The people of Nemea really knew how to throw a party. They had decorated the town square with flowers and flags, and you could smell meat cooking everywhere. I was sitting at the main table, feeling awkward about all the attention, while trying to look like what I thought a hero should look like.
"Give us a speech!" someone yelled from the crowd. Soon everyone was shouting for me to speak. I stood up, fixed my new golden cloak, and tried to remember how heroes were supposed to act at these old Greek parties. All my book knowledge about these celebrations didn't help much when I was actually in one.
"People of Nemea," I started, then realized I was talking like a teacher again. I tried to make my voice sound more brave and hero-like. "Today isn't just about winning. It's about a fresh start. We've shown that even the strongest animals can be beaten with..." I almost said 'using science' but stopped myself just in time. "With being smart as well as strong!"
