Chapter 22 - Nowhere To Run To

5 year later

Sebastian and Noah are close to the beach

Noah: So Kim finally left

Sebastian: She realized there will never be a future for us. She cursed me. I will have no one to call mine, if  I fall in love again I will never find happiness she said. Do you think that's what is happening the curse

Noah: She was just bitter, who wouldn't? But it's good you too didn't work out, it was going to be hell ( He laughed )

Sebastian's phone rings in his pocket, Wilson displays on the caller ID

Wilson: Sir we got a lead. There is a new company open last 3 years in France, America. The headquarters is in Germany. Under the name of Miller Winery ( his voice came in from the other side sharp )

Sebastian's eyes snapped open, his breath quickening as he snatched his phone from his pocket. He read the text with a mixture of excitement and fury, his fingers curling into a fist.

Sebastian: Miller Winery ( he growled, his gaze turning to Noah ). It's her. It's Sofia.

Noah's expression darkened, his brows knitting together.

Noah: Are you sure? ( he asked, his voice low and cautious ).

Sebastian nodded, his eyes gleaming with a cold intensity.

Sebastian: Looking into it and send a business proposal

Wilson: We have done that sir but it got rejected over and over again

Sebastian's expression hardened, his lip curling into a snarl.

Sebastian: Then we'll have to find another way, ( he hissed, his mind racing with possibilities ). Look into her employees, her suppliers, and anyone who could give us leverage.

Wilson, a man with a sharp suit and sharper eyes, nodded, his face a mask of concentration.

Wilson: We're already on it, sir ( he said, tapping away at his phone ). We'll find a way in.

Weeks passed, the clock ticking down as Sebastian and his team worked tirelessly to uncover Sofia's weaknesses. They followed her employees, hacked into her accounts, and bribed anyone who might have access to her inner circle.

And then, one night, a breakthrough. A package arrived at Sebastian's office, sealed with the Miller Winery logo. Inside, he found a detailed map of Sofia's security system, along with a handwritten note: "We have a man on the inside".

Sebastian smiled, a predatory gleam in his eye.

Sebastian said, his voice low and decisive.

Sebastian: You can't run away from me sofia. We're going to Germany ( she called and said to Wilson )

Sofia watched her daughters play, her exhaustion palpable as she sank deeper into the couch. She had been working long hours, travelling constantly, and doing everything in her power to keep Miller Winery at the forefront of the industry.

While two little girls running around the house shouting

Sofia looked tired as she lay on the sofa close

Faye: Give me back my toy ( she screamed chasing  after her sister )

Myra: It's mine stay away

Faye and Myra raced through the house, their scream and squeals filling the air as they chased each other around the living room. Sofia watched them with a fond smile, her fatigue melting away as she saw the joy in their eyes.

Sofia: Girls ( she called out, her voice gentle but firm ). Please be careful. I don't want anyone to get hurt.

Faye and Myra paused, their giggles fading as they looked at their mother with wide, innocent eyes.

Marco walks in with a flower in his hand

Faye: Uncle Marco

She ran and hugged him as he picked her up from the fall. Marco swept Faye into his arms, his grin lighting up his face as he gazed down at the little girl.

Marco: Hello, my little princess, ( he said, his voice a deep, warm baritone ). What have you been up to today?

Faye giggled, her cheeks pink with delight.

Faye: Playing with Myra ( she said, her voice a breathless babble )She took my toy and I tried to get it back.

Marco laughed, the sound rumbling through his chest.

Marco: Sounds like quite the adventure

Myra stands not far away with a little hand crossed on her chest

Myra: It's my toy she broke her and wants to claim mine

Marco chuckled, his eyes twinkling as he looked from Faye to Myra.

Marco: Now, now, ladies, ( he said, his tone teasing ). Sharing is important, remember? And I'm sure Faye didn't mean to break the toy.

Myra pouted, her lower lip jutting out in defiance.

Myra: But it's mine, ( she insisted, her small voice stubborn and defiant ). And she always breaks my things.

