Riley
The soft chime of my phone jolts me out of my thoughts. I glance at the screen, Lea's name lighting up. It's been days since I last spoke to her—or anyone, really. My world has shrunk to the size of this penthouse, my only company being the quiet hum of the city outside and my spiraling thoughts.
I hesitate for a moment before picking up. "Hello?"
"Riley!" Lea's voice is sharp, concerned. "Where the hell have you been? Are you okay?"
I let out a sigh, sinking into the couch. "I'm fine."
"Bullshit," she snaps. "You've gone completely radio silent. Damien's been looking for you. Even Michael called me asking if I'd heard from you. What's going on?"
Her words hit me like a slap. I hadn't realized how worried everyone was—or how much I'd pulled away. "I just needed some space," I say quietly.
"Riley, talk to me," she pleads, her voice softening. "You're scaring me."
