Stepping out of the room, Null and Selene moved down a quiet corridor towards the elevator. Null still lost in his thoughts, "It took me 7 days and I am still not sure what happened to me in that time, my body looks exactly the same as when I was at the beginning..hmm it's hard to say, I guess."
As they reached the building's main floor and the elevator door slid open, Null saw people rushing, there were quite a lot of people injured, some in crisp uniforms, others in tatters, few with blood stains. A few carried in stretchers and everyone faces marked with exhaustion and pain.
The nervousness in their faces was enough to make Null realize what happened to them, but he still whispered to himself, "What happened to them?".
Selene tilted her head a little looking at Null she replied," When you were undergoing the awakening process an unexpected event occurred. A gate appeared in the upper world." Her gaze returned at the injured people and voice filled with helplessness She continued, "Many people died due to this horror event, the secret we were holding up to this decades are fading away. People of the upper world happen to be aware of creatures and us."
The entire floor filled with the smell of blood, Null and Selene stepped out of the building. Null turns himself back and again looks at the injured people, he doesn't care about the people who died or whoever is injured. But the one thing that made Null's mind get cozy was their faces which were infused with helplessness. Null could sense this feeling of being helpless and he didn't want to experience it again. Null turned back himself and started walking, his face filled with commitment that he wanted to become strong.
Null slowly walked, the first thing that came to his mind was what to do next, so he asked Selene," Where are we going?". Selene replies, "Of course, to register you as an awakened".
As they made their way through the bustling grounds, Null's gaze drifted around the scene, absorbing the details of this new world he barely understood. The people around him moved with purpose, a relentless energy that seemed fueled by something beyond just duty. He wondered about their lives, their missions, and what drove them. For him, this was still a strange world—one where he was both a stranger and an anomaly.
He hesitated, glancing sideways at Selene, who walked with the poise and calm of someone completely at home in the chaos. "Selene," he began, his voice quiet as they navigated through the crowd, "is it possible… for you not to mention my awakening to anyone else?"
Selene stopped in her tracks, tilting her head to look at him, an eyebrow raised in curiosity. "And why is that?" she asked, her gaze piercing yet somehow gentle.
Null shifted uncomfortably, searching for the right words. "I just… I don't want to draw attention. I'm not trying to become a hero here, or to stand out. I don't have any grand plans to save anyone." His voice grew firmer, and he looked away, the faintest hint of vulnerability in his expression.
Selene's lips curled into a knowing smile. With a light chuckle, she nodded as if she'd expected exactly this answer. "I had a feeling you'd say something like that." Her tone softened. "You don't need to worry. I won't say a word, and neither will Iris. I've already spoken to her about it."
Null seemed a little relaxed, Selene asked him with curiosity, "Did you see your status bar?" Null's face filled with confusion he asked selene,"Status bar?".
"I think I haven't told you, the status bar serves as a personalized, dynamic interface that reflects an awakener progression, abilities, and traits. Think of it as a constantly evolving summary of the character's growth and capabilities, visible to them at key moments or through specific devices."
Selene continued, "You need to call ARC and your status bar will be opened, it was a natural power after an individual being awakened. We still don't know how and who did it. It's like someone is seeking us to be powerful. Maybe it's God, Who knows."
Null didn't fully understand and he couldn't hold it longer so, he did as what Selene said, he whispered in a small voice, "ARC".