Marco sighed a fond smile on his lips. He could see the familiar glint in Myra's eyes, the same fiery spirit that had defined her from the moment she was born.

Marco: Alright ( he said, setting Faye down and scooping Myra into his arms ). How about we go and find a way to fix the toy?

Myra's expression softened, her features relaxing as she realized that Marco was on her side.

Myra: Okay, ( she said, her voice small but hopeful ).

Faye looked at the flower in  Macro's hand and ask

Faye: Are you going to marry my mom?

Sofia sat where she saw can't help but feel embarrassed

Marco's eyes widened, his cheeks colouring as he shifted his gaze from the flower to Faye.

Marco: Oh, um, well, ( he stammered, his voice catching in his throat ). That's a…that's a very interesting question.

Faye stared at him expectantly, her eyes wide and curious.

Faye: Are you? ( she pressed, her voice a persistent murmur ). Are you going to marry my mom?

Marco's heart raced, his mind a tangled mess of emotions.

Marco: And where did you learn about marriage

Faye: I'm four years old not stupid ( she said in a childish voice )

Marco's lips twitched, his heart melting at Faye's precociousness.

Marco: Of course you're not stupid, ( he said, smoothing her hair with a gentle hand was just curious how you knew about marriage.

Faye shrugged, her shoulders lifting in a nonchalant gesture.

Myra: Mom told us that people in love get married. And is it true babies are made from poop, Cara said her mom went to the toilet and then pooped her baby brother

Marco's eyes widened, a chuckle escaping his lips as he tried to contain his amusement.

Marco: Cara is not exactly an expert on these matters, ( he said, shaking his head ). Babies are not made from poop. That is…certainly not where they come from.

Myra's expression was one of scepticism, her head tilting to the side.

Myra: Then where do they come from? ( she asked, her voice laced with suspicion ).

Marco smiled, his gaze turning towards where Sofia was still sitting on the sofa.

Mrs Gabby walk in just then to save the both of them. Mrs Gabby's steps were light and quick, her eyes twinkling with laughter as she saw the scene before her.

Mrs Gabby: Hello, children, ( she said, her voice soft and melodious ). I see you have some very important questions.

Faye and Myra turned to their grandmother, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and wonder.

Faye: Grandma, ( her voice a breathless whisper ). Can you tell us where babies come from?

Mrs Gabby laughed, her eyes dancing with mischief.

Mrs Gabby: Oh, my little darlings,( she said, a smile curling her lips ). Babies come from love and a very special place inside a woman's tummy.

Faye's eyes widened, her mouth forming a small 'O' of surprise.

Faye: Inside a tummy? ( she repeated, her voice a mixture of confusion and amazement ).

Myra: Then how did they come out

Mrs Gabby: You can say they poop then out

Myra turned her head to Marco

Myra: Unlce Marco doesn't know anything. So Cara was right ( she said, her tone firm ).

Marco's let out a little laugh, his eyebrows arched in disbelief.

Marco: Well, thank you, Myra ( he said, his voice tinged with irony ). I appreciate your vote of confidence.

Faye giggled, her hands clapping together with delight.

Faye: Uncle Marco is funny ( she said, her small body shaking with laughter ).

Mrs Gabby smiled, a hint of warmth creeping into her expression.

As Mrs Gabby led the children out of the room, a comfortable silence descended over the space. Marco shifted on his feet, his gaze flickering towards Sofia on the couch.

Marco: They're wonderful kids ( he said, his voice soft and sincere ).

Sofia smiled, her eyes sparkling with maternal pride.

Sofia. They are, ( she said, her voice lilting with tenderness ). But while the little devil

Marco's heart fluttered, his thoughts racing as he considered how to broach the topic he

He walked over to sofia raised her pulled her into his hands and kissed her, sofia pulled away

Marco: Should we tell the kids about us

Sofia: I don't want to rush things with them

Marco nodded, a shadow of disappointment crossing his face.

Marco: You're right ( he said, his tone resigned ). We shouldn't rush things.

