The woman took David, Ivane, and Giorgi down back alleys, further inwards into the heart of the town. The cobblestone streets grew narrower, and the few townspeople they passed were mostly older, faces weathered by years of hard work. The shadows stretched long while they followed her—the light was dimming, the day wearing.
David watched the woman intently, his mind full of questions. Lightly she stepped, yet with a sureness in the tread that spoke well for knowing just where she went. Scarcely a word had been said since they'd left the inn; this silence was starting to get to him. He cast a glance at Ivane, who seemed as taut as he did, though her gaze was steady, fixed on their enigmatic guide.
Several minutes more ticked by before Giorgi spoke up. "So, are we allowed to ask where we're headed? Or do we just keep playing this guessing game?"
