Chapter 26 - The Crystalized General

"What do we do?!"

Anna Becker never expected this to happen in such a special day. She had held off two monsters with the help of Nicola. Arthur, Mary, and Prince stood up again. Their injuries seemingly disappeared a minute ago.

"I can fight again...?" Arthur examined his body, "Wasn't my arm broken?"

"Not the time Arthur!" Mary readied herself with phoenix magic, "We gotta help them!"

"I got nothing to use!" Arthur said, "Prince also has no weapons!"

Most of the students participating grouped up to form a barrier in Grinshar's area. They had pushed broken walls together to protect themselves. Creatures slowly increased in number and attempted to break down their protection.

Nicola observed the area, trying to discern where they came from, only then did she spot Carmilo helping Yuri walk towards them, "Carmilo! Yuri!" She jumped down from the archway and ran to them.

"Nicola. There you are." Yuri was put by a wall by Carmilo, letting her adjust to the wounds disappearing, "What is happening?"

"No clue! All I know is that monsters emerged everywhere in the school grounds and arena. Around a hundred seventy students are bundled up here with no contact from teachers or anything."

"Wait...that means Enzo and Zhu is with the other group! Where are they?!" Carmilo looked around, "What about Eio-?!"

"Eio is fine! I saw the headmaster escort her out!" Yuri calmed Carmilo down. Aziroth will be happy to hear this.

"And for the others, By the Haelfein area!" Nicola answered, "There's where the other students are!"

"We gotta reach them!" Carmilo panicked, "They'll get overrun!"

"But we can't harm them!" Arthur said, "Many of our weapons are scattered around the arena. There's only a few with weapons here."

"And that's where I come in!" Out of nowhere, A brown-haired girl appeared into the view. The blood-soaked clothing had garnered some attention as she ran around, She grabbed her pouch and dumped all of its contents to the ground.

To everyone's surprise, hundreds of weapons were put forth in front of them. Ranging from daggers to swords, to axes, to hammers. Everything one can imagine. It organized itself into sections so people could choose what ever they wanted.

"Go! Take it!"

Like a hivemind, the students ran forward to take their weapons of choice. Even Arthur, and Prince. Mary turned to the girl with a question in mind, "Thank you so much, but who are you?"

"I'll explain soon!" The girl climbed up to an archway. Standing tall above everyone else and tapped her throat, muttering a spell to enhance her voice range, "Attention everyone!"

Most of the students had grabbed their weapons and turned to the girl. The monsters kept on banging against their barriers, but it's holding up for now, "I'm Aurora Black! But that's not what matters right now! The Haelfein class is to our right! And is probably going to die if nothing is done quickly! Noone here knows these monsters more than me! I guarantee you that!"

"I don't believe it!" A boy shouted.

"Doesn't matter! The important thing is that I'll lead you through this! The weapons I have you are efficient killers against the monsters! So use that to your advantage! I need you all to separate into two groups and stay on each side of the barrier! The right side will charge forwards and go through the horde together! The left will follow after, their objective is to make sure we aren't overrun! Understand!"

"Why should we go out there?! We can wait here and stay safe!" Someone shouted.

"If any of you agree with him, I'm personally throwing you out of this safe spot! And let you die!" Yuri shouted.

"I support her!" Aurora said, "The monsters are coming from the slash made by whatever is in the middle! So we all group up in Haelfein! Understand?! Here, a motivator!"

Aurora performed a few hand signs and chanted something, forming a black and white ball in her hands that separated into thousands of particles. As it fell onto the students, they felt a sudden surge of energy and power, "Feel better?! Good! Now separate!"

They followed her orders as she said. Separating into two groups on the left and right. As Aurora stepped down the archway, she was approached by six different people. She noticed them as those who teamed up on Gary. Plus another Spanish boy.

"Yes...?"

"Just...thank you." Carmilo bowed, "For giving us weapons and all. My friends are in Haelfein and I worry for their safety."

"It's no problem mate." Aurora waved him off.

"But who are you? We've never seen you before." Mary said, "And what happened to your clothes?"

"Ah, Just the blood of the monsters." Aurora winked, "And think of me as a transfer student. Anyways, Get ready everyone!"

Aurora moved past the seven who looked at each other in confusion, she's an odd one alright. Aurora hoped that was convincing enough. She's a horrible liar, she should leave that to Donovan. Moving past the group, she jumped ontop of the archway and made sure everyone was ready.

"Alright! Take down the barrier at my count!" Everyone braced under her command, "Three!"

The monsters on the left slowly break through the barrier, "Two!"

Arthur and Mary stood behind the left side to provide backup, "One!"

Yuri and Carmilo readied themselves for the charge, "NOW!"

***

"KRAAAGH!"

Donovan, Gary, and Samuel jumped away from where they stood, just as the monsters swung his appendages down.

SHICK

BOOM

The same deafening blast deafened the three nearby, and a near-invisible white slash blitzed through the middle of the arena and cut the ground into two. Gary landed on the ground first and charged the monster first, slamming his Warhammer onto its flesh.