Sofia's shoulders relaxed, a sense of relief washing over her.

Sofia: Thank you for understanding, ( she said, her voice soft and grateful ). I just want to do what's best for them.

Marco reached out, taking her hand in his.

Marco held out the flower,  as he offered it to Sofia.

Marco: This is for you, ( he said, his voice low and steady ). I picked it up earlier, before I came over.

Sofia's eyes lingered on the flower, her hand moving to take it from Marco's. She brought it to her nose, inhaling the sweet scent of the petals.

Sofia: It's beautiful, ( she said, her voice a whisper of awe ). Thank you.

Sofia's fingers gently caressed the flower, her heart stirring with a feeling she'd long thought buried. Marco, sensing the shift in her mood, stepped closer, his eyes searching hers.

Marco: I've missed you ( he said, his words a whisper in the quiet room ) I've missed us.

Sofia's breath caught in her throat, her lips parting as she struggled to find the words.

Sofia: I've missed you too, ( she said, her voice fragile and uncertain ).

As the silence between them stretched, the air around them seemed to crackle with possibility. Sofia's gaze flicked to Marco's lips, her mind racing with memories of their past.

Marco leaned in, his breath warm against her skin.

Marco: Sofia, ( he whispered, his voice a husky murmur ). I want to make this work. I want to be with you.

Sofia closed her eyes, a wave of longing and fear washing over her.

Sofia: Why did you come

Marco: I miss you and wanted to see you and the kids

Sofia: it's getting late, you should get going

Marco: Are you pushing me away

Sofia: I'm not ( she lied ) I just don't want you to drive late at night, it's dangerous.

She said as she reached and placed a light kiss on his lips

Marco's breath caught as Sofia's lips brushed against his own, his heart racing in his chest.

Marco: I can stay, ( he said, his voice soft and pleading ). I'll sleep in one of the guestrooms, I promise.

Sofia's eyes searched his face, her mind racing with the possibilities.

Sofia: No (  she said, her tone firm but gentle). It's best if you go.

Marco hesitated, his eyes flickering with hurt. He left. She headed to the kitchen where she saw her mother and Mrs Antonia talking

Sofia: Where are the kids

Antonia: Sleeping already, they are quite the trouble

Sofia smiled, a trace of sadness lingering in her eyes.

Sofia: They certainly are ( she said, her voice wistful ). And what were you two talking about?

Mrs Antonia, a kind and grandmotherly woman, exchanged a glance with Gabby.

Mrs Gabby: Oh, just a bit of old woman gossip, ( she said, her voice lilting with humour). Nothing for you to worry about.

Sofia raised an eyebrow, a smile playing on her lips.

Sofia: I'm sure it was more than that.

Mrs Antonia: Sofia ( her tone gentle but insistent. ) We were talking about you and Marco.

Sofia's eyes widened, her heart lurching in her chest.

Sofia: You were? ( she asked, her voice barely above a whisper ).

Gabby nodded, her expression serious.

Mrs Gabby: Marco is a fine young and and from what we see, he does love you

Sofia: He wants to let the kids know about us, but I refused

Mrs Antoina: Why dear

Sofia: At first when he asked me to be his girlfriend despite knowing I have two kids, I was happy and thought with time I would learn to love him. I don't know if my feelings for Marco's mom are like I pushing myself

Gabby and Antonia exchanged a glance, their faces a mirror of concern.

Mrs Ganby: Sofia, ( her voice low and steady ). You can't force yourself to love someone. That's not how it works.

Sofia nodded, her shoulders slumping in defeat.

Sofia: I know, ( her voice heavy with sorrow ). I just don't want to hurt him. He's been so kind and patient with me.

Antonia placed a gentle hand on Sofia

Mrs Antonia: Sofia, (her voice soothing and reassuring ). You can't live your life for other people, especially if it means sacrificing your happiness. It's not fair to you, and it's not fair to Marco.

Sofia nodded, her eyes filling with tears.

