scanned the crowd, searching for the source of his unease, but found nothing. Just villagers and fellow ninjas, all too caught up in the excitement of the day to notice the threat lurking in the shadows.

"Where are you?" Sasuke muttered under his breath, his Sharingan activating as he began to hone in on any unusual chakra signatures. But just as he was about to act, a sudden movement caught his attention—a figure darting toward him from the corner of his eye.

Before he could react, the disguised civilian leaped at him, hands outstretched to place a curse mark upon him. Sasuke instinctively stepped back, preparing to defend himself, but the attack never reached him.

With a flash of gray and a crackling sound, Kakashi Hatake appeared in an instant, his Chidori crackling in his hand. He struck the disguised Orochimaru with a precise blow, sending him crashing to the ground. The illusion of normalcy shattered as Orochimaru's true identity was revealed, his eyes narrowing in annoyance.

"Damn it!" Orochimaru hissed, frustration evident as he pushed himself back to his feet. "You always interfere, Kakashi!"

"Your games end here, Orochimaru," Kakashi replied coolly, his Sharingan spinning with determination. "You won't lay a finger on him."

With a quick movement, Orochimaru vanished into a puff of smoke, retreating into the shadows as he cursed his bad luck. The crowd remained oblivious to the danger that had just unfolded, their laughter and excitement carrying on as if nothing had happened.

Kakashi turned to Sasuke, who still stood frozen in shock, the weight of the encounter settling over him like a thick fog. "Sasuke," Kakashi began, his tone serious, "you're being targeted. The Hokage has asked me to protect you."

Sasuke's expression hardened, the reality of his situation sinking in. "Why? What does he want from me?"

"It's not just you," Kakashi explained, his voice low. "Orochimaru is interested in your potential—the Sharingan and the power it holds. He won't stop until he gets what he wants."

Sasuke clenched his fists, anger boiling beneath the surface. "I won't let him take anything from me. I'll become stronger."

Kakashi nodded, impressed by Sasuke's determination. "That's the spirit. But you must be cautious. Stay close to me, and we'll figure out how to handle this."

As they moved away from the scene, the lingering sense of danger hung in the air, but Sasuke felt a renewed sense of purpose. He would not be a victim. He would take control of his destiny.