The monster ended up stopping his attack with only his hand, shocking Gary, "Oh you little-AGH!" The monster had slammed his second hand directly at Gary's chest, he can feel his ribs breaking from the force.

His body was sent flying backwards immediately, "Gary!" Samuel ran towards his friend as he coughed out blood in return, "Your lung is punctured Gary..."

"Faen...Caught me off guard..." Gary took a second to compose himself.

"I think..." Samuel observed Gary's lung, "I can perform quick surgery. Right here, right now."

"Then do it." Gary laid flat on the ground, ripping of his tanktop entirely, "I can do it without any drugs."

Samuel took a deep breath before taking out a scalpel from his pouch. Ready to perform surgery with a few healing potions. Meanwhile, the monster charged towards Donovan. Sending out a wild punch in his direction.

Taking it seriously this time, he enhanced his body with magic to the fullest and quickly chanted a spell on his body. Reinforcing it with magic armor. Just in time as Donovan blocked the monster's attack with both arms.

Even though his body was unharmed mostly, he could feel the power of the strike, and it stung Donovan, "You punch...hard-!"

Donovan pushed his arm away and attempted to slam his shin directly at the monster's head, but it barely budged from his strike, "Oh."

BOOM

"ACK-!"

The monster punches Donovan away, sending him crashing to the ground, but it doesn't stop there. It charged forward and raised its foot up. Donovan rolled out of the way just as it slammed it down.

Donovan stood up quickly and sent out a jab to a cross directly towards its chest. Putting in more force than usual, he managed to push it back slightly, but still no damage. The monster retaliated with a hand swipe, Donovan took a step back, only to meet a foot flying towards him.

He narrowly dodged to the side, "Alright Crystal." Donovan gives it a nickname, "You...Oh damn-!"

Crystal suddenly spun around with a spinning back kick which Donovan ducked down just in time. Donovan followed through with a strong cross, Slamming it into its stomach. At first, there was no damage visible, but that was the plan.

Magic surged into his arm as he chanted a spell with his silver tongue, "Burn the sinners!" An overwhelming force slammed against Crystal. Pushing him back as black and white flames burned the body.

Crystal ignored the flames entirely and sent multiple punches towards Donovan. And he retaliated with his own. They began engaging each other into a fast-paced fight.

Crystal attacked with his fists and leg, and Donovan did the same. They both blocked each others kicks and punches. Donovan retaliated with using magic in his strikes and occasionally shooting out magic orbs, blasts, and spells.

Donovan had two advantages here against Crystal. First, his magic path. Aptly named 'Path of the blessed chosen' by Hanlerk. It was unknown to the world and never documented. Its raw power, versatility, and strength go unrivaled through the thousands of different paths. And the second, Donovan's talent.

Hanlerk mentioned it himself, but Donovan was the most compatible with the path. And was a prodigy in utilising it and magic in itself. Donovan demonstrated his talent with three consecutive kicks in the air, with each kick, he chanted three unique spells to accompany it.

The first was a fire spell, the second was a thunder spell, and the third was a binding spell. The last spell formed multiple strings that wrapped around Crystal's body. Binding him to the ground.

Donovan held out his hands. Chanting three spells at once; Three different magic spells burst out from his palm. One was a concentrated spell blast, a second was a burning black and white flame that twirled around the first spell. And the third was a power enhancer to further amplify its power.

It struck Crystal with a deafening BOOM. Causing the ground to rumble from the sheer force. Taking this short break, he looked at the slashes Crystal had performed twice before. The first one had cleared straight through the arena and split the top part of the mountain apart around seven kilometers away. Jesus, that's fast for a magic attack. It wasn't even for a second, it was probably half-a second or even less. But good lord, that's terrifying to think about.

As he turned around, multiple appendages reached out toward him, slicing his chest in multiple areas. Donovan involuntarily summoned a barrier spell. It slammed into the ground from above, separating Donovan from the appendages.

"Agh...What in god's gracious?!" Blood seeped out of his shirt and onto the ground. He ripped it apart to observe the damage. It's deep, but not too much. It stings like hell though.

Crystal broke through the binding and roared yet again, causing everyone in the arena to cover their ears in response, "Loud asshole..." Donovan muttered.

The behemoth charged towards Donovan, crashing through the barrier in an instant and raising its hand, ready to crush Donovan in his place.

Before it could, Gary appeared out of nowhere and blocked the full force of the slam. Ending up destroying the ground below Gary as he sunk a couple of feet down, "Gary!"

"I gotchu!" Runes circled Gary's arm as he pulled it back. He slammed it against Crystal's chest, the power of his normal punch was amplified heavily. It was strong enough to push Crystal back.

But it kept on going, trying to grab Gary, "End's cleave!"

A giant, visible black-and-white slash erupted with a deafening boom as it cut Crystal across the upper body. This time, it sent Crystal tumbling back. Samuel appeared next to Donovan and helped him up, "Jesus Christ...No damage?"

"No..." Donovan confirmed, "I did a lot to him. And he doesn't even seem fazed at the slightest."

The three stared at Crystal again, watching it stand back up and readjust his body. Donovan and Samuel observed the crystals pumping on the back of the monster. Then, it hit them, "I have a plan..."