Sofia: I know, but how do I tell him? How do I tell him that I don't love him the way he loves me?

Mrs Gabby: Sofia, you need to be honest with him. It's the only way you'll both be able to move on.

Sofia's eyes were fixed on the floor, her hands trembling as she contemplated the task before her. She knew that Gabby and Antonia were right, that honesty was the only path forward, but the thought of hurting Marco was more than she could bear.

Sofia: I'll talk to him, ( she said, her voice a whisper of resolve ). I just need the right time

Antonia nodded, a look of understanding in her eyes.

Mrs Antonia: And we'll be here for you, every step of the way.

The next day was Friday

The driver took Faye and Myra to school. Outside the school compound, a black car was in the park

Sebastian was inside

Sebastian: ( he looked at the file in hand and smiled ) Faye and Myra Miller

Sebastian sat in the car, his eyes scanning the file in his hands. He'd spent weeks researching the Miller family, piecing together their history, their habits, their daily routine. He was confident that his plan was foolproof, that nothing could stand in his way.

He watches as the two girls run around the car making the driver difficult to catch them. They were tired of running and entered the car themselves.  Sebastian laughed watching them his kids, his daughters. He felt a pride that he never felt. Sebastian shifted into gear, his foot pressing gently on the accelerator as he followed the girls from a safe distance. He was patient, and methodical, allowing them to get further and further from the school. He followed them as they stopped at a cake shop. Sofia saw her girl as she walked out and hugged them.

Myra/ Faye: Mommy

Sebastian heard them call Sofia.

Sebastian's heart pounded as he watched the scene unfold. He watched her, his eyes narrowing as he took in every detail of her appearance, she looked more beautiful and mature than before

Myra: Mommy ( the girls cried, their voices filled with joy ) I'm so happy to see you!

Sofia laughed, her face glowing with love.

Sofia: Me too ( she said, her voice tender and loving )

Faye: You promise to buy cake for us

Sofia: That's why I asked Uncle Dan ( the driver ) to bring you girls here

Just then a car pulled up close to them, it was Marco

Marco: Sofia! ( he called, his voice a mixture of joy and surprise ). Faye, Myra! What a wonderful coincidence!

Sofia turned, her eyes widening as she took in the sight of Marco standing beside his car.

Sofia: Marco ( she said, her voice filled with wonder ). What are you doing here?

Marco's smile broadened, his eyes shining with warmth.

Marco bent down, wrapping his arms around Faye in a gentle embrace.

He walked to her

Marco: This is Faye and Myra's favourite cake shop, so I wanted to get a cake for them before coming over to the house

Faye: That sweet of you Uncle Marco ( she hugs him )

Marco: Anything for my favourite little ladies

Sofia watched the scene with a mixture of emotions swirling in her chest. There was something so genuine about Marco, something that made her heart flutter despite her reservations.

Sofia: Well, I guess we're all in for a sweet treat today, ( she said, her voice soft and light ). Faye, Myra, why don't we all go inside together?

Myra furrowed her hand crossed on her chest

Sofia: What is Myra

Myra: Uncle Marco only likes Faye, he did not hug me

Faye: You are so childish

Myra: It's you that is childish

Sofia's lips twitched in amusement as she watched the exchange between her daughters.

Sofia: Now, now, girls ( she said, her voice light and teasing ). There's plenty of love to go around. I'm sure Marco would be more than happy to give you both a hug.

Myra looked up at her mother, her expression a mixture of hope and uncertainty.

Myra: Really? ( she asked, her voice small and hesitant ).

Marco smiled, his arms outstretched.

Marco: Of course, ( his voice warm and inviting ). Come here, Myra.

Myra's face lit up, her feet scampering towards him as she launched herself into his arms. Marco held her tightly, his heart overflowing with love and joy.

Sofia: There you go. Now everyone is happy, right?

Faye nodded, a smile curving her lips.

Faye: Very happy ( she said, her eyes shining with delight ).

They look like the perfect family. This scene angered Sebastian as he watched from his car
