Back in Konoha, the atmosphere was heavy as Kakashi reported to Hiruzen Sarutobi about the recent mission to the Land of Waves. The old Hokage listened intently, his brows furrowed in concern as Kakashi recounted the brutal encounter with Haku and Gato.
"Hyuk displayed an incredible amount of power," Kakashi explained, "but his methods have raised concerns. The way he handled Haku and Gato was… extreme."
Hiruzen sighed, rubbing his temples. "I'm aware of Hyuk's potential, but this darkness is troubling. It's essential that he understands the weight of his actions."
Kakashi nodded. "I think he needs guidance, especially after witnessing how brutal he can be. We can't let this become a part of him."
"Invite him in," Hiruzen instructed, his voice steady. "I want to speak with him directly."
A few moments later, Hyuk entered the room, his expression a mix of uncertainty and defiance. The air was thick with tension, and he sensed the seriousness of the conversation ahead.
"Hyuk," Hiruzen began, his tone gentle yet firm, "I wanted to talk to you about the mission and your actions during it."
"I know I went too far," Hyuk interjected, crossing his arms defensively. "But it was necessary. Haku attacked me, and Gato was a coward."
"Your strength is undeniable, but there's a fine line between justice and brutality," Hiruzen replied. "What you did to Haku and Gato may have been effective, but it also has consequences. People will remember that you were capable of such violence."
Hyuk clenched his fists, frustration bubbling within him. "I did what I had to do! They were threats!"
"I understand that," Hiruzen said calmly. "But it's vital to consider how your actions reflect on you and on Konoha. You must find a balance, Hyuk. Otherwise, this darkness will consume you."
Hyuk remained silent, absorbing the Hokage's words. Deep down, he knew there was truth in them.
"Take this time to reflect," Hiruzen continued. "Your power is a gift, but it comes with responsibility. I want you to think about what kind of ninja you want to be."
After their conversation, Hiruzen dismissed Hyuk but insisted he take some time to gather his thoughts. Hyuk stepped out of the Hokage Tower, his mind racing.
He needed to talk to Reina.
Finding her near the training grounds, Hyuk approached cautiously. Reina was sitting on a bench, staring off into the distance, her expression pensive. She looked up as he approached, her eyes reflecting a mix of emotions.
"Hey," he said softly, taking a seat next to her. "I need to talk."
"About what?" she asked, her tone guarded.
"I just had a conversation with the Hokage. He's worried about me—about what happened in the mission."
Reina raised an eyebrow. "You mean with Haku and Gato?"
"Yeah," he replied, running a hand through his hair. "I don't want to be that person who loses control, but I felt like I had to act to protect myself and the team."
She nodded slowly, a frown creasing her brow. "But the way you did it… it was intense. You didn't just defeat them; you killed them. And it didn't seem to bother you."
Hyuk looked away, guilt washing over him. "It's complicated. I didn't want to think about it in the moment. I just acted."
Reina's gaze softened as she studied him. "What does this mean for us? You're changing, Hyuk."
He sighed deeply. "I know. I realized something during the mission. I have this desire for older women, and it was complicated by what happened with Tsunami. I didn't mean for it to happen, actually no, I wanted it to happen."
Reina's expression shifted, hurt flashing across her face. "So, it's about age? You think that's why you slept with her?"
"It's more than that," he said, desperation creeping into his voice. "It's about exploring something I didn't even realize was there. But it doesn't mean I care about you any less. I just don't know how to sort this out."
Her eyes glistened with unshed tears. "You could have told me. I would have understood. But now it feels like you're choosing someone else over me."
Hyuk reached out, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I'm not choosing anyone over you. I care about you, Reina. But I need time to figure out who I am and what I want."
Reina looked down, biting her lip as she processed his words. "Just know that it hurts, Hyuk. I want to support you, but I also need to take care of myself."
"I understand," he replied, his voice gentle. "I don't want to lose you. Just give me some time."
She nodded, still looking conflicted. "I will. But don't take too long. I can't wait forever."
As Hyuk watched her walk away, he felt a mix of sadness and determination. He had to confront the darkness within him while holding onto the light that Reina brought into his life. It was a balancing act he wasn't sure he could manage, but he knew he had to try.
